Sep 28 107 PA - Battle for Round Lake
From Chronicles
Celaeno makes her way onto the strip, once again already entirely encased in her armour. With a skip or two, she moves toward the helicopter once it comes into her view, moving to bang on the cockpit if the pilot's not clearly visible. Either way, once she sees him she'll just give a small wave with a chipper, "Hallo there." Out of the hangars come Alonzo, encased in a suit of Flying Titan power armor. Once out onto the field he extends his wings out into flight position before locking them back into ground mode. He begins making his way over towards the helicopter, sizing it up a little as he approaches.
A figure, familiar to some, enters the expanse of the field from the gates. As is her norm, Daeni avoids the generally chaotic, active, and otherwise loud buildings of the strip as much as she is able. The garden and green house are far more tolerable, and more conducive to the continued ability to hear. Following the note of the ubiquitous aircraft, and mildly recognizable individuals in the vicinity, however, her steps alter to approach. Bearing her swords, bow, quiver, and leather attire, the elven huntress travels both prepared and light.
It seems that once again the town's TW has gotten that itch. Or else someone else has squeezed themselves into Nemain's armor and is striding towards the landing field. At the edge of the zone around the chopper the helmet is removed to show that it is indeed Nemain. She glances to the gathered others and quirks up a snowy brow. "Did I miss the party?"
That familiar whine of hovercycle engines can be heard after a moment, and shortly after a lone rider crests over the buildings and shoots into the landing strip area. Most of the people present can recognize Jackson as he comes in, braking near the chopper and touching down next to the larger craft. As he shuts the engine off he offers a wave. "Hey folks. Party start yet?"
Celaeno swivels around on her heels to face the gathering group, giving them a near identical, "Hallo there," only this time lacking the wave. "There's a party, now? It's a hell of a ride, don't get me wrong, but I thought it might be in bad form to tear it up before the mission." She pauses for a minute, "That said, if you're up for it, I could pop over for a bottle." The helmet makes it difficult to tell just how serious she is.
It seems another figure is soon to arrive behind Nemain as Sage comes along in her normal gladiator armor. "Nemain..." She says simply as she picks up the pace to catch up to the technowizard. She doesn't seem to ask the question the other's are as she seems content to wait and see.
The pilot turns from his book to look at the bold Celaeno a moment before looking at his watch. "Got some time yet. Whats up?" He says, cearly not expecting the intrusion.
Alonzo comes to a stop nearby the helicopter and reaches up to unseal his helmet and remove it, "So, is there going to be room inside for me or am I gonna have to hang on to the landing gear?" he asks, smirking a touch.
"If late," Daeni glances to Jackson as she comes to a stop near the aircraft, "us, machine, not be here. Are here, so not late." A statement of the obvious to assist the apparetly oblivious, followed by a dip of her chin in acknowledgement to the others.
Nemain turns to grin to Sage and shrugs. "Where's it headed this time? I got overrun at the shop last mission time?" Her gaze flicking to some of the new faces, then some of hte old faces.
Jackson looks over at Daeni in annoyance, but he stays silent. Instead he pulls his cycle onto the chopper and secures it. "So.. what's the deal with time? Recon or... wetwork?" He asks mildly, buckling himself in.
Turning back to the pilot, Celaeno grins behind her mask, "Just saying hallo. Can't a girl be friendly?" she asks, head cocking to the side before returning to the situation at hand - getting all the accouterments for a party in the sky. She's content to remain outside the helicopter for the moment, moving into a ready lean until time to lift off.
Once she gets to be even with Nemain, Sage will walk along side the other woman. "Heck if I know." She replies with a mildly cheerful tone, "I wasn't able to make the last time either." She comments as she glances further ahead, "But, looks like I may have to scale back my overall space idea for that spa thing... Tirzah is thinking of making a joint venture to help get her business stuff out of the apartment. So, it might be Sage Alternatives and Mystic Solutions.. or whatever Tirzah calls the place in one place."
"So we gotten a mission briefing yet?" Alonzo asks Cel, her being nearest the helicopter without actually being loading up into it. "Or are they waiting till we're in the air to get the word?" he asks.
The pilot shrugs, putting down his book as people are already making themselves comfortable in the back. "All aboard." He calls to any not already on. "Longest and last trip today. and probably your hardest assignment. Hope you're all duely prepared."
Nemain blinks at Sage's news. "Congrats, I think." A grin flashing as she nods towards the chopper. "Looks like hte boarding call."
