Sep 09 02:31:48 109 PA - Teaching Sithik Sensory Equipment
From Chronicles
All is quiet at this hour of the morning at Uncommon Mechanics. The landing strip is already active and a bit busy at the moment. One of the bay doors are open and Tek's Land Rover looks to be prepared for this mornings training session. The smell of fresh coffee can be smelled once inside the shop. Tek is just inside dressed and ready to start the day.
Sithik arrives, identity concealed behind robe and veil for the casual onlooker, his rifle slung over his shoulder along with his fur backpack. Held casually in one hand, the navigation device that sparked his interest to learn more about its use, which he clicks off as he enters and tucks under his robe. To one of Tek's kind, it is apparent the robe conceals more than just his identity, the man is ready for battle by the arms carried just behind the cloth. Once the mechanic is noticed, a bow of his head is offered in silent greeting.
Tek smiles as he sees Sithik and says, "Right on time. Are you expecting trouble this morning?" he looks out of the bay doors to see if there is something out there that could possibly be a threat.
Sithik calmly replies, "Yes." and outside the doors seems normal enough for an early morning of this time. The reptilian creature normally found with the man is no where to be seen, not even peeking out from behind a parked vehicle sniffing around. "What will today's lesson be?"
Tek nods and keeps an eye out the door, "Well I am thinking we will review what I taught you last time mostly. Seeing as Navigation and vehicle type sensory equipment will be what you are mostly going to be using. We will go over the rest in the next session. I already got her warming up," he motions to the Land Rover, "why don't you jump in and get your head right. I am going to put my armor on real quick and then we can head out."
Sithik climbs up into the passenger seat and immediately sets up the sensory equipment inside so he can easily play navigator from his side. Initially he programs in a location while Tek gets ready, we'll see how well he did from memory. He has been practicing with his own navigational equipment. Once all that is set in he switches over to the radar to get an idea of airborne and large vehicle traffic.
Tek finishes up getting armed and armored and climbs up into the drivers seat. After a quick review of what Sithik is doing he pulls the Rover out of the bay and the bay door closes behind them. Pulling out onto a side roadway next to the landing strip the Rover comes to a stop just off to the side of the road, "Alrighty then I will just watch as you go through the radar operation and I will only step in when you need it."
Sithik has the radar screen up, and there are plenty of blips around, a good mix of air and large ground traffic. "How do you keep both navigational and radar up at the same time again? My device only does navigation, yours is much more complicated." looking over the radar he plays with a few settings and eliminates the air traffic from the picture, so only the large ground traffic is seen. Much of it being cleared, "There, air traffic is irrelevant right now. Pick a target, I will guide you to it."
Tek looks over at the screen before saying as he points to an area on the device, "This here is the PiP toggle, flip it either this way or that to rotate through the different display options. And lets see here... Umm... yea, this one right here will work. Tell me which way to go."
Sithik checks the heading of the target and then references it with the navigational sensors and points in the direction of the gates, "It's outside the city, if we hurry we won't lose it. Once outside the city, head to the farms."
Tek smiles with a nod and heads off in the direction his hunter friend is pointing, "Sure thing, just let me know if I get off course."
Sithik keeps an eye on the equipment as Tek heads out of the city, the traffic at the gate is thick, slowing the pair down in their chase. This gives the target time to reach the limits of the devices range, still it's blip remains. The other traffic seems to interfere and at one point the hunter looks as though he lost it, but once through the traffic jam the interference fades some.
Tek seems to enjoy the struggle but remains quiet and even nods in approval when Sithik regains his confidence and points out the correct direction. Things seeming under control Tek remains quiet to let the other man concentrate.
Sithik does remain concentrated on the radar, as he has these main roads memorized for the most part through his daily hunting and trapping excursions. "A couple miles up turn right towards the farms." the blip disappears, but the hunter anticipated it and compares what was last known to the navigation, feeling confident it will be on the road out to the farms, just being out of range currently.
Tek nods and increases his speed once out of the traffic at the gates, "Gotcha, it did not look to be going too fast we should catch it. Do you remember how to check if it has active radar?"
Maybe she shows up on radio with two robot carcasses in tow. Maybe its just the smell.. Whichever draws notice Valeriya is headed back into the city. And she probably keeps it once drawn as only tatters are left of her stalker suit. In ear arm hangs a large robotic carcass of only the torso and a single leg, probably the fashion advisers for her current outfit.
