Weapons Proficiency
From Chronicles
In an effort to eliminate confusion, staff will use this page to explain how we use various Rifts Weapon Proficiencies.
For Modern Weapon Proficiencies we use those bonuses listed on page 360 of RUE. We do not use those listed on page 328.
Contents |
W.P. Axe
The WP Axe grants a stated bonus to Strike and Parry at levels 2, 5, 8, etc. It also grants a additional choice of bonus to Strike when Thrown or Parry at level 5, 8 or 12.
W.P. Archery
When determining the number of attacks one has with the W.P. Archery skill, take the Rate of Fire (ROF) you gain from the skill and add any non-Hand to Hand style attacks. For example, those attacks gained from Boxing, O.C.C. or R.C.C. ability.
For example, a 5th level Juicer with Boxing would have a ROF of 5 + Boxing (+1) + Juicer (+2) = For a total ROF of 8.
This is only while using a weapon which is applicable to the W.P. Archery Skill.
There is an exception, in the cases of a rare RCC which is provide a flat number attacks and no other Hand to Hand. Take half the attacks add the skill attacks and archery attacks.
Example: First level Robot RCC (8/2), Boxing (+1) and Archery ROF 2 = 7 attacks.
W.P. used with Bionic built-in Weapons
The W.P. used with a built-in Bionic weapon is whichever W.P. appropriate with that weapon. Light energy weapons would be W.P. Energy Pistol. Mounted Vibro-Blade W.P. Knife. Etc.
W.P. Chain
The W.P. Chain from RUE will not be used. Instead, we will be using the Mystic China WP on page 12 the world book. This grants an Entangle bonus.
W.P. Heavy Mega-Damage Weapons
Heavy Energy Weapons (pre-RUE)
This proficiency is focused on any Military Grade weapons which are M.D.C. based. Normally any and all rail guns, plasma weapons, rocket launchers, grenade launchers and built-in vehicle weapons are included in this category. Additions will be determined through a cross reference of a weapon's weight (greater than or equal to 20 lbs.), damage dealing capacity (greater than or equal to 6D6 MD in a single shot), and design/function of the weapon. Not all weapons will fall into this category, but those that do will be listed.
Weapons included:
NG-P7 Northern Gun Particle Beam Rifle (due to weight and damage)
I-11 Long Gun (due to weight and damage)
W.P. Heavy Military Weapons
aka Heavy Weapons (pre-RUE)
This proficiency is focused at those weapons which are Military Grade weapons and are SDC Based. Any exceptions will be included here.
W.P. Pole Arm
Question: What weapon proficiency does a Lance use?
ANSWER: W.P. Pole Arms.
W.P. Paired Weapons
Question: When attacking with two weapons and W.P. Paired Weapons, how many dice or used?
ANSWER: If you are attacking the same target, it is one Strike roll. If you are attacking two targets, it is two Strike rolls.
Question: If an attacker dual attacks a single target using a W.P. Paired Weapon attacks. And the defender only has one weapon to defend with, can the defender parry both attacks?
ANSWER: If the defender has auto-parry they may attempt to auto-parry the first, and use an action to parry the second. If the defender does not have auto-parry, they may use an action to defend only one attack.
Question: If an attacker with W.P. Paired Weapons performs a dual attack, do they lose their auto-parry.
ANSWER: Yes. They may still dodge, but lose the ability to parry any attacks. In essence, in exchange for the ability to dual attack within one action, you lose the ability to auto-parry. If a player with W.P. Paired Weapons chooses not to use W.P. Paired Weapons for that action, they still may auto-parry up to 3 incoming attackers as per normal.
Question: If a defender with W.P. Paired weapons parries with both of their actions, can they auto-parry any additional attacks?
ANSWER: No. The defender may use remaining actions to parry additional attacks.
Question: Can someone who isn't wielding weapons use W.P. Paired with their bare hands?
ANSWER: Yes. Though performing a parry can be risky without an actual weapon to parry with.
Question: Can I have a pistol in one hand, and an "ancient weapon" in the other?
ANSWER: I've been looking at WP Paired Weapons, and think I would like to do something akin to the suggestion for trying to dual wield firearms without WP Paired Firearms.
It says that if you try to shoot two guns at once there is a penalty of -2 strike with regular hand and -6 to strike with off-hand.
So, in the first example, pistol and ancient weapon, I think there should be a -2 and -6, if you don't have Paired Weapons for BOTH types of weapons. Thus, you would need WP Paired Weapons and WP Paired Firearms, or else you get -2 and -6. There is no swashbuckler skill which allows you to combine them, so you get a penalty. This assumes you are proficient in both of the weapons to start with.
If the player has neither WP Paired or WP Paired Firearms, then the player can not even attempt two attacks at the same time.
Question:
If I am holding a rifle in one hand, and not using it for anything, can I use a pistol in my other hand.
ANSWER: If someone is just holding something in their off hand I don't have an issue with it, but if that player intends to use it for anything other than holding, I think there should be the same -2 / -6. The GM running the scene will make the call that the item is there for no other reason than holding.
Question:
If a player is holding a pistol in both hands, or pistol and sword. What is the penalty to use either one on a single action?
ANSWER: -2 for main hand, -6 for off hand. It is up for the player to choose their on hand and off hand.
Question:
Also, a bit of a tangential question: How do you define "main hand" and "off hand" when the OCC/RCC is ambidextrous?
ANSWER: There are very few OCC/RCCs who are ambidextrous, and most of them have their own rules. But I would most likely go with a -2/-2 penalty or something overall. The one that comes to mind is Quick-Flex Alien.
W.P. Shield
Question: How does WP Shield work on Chronicles of Kingsdale?
ANSWER: In three ways.
- We use the GMG skill progression, not the RUE.
- At the cost of an action, WP Shield allows you to attempt a parry against ranged 'fast' type attacks. Such as bullets, arrows, energy attacks and the like. This is at no penalty, and with all of the bonuses including WP Shield.
- It is important to note the Combat_Amendments#Parry_against_Missiles rules.
W.P. Whip
The bonus to damage granted by this proficiency is SDC only, not MDC.