Daeni also remains standing outside of the craft, as the journey will be lengthy and cramped enough. At the words of the pilot, however, she steps within to claim a seat. "Will be much fight, death. Is battle, war." She offers her own prognosis or prediction of the impending 'Op' to her fellow passengers. The pilot receives a more enthusiastic agreement. "Challenge is good."
Jackson looks between Sage and Nemain and grins, but he keeps his thought to himself for now. He does however, pull his new weapon from it's holster, and he examines it, making sure everything is in order. Reholstering it, he looks around for Cel. Celaeno?! I need to talk to you."
"It's a long flight," Celaeno says with a shrug to Alonzo, "and I think they like to make sure we're locked in before telling us what's up. So in the air we'll get to talk it all out, hey?" At the command of the pilot, she sighs, "Damn, didn't have time to run off and score us some liquor," she says regretfully. "That's all right, that's all right," and on she climbs, trying to find a seat to wedge herself into, gaze dragging to Jackson. "Yeh?"
"I'm not sure whether its a thing to be congratulated or not... but, it allow having someone around in case something were to happen." Sage replies with a faint shrug, "It will simply my plans as well... we're still on for the appointment, right?" She asks before nodding and beginning to make her way towards the helicopter to find her way into it and settle into a seat. Alonzo laughs, "Well, I could fly some out to you if I could catch up to the bird." He says with a grin at Cel before he starts towards the door of the helicopter and climbs aboard. Nemain nods as she gestures towards the chopper. Then grins before hooking her helmet to her belt and starting that way. She lifts the rifle and hangs it over her shoulder.
With everyone on the doors are closed and the pilot moves ahead to take the chopper into the air. Minutes later they are at high altitude traversing to the north east in perfect silence. "So today you folks are going to a battle already in progress." The pilot starts relating over the intercom. "Round lake is a northern military fortress established by Free Quebec, its currently under seige. The thing about it though is that this small battle will be a perfect model for the entire war. How it progresses will detail to both sides how the rest will unfold and trigger critical adjustments to strategy. Now since Tolkeen wants to look appealing to Quebec as an aliance it would be bad if this battle showed a favorable outcome for them. However, you six cant change the outcome. What you can do though is prevent either sides from knowing much of the details."
Jackson leans closer to Cel, "Look.. I don't mean to offend.. and I don't know how you do it, but there is something about you that kills my powers. I think for the effectiveness of the mission, and any missions we go on in the future, we should stay at opposite ends of the group. that way if I have to use my powers, I can without worrying if we're too close. Nothing against you personally.. but ... yeah." He tells the woman, then leans back in his seat, turning his head towards the pilot, and his brows furrow. "Wait.. we can't interfere with the battle, but we have to disable their information gathering efforts?"
Celaeno's helmet remains turned in Jackson's direction, letting him get his piece out before giving a shrug. "Don't know what you're driving at, mate," she says evenly, "but if you want to keep away and to yourself, that's fine with me. Don't need to come up with some whole thing as explanation." She then immediately shifts toward the front, "So, there some sort of communication towers you want us to blow up, or some runners you'd like dealt with?"
Daeni sets her pack beside her and opens it as she listens to the pilot. Her lips curl upwards somewhere between smirk and smile while segments of dark chitin are removed from the pack to be strapped to her person. "Kill scouts, both armies? Is much better than only watch."
"Huh." Alonzo says as he finds a good spot to get comfy in the helicopter. The wings on his back don't help things much, "Should be do-able, I suppose." He comments with a slight shrug of his shoulders, "What specific objectives do you want accomplished?"
Once settled, Sage is intent on paying more attention to this briefing than the last where she got momentarily confused about the true objective. She considers the comments being offered before giving a thoughtful frown. "I don't suppose there's any interference we can setup in case destroying isn't an option."
Nemain settles in and looks over the pilot as the briefing happens. "Do you have maps ready for this battle?" A grin showing as she glances to Sage. "Not sure jamming their signals would be a good thing. Alert them to our involvement.
Jackson frowns at Celaeno's reply but he doesn't pursue it any further for his own reasons. But he does turn his attentions to the discussion ongoing. "If it's a device of some kind they use to record the battle data, then I can find and eliminate those. My powers allow me to find electrical objects. As for simply jamming them.. if they both gt jammed, they naturally assume it's each other. No reason to suspect third party involvement unless we show ourselves.." He tells everyone, looking pointedly at Daeni.
"If not want enemy see, hear, tell," Daeni rolls her shoulders after attaching pauldrons to each, "cut out eyes, ears, tongue. Find machines maybe good, but not stop minds. Destroy machines, kill scouts, armies know nothing." The pointed look from Jackson is returned. "Not need show self to kill enemy."
