The Biggest Stick
From Chronicles
This is Marduk's law of 'the biggest stick possible'.
When you arrive in a RP scene, especially a combat one -- consider what gear you are bringing. This is especially pertinent to vehicles such as tanks, robots, PA, combat hovercycles. Because what you may be doing is dooming your comrades or at least making it very difficult for them.
A GM has to be flexible, but consider their situation. If it is an open scene in the wilderness that characters have had time to prepare for -- by all means bring your big stick, the GM will be expecting it. But something spurr of the moment that your characters may not have had time to prepare for, or other situations..... think about it carefully. By arriving with an item that is vastly more powerful than the PCs around you, you force the GM to make a choice:
Do I
A) Bring something in that will challenge the group, but the powerful character will make a cakewalk
B) Bring something that will challenge the powerful character but be extremely lethal to the rest of the party.
Now, it doesn't always happen this way and there are exceptions. I am just saying this as food for thought, and something for folk to consider. Obviously, the GM has other options such as to throw separate things as the powerful character and the rest of his group -- but these options do not always fit the scene.
Think it over, folks, very carefully.
Sometimes the biggest stick is not the one you want to carry.