Sithik hesitates looking over the controls, "I should have thought of that." he comments as he eventually finds the setting on the controls. Then realizes it's not on the screen anymore so the setting is pointless at this point. "Found it, though gotta find the vehicle again. I'm guessing within a mile as fast as your going." and he is too new at this to pick out Valeriya's form on the device and eyes too busy to visually catch her and her catch.
Tek notices Valeriya in his visual range as he steers but at this distance he is not quite sure what it is, "Turn back on the portion of the radar that picks up flying objects. We have a bogie at twelve o'clock. It's shape is odd. Three legs I think, might be some type of nasty. Turn on the optics as well see if you can zoom in once you see it on screen. Hell you might even get to test out the weapon system again if it is some super natural creature bent on our destruction. Wait didn't you say someone is after you?" with that Tek slows his speed and starts to scan the area in case he needs to get them out of there and back to the city.
Valeriya keeps to her flightpath, not looking to care too much about the traffic below. The mechanical salvage in her grip looks to be a robot that may have originally been over twelve feet tall. Its jet black torso hanging from the intact leg. Both still seem to be struggling actually, if ineffectually.
Sithik sets the radar to locate all targets, flying and ground, then it takes a moment, but he finds the optics and tries to zoom in on the target indicated. Again, he's not had as much practice with this and it takes a few moments to get the image in focus, this seems to change the mood of the hunter a bit. "Appears it could be Valeriya. She is carrying something I think." keeping a bead on her is not as easy as one would think when both are moving.
Tek stops the Rover and looks at the screen and when he sees it to be Valeriya he opens a channel on the radio, "Tek to Valeriya... I think I can see you from the rover, is that you heading towards the city? over."
Valeriya has her hands full so she cant exactly key the radio at her hip. But she does here the call over her frequency. Such coincides with her flying figure turning about to scan the traffic below.
Sithik is able to lock on to the flying mage once the vehicle stops and she is the only moving portion of the equation. "You should probably let her know I am with you." he states almost as a courtesy for Tek's well being.
Tek looks over to Sithik, "You are still going to try to talk with her right?" Then taking control of the spot light on the Rover he aims it at Valeriya and flashes it on and off so she knows which vehicle he is in.
Its a bright morning but even so the spotlight is easily noticed. Valeriya's course changes immediately, descending on the rover to land off the side of the road beside. There she can let down the robots. Also now that she is closer her pets can be seen on her shoulders. Their smell can also be noted, most foul.
Sithik gives a respectful bow of his head. "I did say I would speak with her due to the video and radio recording you presented me with. You have my word, I will not initiate any violence." then climbs out of the vehicle as she lands nearby, his attire much different than usual, much more concealing. The smell is noticed once outside the vehicle, but nothing is said right off.
Tek climbs out in his cyclops armor and says both over the radio and external speaker, "Sithik is with me, though after I showed him the video he agreed to speak with you peacefully." with that he approaches and raises the visor to his armor so his face can be seen.
Valeriya is surprised to see Sithik exit the vehicle. Startled even. After all, shes clothed in shreds of a normally thin armor after one fight for her life. And immediately after she's facing someone decently powerful who she almost killed. The fates clearly enjoy their games.. "Um hi." She manages for a start.
Sithik removes his hood and veil to be seen plainly. No bow of his head as usually shown to those he meets. "Tek has explained some things to me, most of it making sense. He tells me you were not yourself that day in the Dregs. I too was not acting in the manner of my nature. However, I would like to hear for myself, your take on the event and where you stand now."
Tek smiles as he sees this is not going to fall apart once more and remains quiet and to the side as the two talk about events.
Valeriya nods slowly, taking a few moments to reorient and choose her words. "Alright, well I had entered into the scene of an argument between two factions that looked like it could get ugly. I've been curious about the DBees getting unsettled of late so I approached to see if I might learn more. But before I could speak I saw you lash out at the dbees. Admittedly this wasn't desirable, I couldn't understand your reasons. Immediately after I filled with inconsolable rage at you for the betrayal and was compelled to make you realize your err very brutally. So I did, being far from fair in the fight that followed."
Sithik listens giving a nod as she finishes, "I felt a similar rage toward the spiders when they raised their weapons. I couldn't explain why you attacked in return, unless you were one of them. Now that it appears we have been manipulated somehow, where do you stand? Will you be an obstacle, aid, or inconsequential as I go after those that manipulated us? They must be put in check or else innocents could be harmed next time they play their games."