"Quebec has towers, the Coalition will have a relay going. They will have personal recorders but that much different from the real time transmission of the battle progress. It will take them months to reconstruct the battle's unfolding from each individual recording. Those of you familiar with radios know that long distance transmissions are a thing of the past. Line of site 25 miles is the maximum for a high data signal. Much less including terain. Your objective is to keep both sides as in the dar as possible." The pilot continues.
Celaeno nods, "Seems straightforward enough to me. Take down the tower, nab a few recorders, replace them with a few fake ones, get out." She shifts around in her seat for a few moments, swinging her rifle around so as to have something to occupy her hands. "Anything else?"
"Not sure where we'll be getting fake ones from..." Sage comments, unsure it'll be quite as easy as Celaeno is suggesting. "Could also toss around some smoke grenades for confusion..." She adds before shrugging.
"Well, taking out their retrans and towers could be difficult, potentially." Alonzo says, "Is anyone here skilled at Electronic Warfare techniques?" he asks, looking at the motley crew assembled.
Nemain hmms softly, "Depending on what type of equipment, I could talk it into seeing stuff differently or not at all."
Jackson grins, as he has come to absolutely love pissing Daeni off. The highlight of his day sometimes. "Completely incapable of subtlety.." He says of Daeni, grinning. But he returns to the general conversation. "Ok.. well.. best plan of attack would be to split up, one group take the Coalition, the other take the Quebec side. I vote we try something subtle.. like changing the transmission frequency, even if it's to a nonsense channel so the information is lost, rather than blowing up the towers or the relay. For the towers, maybe try the same thing.. or if we must, a fast and silent takedown, and permanently disable the recorders.. like melting and fusing the inner circuitry.." He offers mildly.
Daeni completes the process of donning her armor and looks between the others. "Is simple. Find speaking machines, kill guards. After stop machines, can fight armies as want. Make lose, make win but weak." The glance at Jackson hardens suspiciously and she leans towards him. "What is 'subtelty?'" Whether or not she is capable of it, the word itself is not within her American vocabulary.
"I think the recorders are going to be a bit harder to locate, though I've got to admit I've never seen one before. Maybe they're giant spires stricking precariously out of an unarmoured shell of a tank," she shrugs. "Otherwise, I might be able to jam 'em up here and there, but it's not a long term solution." She shrugs.

Maybe they're giant spires stricking precariously out of an unarmoured shell of a tank," Celaeno shrugs. "Otherwise, I might be able to jam 'em up here and there, but it's not a long term solution." She shrugs.
"I'll take the Coalition repeaters." Alonzo offers, " I've had a lot of experience with their tactics, and I've sabotaged their communications equipment in the past." He gestures his head towards Cel, "I'd like you to come along as well if noone has any opposition." He says, looking towards the others, "Any of the rest of you able to sabotage the Quebec equipment?" he asks.
"I imagine it depends on where the records are being kept for the Quebec side... if they have towers, they might be sending the information to some place away from the fighting to make sure they can learn something even if the worst happens... but I have no skill in learning where." Sage comments simply.
Nemain settles back as she listens to the others start to plan a bit. A slight cant to her head as the wheels turn and rumble in her head. "Technological towers wouldn;t be too hard to take out. Mystical though would give us issues." She glances around the gathered group, then back towards the front where she asked if there were any maps of the area. "WE know the CS won't have magical means. And from what I've seen of the Glittery ones, they aren't too keen on magics either."
Jackson frowns. "I doubt they have magical relays. More than likely they rely on tech, and use magic for their defences and offence. And Psi.. Although.. they may be using a psychic transmission.. telepathic relays.." He says shrugging, and eyeing Daeni. "Exactly.." He tells her, but doesn't bother to explain.
Daeni merely glares at Jackson for a lengthy moment. A snort is loosed and she sits upright once more. "All can talk, plan many hours. Still not know what there until are there. I can find, destroy machines, kill warriors. Coalition or Quebec, not matter."
"I'll go wherever I'll be the most help, though I've got to ask," Celaeno says as much to the pilot as the group, "How do the recorders work? Self contained, non transmissive? Or do they all transmit back to a main data storage location? Because if it's the first, then I'd probably be better off heading to the thing that transmits, yeh? But like I said, I'm fine wherever." Her attention slides to the others, "And I think it's going to be a pretty tech-heavy fight. Maybe I'm wrong, but none of the players are exactly known for being heavy supernaturals - though there might be a couple mercs running around."
