PLAZA PARK: Plans for Revenge
It is evening at the park, the sun nearly vanished below the horizon. Atop one of the many benches encircling the lake, Daeni is perched, having chosen the seat back in lieu of a tree branch or swim within the lake, itself. She faces towards the waters and the dying light, observing both instead of those few who remain or venture in the park.
Having had something on her mind, Sage has come to the park to try to think things through as she wanders. A thoughtful frown coming to her features, only occasionally glancing around to check on her surroundings.
Gabriel wanders in off of Main Street and makes his way toward his elfin friend, noting Sage, who is more distant. Interesting information that he's learned about the woman, but he's accepted it at this point. He approaches Daeni silently, though obviously it would never be a surprise.
Daeni appears unaware of the approach, in that her gaze remains upon whatever holds her interest. This remains so until she speaks, without otherwise moving. "Hello, Gabriel." Perhaps she possess eyes in the back of her head.
Eventually, Sage seems to settle for the presence of familiar people as she makes her way around towards the two people she spotted on her last glance around. "Hey..." She says with a subdued tone as she looks between Gabriel and Daeni.
Having heard exactly what he'd expected, Gabriel can only smile. His small body pulls up next to Daeni, looking absurd in comparison, probably. However, he does maintain a respectful distance. As the woman tends to the subdued side, he offers just a, "Good evening, Daeni," A slightly more boisterous smile and wave is offered as Sage nears. "Hi, Sage. Coming home from work, or headed to a late night?"
"Hello." The second voice and greeting causes Daeni to turn her head towards Sage before it is returned. For Gabriel's benefit, she adds, "Night is new, not late."
"It'll probably be a long night either way." Sage replies softly, before offering a weak smile that falters soon enough.
"Quite right, my indestructible friend," Gabriel says easily to Daeni, his accent sliding into prominence as the day draws to a close. "It's been a day, yes? I actually had interesting things to do today." His head is then turned so that his eyes focus on the tall elf. "You?"
"Only hunt," Daeni explains. "Not find prey." This might explain her lack of boisterous demeanor, if she possessed such. As it is, she is, perhaps, more somber than the norm. "Fled as coward, escaped. Will find in time, when not have Tirzah protect."
The mention of her partner's name draws Sage's interest quickly despite her earlier fugue, "Tirzah?" She asks, "What do you mean? What happened?" She asks, moving closer to the elven huntress. "Who fled?" She can't help but let the questions tumble out.
"Ahhh.." Gabriel's right eye quirks up and his left shoulder raises a little. "I'm sorry, my dear elf, but I have to agree with the young woman. Except she seems to have some idea of what you're talking about. I'm not even following your grammar, my friend."
Daeni lifts a hand to wave it towards areas deeper in the city as her eyes return to Sage. "The shadow think is god, but is only words. Woman who give you child fight him, he make Tirzah fight her. She use magic to lift, kill, then lift me. Shadow flee with Tirzah before I kill."
"Shadow..." Sage says as if to herself, "Make Tirzah fight?" She frowns faintly, "And he took her?... that would explain why she didn't come home..." She pauses, lost in thought for a moment. She takes a moment before looking to Daeni. "Do you know where he went?"
Gabriel's head bobs once. "That guy. They call it the 'Legend of Sleepy Hollow' where I come from. I don't really know why they told it to the kids, except to scare the shit out us at the plight of Ichabod Crane." His musings go somewhat spoken into the ether, but his mind is still working on the present. He then shakes his head as he tries to make sense of Daeni's words which seem to more grunted and monosyllabic than usual. "Okay, that guy, Ahriman, right? Tirzah. *WHY* did they fight? What started it?" He looks Daeni up and down. "You're here. Who isn't?"
"No." Daeni shakes her head in the negative and a growl inflects her words. "If did, would have his head in hand or hang from tree." She subsequently nods to Gabriel. "Ahriman does not scare, is not legend. Is empty words, want others fear. Is only power." Her shoulders roll. "Not see fight begin. Only know Ahriman angry others not act as slave, think him a god."
The man from the past sighs, contemplating momentarily. "Sometimes these people who are self-proclaimed gods can be very dangerous. Hirohito in Japan, Amenemhet in ancient Egypt, Columbus on discovering the New World - all self-proclaimed gods, and people believe them. It's only arrogance if you're wrong." His gaze shoots over to Sage quickly beneath lowered lashes. In a softer voice, "Anyone seen or heard from Tirzah since then?" Gabriel doesn't sound hopeful, but wishful.