Tek continues to remain silent as the two discuss the situation and their respective places in the upcoming events.
Valeriya shrugs with clear indecision. "I'm not sure yet. I agree about the risks you sight. But I'm not convinced going after them can change any of that. Assuming they are not extremely short sighted it stands to reason that going after them is exactly what they want. And doing so lets them use us further." She explains her gaze gaining focus. "Could be they are just short sighted fools, but if so, they are not a real threat. If not, I'll need more information before I make a decision to act."
Sithik nods acknowledging her standing, "What more do you need to make this decision? I have all I need to know to make mine, now I only need the information required to act. So far, I know where they hide. It won't be long before I have what I need to act."
Tek looks between them and continues to stand back, "I was just out giving Sithik some more training on the use of sensory equipment. I will just be over here." with that Tek turns and walks over closer to his Land Rover.
Valeriya is on the side of the road, robot carcasses twitching on either side of her. Her armor is barely holding together, leaving patches of skin not intended by its design. "I would wait for the leader to make an appearance before getting too involved with thugs. Then If I wish to send a message I know it will be delivered as intended." She says to Sithik, relaxing a bit to cross her arms. One her shoulders her pets perch. And their is a very foul odor in her vicinity.
Sithik does't really react one way or the other to Val's suggestion, probably just confident he knows what he is doing. "Not intended as a threat, but, as long as you stay out of my way, all is forgotten. Otherwise, a rematch is inevitable. And I will be ready next time."
Leonard emerges from the gates on foot and without blatantly apparent armor, one or more of which could be of some surprise. His steps are casual, at least until he notices those along the road. A brow lifts at Valeriya and her worn state... or perhaps he is downwind. "Out enjoying yourselves, are we?"
Valeriya shrugs indifferently. "Do as you will. I have no reason to interfere. Should that change I'll give you the courtesy of an explanation at least." She agrees before eying him further. "I was hoping to be able to offer compensation for what my outbursts cost you though. But Recent events have delayed that intention somewhat." She adds before regarding Leonards with a nod. "As always."
Sithik offers a respectful bow of his head as she explains the courtesy she will offer. The mention of compensation gets a curious tilt of his head, "I was not expecting compensation, nor expect it. I have been curious of the moving parts at your feet however."
Tek walks over when he sees Leonard walk up. As he nears he overhears Sithik mention the robots at her feet and he really perks up, "I am also curious about them." he gives a friendly nod to Leonard in greeting.
"Outbursts?" Leonard's curiosity shifts between the two of them before he chuckles. "What did I miss? Aside from more threats of bodily harm, of course." He gestures to Valeriya and the remains near her.
Valeriya shrugs. "Trespassers. Had their own intentions on what to do with private property. Got lucky and nearly blasted me away in one volley. Promptly educated them on the folly of that. Going to see if what remains is worth anything to anyone. Should be I think."
Sithik offers a bow of his head to Leonard now that he has finished his business with Valeriya. The conversation now turning to Tek's expertise, he turns his attention on the mechanic to see what he has to say of the scrap.
Tek smiles and nods to the robots, "Well I would need to go over them with some equipment at the shop to be able to give a guess on what they are worth. I would be interested in them but I am a bit lite on credits after having just purchased Uncommon Mechanics as well as a rather expensive vehicle for an investment. I would be happy to take a look if you would like?"
Leonard returns the nods of acknowledgement and greetings, paying little more mind to the metal remnants. "If there's value in them, I'm sure that he can confirm it," a wave of his hand to Tek before he approaches Valeriya to extend it in offer to aid her to stand, "and that you'll exploit it. Hopefully it will cover your expenses for educating them... or any other related outbursts." A smirk follows.
"That would be nice." Valeriya agrees to Leonard and Tek simultaneously. "I'll keep one at least for you t5o look at after the escort job coming up Tek." She agrees before eying the hand Leonard is offering. "Do I look that bad?" She asks, some concern in her tone.
Sithik is content with listening quietly for the most part, this not being his area in any form, but, having other things to do, he looks to Tek, "Shouldn't we get back to training? I have other obligations I need to attend to still."
Tek smiles to Valeriya and nods, "Well that sounds good." then turning to Sithik, "Yea, no problem at all. Let's get back to it." turning back to Leonard and Valeriya, "I will see you two later." with that Tek turns to head back over to his Land Rover.
"You look strong enough," Leonard answers her with a slight shrug, "if that is your meaning. Still, no reason against offering... aside from the stench."His smirk grows. "Perhaps I should help you to a bath before anywhere else."