"Do we even need to destroy their data centers, or disrupt them? That seems excessively risky, and quite likely to cause the mission to fail. If we can disrupt communications from the point we intervene it should suit our employers needs sufficiently, from my understanding."
"Do we even need to destroy their data centers, or disrupt them? That seems excessively risky, and quite likely to cause the mission to fail. If we can disrupt communications from the point we intervene it should suit our employers needs sufficiently, from my understanding." Alonzo says with a little shrug.
"All you need to do is prevent the data from reaching Quebec and Chi town. Anything else is your own neck. All CS and Quebec armor have the capability to record, it common practice to do so in an engagement for review and improvement." The pilot answers and confirms.
Nemain hmms softly as she nods slightly. "So we have to short out all the armors, hmm?"
Jackson looks to the pilot, listening. And completely ignoring the look he get's from Daeni at the same time. "Ok.. so if all the armor is capable of recording, and we're not allowed to interfere.. that limits us to the transmission points. The CS relay, and the quebec tower. I vote subtle to avoid being noticed and shot at. I can catch the shots, but only so many."
Celaeno nods. "See? Totally straight forward. Take down the tower, disrupt the relay, don't get caught or killed. Don't have to worry about the armour, by the time they're able to piece anything together from that it'll be too late to do anything about. So, we're down to me and Alonzo taking care of the relay, hey? Jackson, you and Nemain were going to jump at the tower, and the others get to pick their poison, unless we were scrapping the whole splitting up idea entirely."
Alonzo nods his head slightly and he looks to the others, "Yeah, sounds like that's the plan." He says to Cel, "Should be fairly simple to manage." He glances towards the others now, "Where would you two like to go?" he asks.
Nemain nods as she lifts her halmet and slips it on. "Lovely. Two vs the tower. Check. When do we set down? And is this a blind op, or are there images of the set up availible to us yet?"
Jackson smiles, "Yeah I'll take the tower with Nemain. I'm not sure what she can do other than build magic enhanced weapons.. but it'll be interesting to see. I'll protect her." He teases the woman. "My powers and her skills should help ease the mission. I can recon it before we get there, I just need to see it from afar."
Celaeno grins behind her helmet, "You want to get a nice overhead view? Just crowd the windows when we pass over. It's a battlefield, it's going to be shifting all over the place," she says, beginning a quiet hum. "We can figure out the rest when we hit the ground. We going in hot?" she asks, turning once more to the cockpit.
"If this thing flies over the battlefield we'll be lucky to get away without a Boom Gun shooting us down, or a flight of SAMAS flying up our ass." Alonzo says, "We'll need to get out well short of the battlefield, possibly at different egress points to effect a good stealthy insertion." He says, "That's easy enough for me, and I could probably if they don't mind getting cozy for a few minutes." He says.
"We are not going in hot. I'll land at the second tower from the front line to let off the first group. The second group stays on to continue north to the Coalition relay." The pilot clairifies.
Nemain hmms softly as she shakes her head. "So we get off at the first tower. Makes things easier. Boom Guns aould rather suck to have ripping through us."
"Nemain and I can make a hot drop.. I've got my cycle. That way we save time and less risk to the chopper, pilot got all pissy when he got shot at the first time out." He says, calling out the last bit just to annoy the pilot. Jackson grins then, and turns to Nemain. "Ok.. assuming it's just us, how you wanna work this? I'm not sure just what you can do so.. a little heads up would be nice. Are you magically or psychically gifted at all? Other than making techno devices.."
"Will stop Coalition machine, guards." Daeni is uncertain of the number of towers or relays involved, yet is confident that they will succeed, regardless. She pans her attention to Celaeno, or, at the least, away from Jackson, as her declared assignment conveniently allows.
"Sounds good to me," Celaeno says, apparently unconcerned with the fact that the two least combat-related people will be accompanying Jackson, while she gets the axe-crazy elf and guy in power armour. Otherwise, she just leans back in her seat, letting the helicopter move.
With everything decided the chopper lands at the end of the 12 hour trip to let Jackson and Nemain off in the woods away from the tower. Once they are off it lifts off again to take the others to the Coalition relay.
After a mile of forest the com tower comes into view. A simple shed really, meant to be discrete. Its tower goes up atleast fifty feet to clear the trees and send its signal south to the next tower.