Daeni rolls her shoulders in another shrug. "Not see, not know. Maybe both hide, fear I will find." She returns her attention to the darkening water. "Will find, kill him, drag carcass through city. Know is not god, prove to others."
Sage takes a breath and lets it out, "I will likely be doing much searching with my psychic senses until a more concrete way of investigating comes forth..." She comments before glancing to Daeni. "If Tirzah is hiding in fear, she's mine to handle... you can have the dark one." She comments, before looking to Gabriel.
Gabriel stares down at the ground for a while, the shadows now beginning to lengthen into infinity. "I don't kill a man - or a woman - until I have a reason. If I have a reason," his head turns an he shrugs a little. "Where I come from, at least, people used to disappear. In the meantime.." he turns to look up to sage. "I do sneak. I do steal. I do learn. I do rescue. Perhaps with a creature of this magnitude, my skills might be better put toward assisting you, Sage. I'm not a tank." He then shrugs slowly. "But if you'd rather I keep my nose out of it, I understand."
"Have reason," Daeni snorts. "Is liar, coward,..." She pauses to collect a colloquialism. "ass." Her American vernacular is grossly incomplete, yet even a literal definition may be appropriate.
Sage's expression becomes hard to read as she considers the man's words before drawing herself up a little bit and stepping towards the man slightly. "At this point, your offer is out and can't be taken back..." She states simply before relaxing away from the moment. "And anything you could find would be appreciated." She gives a sigh before looking between the two. "I should probably start preparing for my own investigation of sorts..." She comments, "Anything else either of you have to add before I head off?"
The older man shakes his head, one of those, "I hope it's not so bad but we all know that it it" shakes. He only speaks, "Good luck, Sage. I'll be in communication with you." His eyes then close, and his head bows a bit, his hands not coming together, but nearing each other, and he says, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." Gabriel's eyes turn back to the younger woman. "Good luck."
Daeni nods to Sage, firmly. "Tell Tirzah not protect him. If she does, her head off first. Not let her stop me when find." In light of the results from before, Daeni is not about to make the same misjudgment a second time.
Sage gives a nod to the the man, "Please do." She comments simply before looking over towards Daeni with a considering look. "Alright..." She replies, not sounding too pleased but having a sense of the practicality, "I certainly hope that wont come to pass, though." She comments, before she moves off with a "Take care."
"Daeni, what exactly *IS* that guy, Ahriman, anyway? I mean, yes, I made fun of the 'Legend of Sleepy Hollow' but he is really fucking strange." Gabriel just states a blunt fact. "Not know," Daeni does not even bother to shrug, "not care. Think all are weak, he is strong. Is very wrong. Some know this, fight him, even if are weak human. See many strange thing here, fear none."
Gabriel appears to be more confused than normal by his huntress friends' speech today. In an attempt to keep the conversation going, hopefully guiding it back into some kind of grammar that doesn't leave him behind, he offers another nugget of ancient knowledge: "You have to go into the jungle, find the lion, and spit in his face... then shoot him." He then meaningfully turns his gaze to Daeni. "But you can't just walk into the jungle shooting, because he'll hear you coming, and he'll either get away, or more than likely, he'll come to kill you. There are better ways."
Daeni snorts and turns towards him, now bearing a scowl. In case her visage was overlooked, she leans to bring it adamantly closer to him. "Will stalk, kill. Maybe will skin, leave flesh for worms. If he run, will chase, catch, end same. If he come to me, is same. Think he will run, like before. He is coward."
Gabriel offers a toothless smile, apparently unconcerned. Does he think she's kidding? Does he think she's not but he thinks he can take her? Is he just an idiot? Who knows. Maybe he just knows who he is. He certainly has the years of life to have developed a good sense of that. "Before you attempt to beat the odds, be sure you could survive the odds beating you." He offers a tilt of his head. "An old saying from my time." The distant colonel then offers a final, "Yeah, I'm sure that you could try to kill him. I'm sure you have a better chance of doing it than anyone else." That's right. "Better chance," not an absolute.
"Not if sit, talk, when could hunt." Daeni abruptly straightens and dismounts from the bench. Whether Gabriel touched upon a raw nerve or merely reminded her of the current lack of success, she transforms her annoyance into motivation and action. "If find him, you warn him that he die." Daeni begins to stride away, vocalizing a consideration as she does so, "Maybe best cut out lying tongue, first..."
The man stands and stretches, looking up and commenting, "Blue moon tonight, isn't it? Second full moon in a month?" Gabriel just waves to Daeni's back and offers what he always says to women of all types and ages: "Stay safe, Daeni. Good luck."
