Player Death

On CoK there are several different ways that a PC can leave the grid. Most common would include, death during a TP while the PC bravely saves the rest of the party... Or something less heroic. Perhaps in a PC vs. PC dual or conflict. Or maybe the PC just doesn't fit the player, and it is retired. Or the PC and player choose to leave the game. All are viable options. We try to talk about them below.

PC vs. PC Death

The world of Rifts can be a very dangerous place to live. Many people are killed, maimed, and vanish every day. While this is a not always the case, it should impress upon one that it is not a world were you normally can say 'no stop' and have people listen. Normally, you have to say 'NO STOP! Or I'll kill you!'.. Of course one better have the ability to back it up.

Please understand that on this game, there is no consent for someone to hunt you down and kill you. Be it for some slight of social etiquette or just because they didn't like the way you looked, someone may try to kill you. Or you may try to kill them. It does go both ways. The staff is not trying to encourage this type of behavior, just make sure that everyone who players here knows nothing is forever and death can come swiftly and for no reason.

With this said, sometimes there are player vs player (PvP) events. Where a player chooses to hunt someone down and kill them. Please make sure there is a log or that a staff member is present to witness the scene unfold. This is very important, otherwise there could be a he said she said incident which the staff really do not like at all. It is suggested that one of the participants uses +staffcall to see if any staff members are online and can witness the scene.

If your PC is killed and there are no means to resurrect it, or the player decides to leave the character dead, than you will be awarded anywhere from 0-50 percent of your current EXP depending upon how well the scene is Role-played. This is subject to change.

Lastly, remember what goes around comes around. And the city of Kingsdale tends to execute those responsible for murder and in these days of magic and psionics they always seem to figure it out.

It is important to note that players can and will die as a result of IC actions as well. Like a pen and paper RPG, bad rolls of the dice happen.

When a PC is killed in the course of IC actions, they may be awarded 0% to 50% of their current XP to give to new PC of that player's.

Self-Inflicted Retirement

Sometimes during the course of player, a player decide his or her current character is not be in their interest to play any longer. Sometimes, this is because a particular PC didn't fit the player's idea, or they are choosing to leave the game.

The staff puts work into each new PC, but sometimes things don't work out. We feel bad about it, but that happens. To make sure the system is not abused, we use a few guidelines in cases such as these.

We will take most cases on a case by case biases. But the following are the general guidelines:

A PC may not pass possessions to another PC, unless there is a VERY strong IC reason.
A PC may be awarded 0% to 25% of their current EXP acquired.

Normally, the character passes out into oblivion and a new character may come back into being.

Important Note

Just like in a table top game, PCs wouldn't normally IC'ly give their equipment to other PCs.

It is important to note, that if the staff finds a PC was intentionally created to give away wealth to another PC, or when a PC is leaving and tries to OOC'ly give other equipment to another PC, the staff will consider this a violation of the spirit of the game. And the staff will take action, this could include a minor removal or permanent ban.