Nemain eyes Jackson and chuckles. "I'm a Techno-Wizard, dolt. What do you think?" Her arms crossing as she waits. "Taht does mean that I tend to do more than just make toys for folk." She glances around the rest of the gathered adventurers. "Looks like most of the combat people are off to face the CS>"
Jackson exits the chopper with Nemain, mock glaring at the woman as she insults him. "I know psychics and monsters. Unless Technowizards fit into one of those categories.. no go." He tells her, then motions to be quiet, and he follows suit himself. "Let's go, and let's stay quiet." He tells her, moving off towards the tower, one hand on the funny looking pistol at his side.
Daeni observes the departure of the pair and rises as the aircraft rises to continue on. With the battle and the Coalition ahead, she steps to the door in order to obtain the best view possible of what lies ahead and, for the moment, below.
Nemain swings the rifle down as she exits the chopper. "We're psi and magic. But we're limited to the machines for true effectiveness." She glances towards the tower and nods. "Alright, let's do this."
Jackson continues to move to the tower, his eyes scanning the the area immediatly in front of him for traps, and the tower itself for guards or traps on it, automated turrets and such. His thoughts are now completely on the business at hand now, and he mentally readies himself for either tackling the tech job, or guarding Nemain as she does it.
Three guards each manning a turret on to of the shed to cover all angles of attack. Any two could fire on a single target. The two facing Jackson and Nemain dont look to have spotted them yet.
Jackson watches Nemain drop to draw a bead on the guard, and he pulls his own pistol, and crouches with it, but he waits for Nemain to fire first, as he's on defence right now.
The guards remain oblivious to the two now aiming at them, clearly not expecting such a small ground based attack force.
Nemain hmms softly as she lines up for a nice shot and takes it. No muzzle flash, no ion beams. Just a ball of pure force.
Jackson winces as he see's the ball of force fire and he takes aim with his own pistol. His is a little more flashy, a bolt of fire that lashes out at his guard of choice.
Oblivious no longer, being hit be some unseen force with joslting impact is more than enough to draw notice. Not to mention the fire the went a little wide. Both turrets turn to target the pair and fire.
Nemain dives to the side as it seems that they drew attention. Yeah, that was a good idea. Next time it's the long range sleep bombs. How far down can a turret pivot?
Jackson leans to the side as the guards return fire, feeling the heat of their shot pass by him narrowly missing. "Up and move!" He tells Nemain, standing and sprinting towards the shed, not waiting for Nemain. Le'ts see how their ground game is.
The turrets pivot to track the pair easily, looks like the soldiers are looking for good shots. There seems to be no concerns of cover, quite clear that any one of the three can shoot a target in any proximity to the shed with no mounting problems.
Jackson dives forward as he runs, letting the blast aimed his way pass over him harmlessly, burning into the dirt behind him. "Keep moving, get in close to them!"
Nemain holds her position as it seems that they are opening up something fierce. She does still dodge to hte side as another burst comes in. Jackson frowns, seeing Nemain stopping short of the mad dash's finish line. "I win.." He mutters, stepping inside, and holstering his magic pistol. Instead, his bare hands come up and anyone within the shed is going to get a face full of lightning.
The fire on the pair continues without abate, the one turret pointing straight down to aim at Jackson as he reaches the hexagon shed.
Jackson looks up as he steps inside the shed, straight up the barrel of the turret staring him in the face. A quickstep and a spin and he's inside the shed, safe from turret fire, the turrets shot missing him.
Nemain shifts to the side as if lining up for another shot. Perhaps to draw the fire for Jackson to try to do something with it. Annother shot towards the turret pointing down time time.
Jackson keeps moving, getting out from directly under the turret, and as soon as he see's a guards head he raises a hand. "Peekaboo.." He calls up, and a flash of searing lightning flashes out at the guard.
So far the attack is not looking to be much of a threat on the tower as the initial foray completes.
While one turret guards helmet is getting fairly shot up the other is doing all right. Both continue to fire on their asailants.
Nemain dodges to the side again as they continue to hose out towards her. "Come on.. Reload.." she growls as she tries to line up anothe shot towards the guys trying to end Jackson.
And Jackson is gone.. Albeit any shot could end the life of a unprotected human it should be noted that a critical shot ended Jackson, vaporizing him istanly head first to leave what durable items he had with him behind. With that the gunners turn on Nemain. One down, one to go.
Nemain gasps as she takes a couple bursts full on. Then starts inching her way back away from the turrets. "We've got some issues here." she offers over the radio. Her attetnion on the turrets incase they open up on her again.
Their target on the run the one turret continues to fire while the one Jackson assaulted steps away, trading places with another from within the shed via a hatch on the roof.
Nearly a hundred miles north of that difficult radio tower the chopper lands to let the second group out in the woods a mile north of on of the Coaltions relay points.