Valeriya shrugs. "Its just my boots, and these two." She counters with a gesture to the pets. "Raining smelly alien goo rarely has a positive outcome. But a bath does sound good. I'm going to continue on for that. Catch you after?" She offers, her focus on Leonard as the others take their leave.
Sithik turns from the others with just a nod, to return to the vehicle to continue his training. Climbing up into the passenger seat once again, he sets everything up and awaits Tek to get rolling. "We will have to find a new target to hunt down. Or another way to test what I have learned."
Tek jumps back into the Rover and starts it up, "Well then pull up the options and I will pick another one for you to test your skills on."
Leonard chuckles and nods to her, the others already forgotten as they moved off. "I look forward to it, and shouldn't be long." Perhaps his excursion will even be brief enough to catch her earlier than planned. "Try to avoid any other goo-spouting murderous aliens on the way," he adds in wry advice before leaving her to tend to pets and hygiene.
Valeriya nods and recollects her mechanical harvest before resuming her flight south into the city.
Sithik pulls up the radar, though not eliminating any potential targets this time, and waits for Tek to pick something out to seek out. "Call it and I'll get you to it."
Tek looks over the different targets on the screen and picks a small ground craft near the airfield, "That one there should work. Just point me in the right direction."
Sithik nods and goes to figuring out which way to head. "Looks like we head back into town. The airstrip maybe. It's stationary now." and he does remember this time to check for active radar, though at the moment none is noticed.
Tek smiles and nods, "Back to the landing strip then." with that the Rover starts off back toward the front gate.
Sithik keeps an eye on the screen, the target seeming to just sit there and wait while the pair make their way back. This looks like its going to be easy so far, they still have a ways to go to get back though, things can always change.
Getting to the front gate Tek pulls the Rover into the line of traffic that is leading into the city and starts heading towards the landing strip as soon as they are through the gate, "So which way?"
Sithik notes movement of the target while they wait in traffic to get through the gate, for now it is still near the landing strip, but moving fast southward. "Head by your place, looks like its going that way, should be able to catch it near there."
Tek starts off towards the south end where the businesses are, "So what all systems are you using to identify your target, and how are you using them?"
Sithik points it out as he explains, "Well I'm following the targets direction with the Radar, I've turned on radar detection to see if the target is using active radar. The navigational aid I am using to anticipate our course through the streets. Right now just follow the main road down and we should intercept it unless it changes course, there is no where else for it to go except turn our way. Still out of range for optics to get a visual just yet, but I have them pointed in the right direction for now."
Tek smiles and nods at his students progress, "That is excellent. Have you checked altitude lately?"
Sithik gives a shake of his head being it's been ground level all this time, but now that its been pointed out he notices. "What?! Its gained fifty feet and climbing." not being too familiar with vehicles in general, this comes as a surprise. Rechecking his calculations, "I think we're going to have to turn around." Radar detection is signaled as the vehicle being hunted passes the main road it should've turned on at 200 feet and into the city. "Yup, thing just went over the wall and descending, I think we're going to lose it once behind the wall. That was not expected."
Tek chuckles and nods with approval, "See if you had been on top of it you could have switched over to the weapons optics and zoomed in to get a look at it. You have no doubt noticed my hover tow truck at the shop, that was almost the same thing except it is more for moving equipment and things for the personnel that run the landing strip." pulling back up to Uncommon Mechanics Tek adds, "Well that is the lesson for today. Swing on by the shop whenever you want to test out these skills. I think you did very well today."
Sithik sighs, not as pleased as his teacher with the lesson, "I am still forgetting things. I will be here daily to practice, until I have it perfect, without hesitation. thank you again, I appreciate the time spent. If you ever have time and the bravery to take a walk into the Dregs, I have a spot I would like you to look at. See what catches your senses when there. Of course I will be there to make sure no one harasses you. Look poor and you tend to do well in the Dregs."
Tek nods in understanding as you talk about the lesson but then it changes to a shake of the head as the dregs are brought up, "I will go with you, but I try not to head into the dregs unless I am in my armor. But I have some crusader armor if you think that would be a better choice? But what is it you are wanting me to look at?
Sithik gives a unimportant shake of his head, "Just a spot down there I found, no rush. I'll let you know if it becomes a rush."
Tek smiles and nods, "Sounds good. I am sure we will talk soon. I know you have errands to run. And please do come by and practice whenever you want. I bought the shop now so I am always here."
