UNCOMMON MECHANICS
There's a *tingly-tingly!* at the door as it opens and Gabriel walks in. No real winter gear today, just poking his head in for reasons unknown. He makes sure to close the door behind himself. No, he's dressed quite differently, but still smiling.
Tek is at a table that looks like he has taken over. Tablets with diagrams and papers lays about though organized. A portable computer sits open as well. Hearing the door he looks up, "Hey Gabriel, hows it going? Come on in.", smiling he waves you over to the table
A few steps - okay, he's short, more than a few steps - take Gabriel into the working bay and toward the resident mechanic. "Tek! Thanks for letting me use the place last night. Really didn't have anywhere else to do it but Val's, and well... it was best to do it here."
Tek waves it off, "Really it was nothing. What brings you today?" a smile spreads across Tek's face.
"Oh, just thought I'd stop by. Still can't afford those mods yet; had to use the money to rent the guys who are going to operate the containment system," Gabriel says happily as if it were getting set up for a party. "They wanted money, and since I couldn't guarantee anything after? Out came my wallet."
Tek nods, "No worries. Jaxain just dropped off a couple nice weapons for a few mods. Ohh and just so you know I have never fought a vampire yet not sure how well I will do against one."
Gabriel waves it off. "I'm certainly no expert. But I do know my way around a battlefield. As long as I can adapt to necessary tactics, I hope that I'm of some use. Speaking of use... that stuff you do with your mind. Taking over and messing with machines from a distance. Just how technical does it get?"
Tek smiles and motions to an open seat, "Well that all depends on what you are talking about. Like machine I can take them over completely even have a good chance to do so even with a pilot at the controls. But I cannot do it to one with artificial intelligence. Computers again I can access at a couple different levels the easiest is to get just look only access but the other allows me to have a chance to modify things. Do you have something specific in mind?"
"Yeah. What about a cyborg? Maybe you can't take over their mind... but can you get in enough to fuck with their systems? Freeze joints, blow hydraulics, whatever? Shut them down permanently or temporarily?" Gabriel quirks a brow. Even after just over a year, he really has very little understanding of how magic and psionics work. Those should still just be parlor tricks, in his mind.
Tek shakes his head, "No unfortunately I can't effect cybernetics that are implanted into someone. If they are not I can but something about the merging makes it so I can't."
Gabriel's face falls a little with the news, but only a little. "Ah, well. Just a thought. Sebastien seems to think that we'll have to deal with some cyborg security. But, Val says that she can handle that. I was just looking for an alternative." He changes the subject slightly, asking, "How do you feel about the plan? Too many good people in the way to get hurt?"
Tek chuckles, "Good people? Really? After all the publicity anyone who will be there is there with full knowledge of what goes on there. Now I will not take it into the street where innocent bystanders could get hit. Other than that I am not real good at strategy."
"Good," Gabriel states flatly. "I hope that doesn't cloud Sebastien's mind. But for you, if we're in the streets, we've already lost. Probably dead, too."
Tek smiles, "To be honest I am hoping there are a lot of things in there worth many credits."
That *is* something that makes Gabriel... not frown, but not really react to in an odd manner. "There are a lot of people looking for credits in doing what's necessary, that's true. I'm sure that there will be things to steal, although I gave my word to Val that she gets first dibs on everything. Everything. I needed an important and necessary favor for the job, and that's how I'm repaying her." He sets his briefcase on the ground, but keeps it near his legs. "What if I'd said there was no money in it? That your armor might take some hits, and you drain clip? Still go, or stay home, Tek?"
Tek sighs, "Look I am not Robin Hoodwinker. I don't take from the rich to give to anyone. I am just a guy out looking to make enough credits to own my very own set of power armor and eventually a robot vehicle if I can. I am ok with not having first dibs. So long as I get my cut that will be enough for me."
"If there's a cut, you'll get your cut. Everybody gets an equal cut of whatever's there, to do with as you please." Gabriel nods, and clearly he means it. "Except for Valeriya. She gets what she can carry. Otherwise, I'm just happy to have everyone along. Remember, if you're going to bring weapons along, *hide* them. Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to get a short distance into the club before things start really flying."
Tek nods, "I would like to go in before hand and be off to the side with the other patrons. That way I will already have a full idea of how the system works and what I will need to do to get it down. Also there might be tougher security on her system than expected. This will give me time to hack through it. What do you think?"
Gabriel crosses his arms and thinks for a moment, looking at the mechanic. Then offers his advice, with his Kentucky drawl rather strong, as it tends to be when he hands on important opinions. "I understand what you're saying, and it makes sense. You could probably go in and ask for a lap dance near the door without anyone being the wiser. *But.* All of this needs to work, and the most critical part is making it go *BOOM* before anyone knows that we're there." He holds out an explanatory hand. "Point being, what if - somehow - someone got interested in what you were doing? Maybe even somehow knew what you were doing? Unless you think that you can avoid prying questions, it would likely be better to stay outside and do what you can from there. If that isn't an option? Then you'll go inside." He pauses before asking, "Thoughts?"
Tek nods as you explain, "I understand. I can try from outside but if I am not close enough I could go in and try to blend. I was thinking of using the bathroom and going into a stall when I actually go into the system. I was thinking that would be the best place to go unnoticed."
"I don't know where the system is, exactly, is the problem," Gabriel explains freely, admitting his shortcomings. "Maybe you'll have to walk around before you can get in range. I'm still looking to see who put in the system, but it's a little difficult to walk around asking questions like that without being noticed." He then rolls his eyes. Not at Tek, but at society in general. "Unfortunately, that's the kind of unprofessional, amateur work that I need to deal with. However -" his eyes sparkle as he points to the other man "- I'm not dead yet."