Celaeno hops out of the helicopter, her rifle remaining slung over her shoulder as she unslings her field radio, peering around at the surrounding area briefly. "I'm just going to see if I can't pick up their transmission from it while we're still out at a safe distance, hey? Probably encrypted, but it'd be nice to nail down the frequencies, and who knows, maybe there's something interesting." Doing so will, hopefully, take but a moment before she'll re-shoulder the thing and be ready to begin the march.
Alonzo hops out of the Helicopter, helmet re-attached, and his rifle in hand as he starts off from the big target, aka the helicopter. His gaze scans the treeline, "Alright, move quietly, keep up your spacing and don't shoot unless you get shot out first." He says to the others. He gives a slight nod towards Celaeno as she checks her radio, "Let me know what you find out." He says.
Daeni disembarks several feet short of touchdown, belying her eagerness to exchange inactivity for activity. "Need move quiet, hidden if not want fight all army." It is merely a reminder of what could be obvious, and her preference remains somewhat vague as she begins to move south through the trees.
Celaeno nods to herself. "Yep, yep, keep it quiet - if you see anything, back off and let me set up the jammer back and away from the fighting, before things go to shit." Once this information's been communicated, she'll begin sliding along as stealthily as trying to keep up with Daeni allows.
Daeni slows her pace once she reaches the trees and leaves the aircraft behind. This serves to both aid the others in keeping pace and improves her own ability to move less conspicuously. Her attention focuses upon the path ahead, wary as the distance to their expected target shrinks.
Alonzo lurks along with the others, doing his best to keep from making any overt noises as the small troupe advances on the retrans site.
A mile of wilderness walk takes time when your taking the effort to not be noticed, but eventually the four make it to the swath the Coalition cuth through the forest in marching its army through. In its wake a small apc is left. Three Coalition soldiers sit out side playing cards, but the hands get put down and they rise as two make eye contact with Daeni.
For the moment none of the others have been spotted so the three refiles com e up to point at Daeni and fire.
As they get closer and closer, Sage ends up palming a grenade as they may be able to find a cluster of unsuspecting soldiers. When their sneaking suddenly goes south, her attention is quickly brought to the three soldiers. Before they can remember to spread, she primes the grenade and tosses it.
The gunfire, and the grenade explosion spurs Alonzo to action and he takes a quick, jet assisted leap across the short distance to attempt a ram into one of the coalition troopers.
Celaeno retreats back and away from the fighting, stepping behind a tree as she unslings the radio. "Damnit," she mumbles, moving to try and jam any outgoing signals or calls for help.
How was Daeni to know that the tree she placed her hand on was so fragile? The sudden creak and complain of wood provokes a curt curse that does not improve the situation. When her reflexive twitch away from the incoming fire proves only partially effective, the expletive grows to a growl. Blades are drawn and she begins her own charge and leap towards the top of the vehicle.
Well now, looks like there is a situation, one apc turret turns on Daeni, the other on Alonzo.
One guard is kncked down by Alonzo and must take a moment to recover, the other two turn on Sage, who tried to blow them all to hell.
A satisfactory explosion with an unclear result, Sage isn't one to celebrate. Instead, she breaks out her rifle into a more readied position only to find that she's being targeted. She roll her body out of the way and settles on the ground...
Ignoring the one that drops his weapon, Sage opens up a pulse on the one that fired upon her.
Alonzo steps aside, his armor having previously been scorched by the turret from the APC. "Run away, Skullies." He says to the troopers as he flits over to scoop up the fumbling troopers rifle.
With the jammer doing its job, Celaeno brings her rifle around, peering around the tree that she's using for cover as she picks out the least damaged soldier. The rifle comes nearly all the way up, but remains slightly lowered as her eyes flicker behind her faceplate, at one before sliding to the other.
Daeni's first priority is her most recent attacker, in the form of the turret which she unleashes upon. Following this is the vehicle itself or, rather, the means to get access. It is far more efficient to crack the shell and crush the nuts inside than attempt to dissect the transport while it is firing at her. Their true target is likely inside, as well.
As one turret is incapacitated the other contnues to fire at alonzo and a salvo of mini missiles is sent at the destructive force that is Daeni.
Two of the soldiers find that can not move at all, not even scream in panic as their bodies do not respond. the third, unarmed pulls out a blinder grenade. "Take this fuckers!" He cries defiantly.
When two of the soldiers inexplicably drop, Sage brings her weapon to bear on the last one left standing. A throwing motion tells her the soldier isn't completely disarmed. Her fingers squeezing off two pulses.
As the Last standing Coalition trooper pulls out a grenade to drop it, Alonzo launches up skyward and back with a powerful rocket-assisted leap away to clear away. As the man falls back to the ground his wings lock out and a volley of missiles streak out at the rear hatch of the APC. ooc damage
When the blinder goes off, Celaeno's nose wrinkles, the explosions surrounding all seeming a little over the top, she decides to make her presence known. The rifle lifts another half inch to her face, and she snaps off one pulse, then - if the soldier remains standing - another.
It appears that Daeni annoyed the Coalition as much as they has annoyed her. The hail of incomining munitions proves too tight a gauntlet for her to dip and weave through, and the resulting explosion vaporizes most of her armor. What remains is either left behind as the concussion throws her from the vehicle or lost upon the ground nearby when she impacts it. To add insult to injury, there is also the blinding flash from the sole mobile soldier. Unfortunately for the Coalition, Daeni is yet alive, and much, much more upset. Unfortunately for her, all that she is able to do at present is stumble to her feet and blink in attempt to rid herself of the glaring after-images.
As the standing soldier is down, Sage takes a moment to look around as she begins to rise up from the ground where she'd remained prone. Assuming she doesn't see anything threatening, she'll make her way in towards the camp. "Everyone okay?" She asks.
Alonzo frowns a bit, though the expression is lost due to his helmet. He takes a quick leap across the gap towards the APC to attempt and muscle his way into the back of the APC, or at least get a good look inside.
After a slight hesitation looking down her sight as the soldier falls, Celaeno moves back to her radio to check the jamming situation, as well as doing a quick check for unencrypted communications or threatening chatter. Once that's done, she'll return it to her back, and begin creeping out, hesitantly.
"Am still alive." Daeni will not consider herself 'Ok' until she can see once more. "Enemy all dead?" This is a rather important concern, and the reason her swords remain drawn despite the fact that she could conceivably sheath them, blind or not.
"I'm not sure." Sage responds as she closes in on the scene of carnage, "Saw two drop, but not sure whether they were killed or not." She comments, before switching over to her radio. "Cel's what the status?"
"Everyone get the fuck away. The reactor's going critical." Alonzo says to the others. That said, he moves to grab up one of the paralyzed grunts, "I'm gonna see if he bounces." He says as he reaches to scoop up the guy by the straps of his gear and launch off into the sky at full clip, tucking the trooper under his arms like a football.
Celaeno emerges completely, approaching the area at a slow jog, "And there's no chatter on the radio, of any kind, so I think we should look over everything and call" she says, before Alonzo's statement registers and she begins backing away again, to duck behind a tree. "Too many damn explosions..." she mutters to herself.
Sage counts her blessings as she was walking in instead of running in as she suddenly turns around and begins to run in the opposite direction of the APC. She wishes she had an idea of when the explosion will come, but she'll look for cover to dive behind when she feels she's gotten a good distance between her and it. Alonzo continues to zoom off, last seen heading away from the known enemy lines at a goodly clip, hauling the poor trooper off to whatever painful end him, and the ground, may come up with.
And BOOM!!! the Apc goes nuclear with a blinding flash and catastrophic explosion that atomizes everything in a 40 foor radius. Beyond the showave and carried debree make for devastation to the environment, but little damage to those protected in modern armor.
Rising up for the debris cover she picked up, Sage takes one look back towards the scene of the carnage. "Well, at least we don't have to worry about what's left behind..." She replies with a bit of humour, "Guess we go see what trouble happened at the tower now." She comments before she begins to make her way towards the rendevous point.
As things settle back down, Celaeno whistles and emerges from her hiding place. "Well, shit. Let's get out of here - if we didn't alert somebody before, this is definitely going to bring at least a platoon to check it out." And she begins back, double checking that Daeni is fit to move.
Daeni only required one nuclear explosion and the felling of a tree via her face to regain her vision. That, or merely the passage of the time for the above. A few final blinks clear her eyes and she rises to her feet to follow the retreating Sage. "If others done, can find, fight more."
The helicopter awaits, ready for take off. The pilot looks a little curious about the boom her heard but says nothing of it. "Loose one?" he asks in stead at the absent power armor.
"No, I think he's playing with a soldier right now." Sage replies, "Last I saw he was flying somewhere... he'll probably catch up if he's smart." She comments, before settling into a seat near the door to be ready to disembark for the next phase.
After finishing whatever business he was up to, Alonzo starts zoooming off at treetop height back towards the LZ, having dropped back down to near cruising speed now that he's not fleeing a reactor explosion. Luckily for him, he didn't have to walk the mile or so back to the helicopter, thanks to wings and a nuclear powered jetpack.
Celaeno shrugs as Alonzo comes flying back, "Looking to bring as much attention as you can, hey?" she asks as soon as he's within range, "What happened with your friend - find anything saleable on him?" She's smirking behind her helmet, but beyond that, simply goes to get comfortable in her seat.
"Other machine is destroyed?" Daeni queries as she climbs aboard to await transport, albeit with impatience. She will remain near the door as the trip is brief.
With everyone on board the Helicopter is off for the hour long trip back to rendevous with the other team. Though when they find just Nemain waiting in beat up armor things are clearly amiss.
Nemain sits near the LZ looking much the worse for wear. Her TK rifle resting across her lap as she eyes the way she came back from. She glances towards the choper as if settles and groans. One hand lifting to wave.
Once they arrive, Sage slips out of the helicopter and soon comes running over to where Nemain sits. "Nemain!" She calls out softly, before skidding to a stop as she checks the other woman over. "Where's Jackson? What happened?" Her manner concerned instead of judgemental.
"I think the nuclear explosion overshadows me zipping around. I've got a Radar detector anyway, if SAMAS were after me I'd have known." Alonzo replies back, "We should go pick up the others though, because they will be coming, and I can't out-fight them." He explains during the trip back to the other team "All he had was the typical coalition garbage. Didn't want to waste time rifling his pockets though, in light of the smoke signal we sent up." he pauses, "He didn't bounce very well either." He adds before his attention shifts to the arriving scene.
Celaeno just grunts when she realizes what's apparently happened, turning briefly to the Pilot for a quick, "So, I take it in order to get paid we have to do both, yeah?" She doesn't even wait for a reply when she jumps down, letting Sage deal with it for the moment as she produces her radio for a similar display as she did before their previous mission.
Daeni promptly dismounts and turns her attention to their surroundings rather than Nemain. Not only is Sage already tending to the other woman, but the enemy may be following Nemain. "Machine is destroyed?" Her query is a general repeat of the one prior, and is made to no one specific as she scans the land round them.
Nemain hisses softly as she pushes herself up. "We ran into the turrets, He didn't make it back out. And we didn't even manage to remove one of them." She loks down at her armor, or more to the point. What's left of it.
Alonzo's performance is a bit lackluster on the attack on the turrets, what with his gun 'malfunctioning', and not using his missiles. But he doesn't get shot at this time, showing only a small damage scar on his power armor from the previous skirmish. "Looks clear outside." He says as Daeni ginsu's well, everything. "If you need to pull back to the chopper go." He says to her.
While Sage may not be as powerful as the mighty Elven huntress, she wields the rifle with deadly vengeance for their fallen comrade to help scorch the turrets down. She marvels its all done how the Elven huntress can take punishment beyond her own wildest dreams. "For Jackson..." She says somberly, before she begins to retreat back towards the helicopter. There is still one friend that's likely hurting...
As they storm the shed, Celaeno's rifle comes up briefly... only to jam on her. But once she gets it back up and running, her shot goes wide. Unable to get her swords drawn and gain access to the shed before Daeni makes short work of the rest of the people on the top and the antennae, she shrugs, continuing in a quick moment to look through and scavenge anything of value from the structure and surroundings, frowning to herself as she sees the vaporized remains of Jackson.
Daeni was deprived of her armor due to an excess of explosives, yet this slows her very little. It may even provide additional motivation to act quickly, considering the blasts from the turrets atop the building scorch skin and are rather uncomfortable, to say nothing of the effect upon her very recent and quite comfortable clothing. A sprint, leap, and several whirling spins of blades leave one turret gouged, another in tatters, and the third reduced to small segments. She may appear a blur, but to her, the world merely seems to move far more slowly. This allows her just enough time within the span of moments to seperate the mast into a distinct pair and send the upper portion falling away from the others with a growl and kick. Daeni is courteous enough to ensure than none below are impaled by the cascading metal.
Nemain finally makes her way from the LZ to the tower. Or what's left of it. Clean up duty, she owes Jackson that much at least. She would try to check into what was to be transmitted since the antenna was all that was destroyed. A bit of ghosting and she might be able to futz up much of their readings.
Having found the technowizard along the way, Sage moves along with the woman. She makes no real attempt to speak to her friend beyond what might be offered, hoping that her presence nearby will be a comfort until she can try to help more on the trip back to the city. For now, they have the last of their task to focus on.
