From Chronicles
Valeriya is at the range ahead of schedule, doing some more practice with her rifle. She also appears to have some new toys. Particularly a new vambrace that addorns her wrist for extra protection. Also, an odd old fashioned lamp hangs beside her.
Bartholemew meets up at the firing range despite the miserable weather. After picking up some practice rounds from the main office, he heads out to the booth Val has already started in. "Howdy."
"Heya." Valeriya greets, putting down her rifle to take out the c-5 for the lesson. "So how are you progressing so far?" She then asks as she starts to load hers up with more practice rounds.
Bartholemew sets down his extra gear off to the side, "Doin alright, the kick still gives me trouble when aiming direct shots. The area shots I can hit much better. I'm gettin quicker with the reloads too, but thats an easy one to practice." he chuckles, "So, whats today's lesson gonna be?" pulling out his own C-5 out to load it up with the practice rounds.
Valeriya nods to Bart with a grin. "Yeah, not an especially direct weapon this one. Though if you have it a close range, someone's getting hurt." She comments before gesutring to her own fresh ly loaded c-5. "Well I figure after we empty a clip to review the last lesson we can pay some attention to the maintenance the c-5 should recive regularly."
Bartholemew gives a sharp affirmative nod, sliding the clip into place once loaded, moving over to where he can get a good line of fire down the field. "Sounds good. So hows the school been doin?"
"Excellant." Valeriya replies before her c-5 booms with her first shot. After which she holds it a moment so she can finish her answer. "Just finished another lesson actually. and got this gadget in exchange plus to more on the way." She says and resumes with another shot at her next target. "I also made the lamps I mentioned to you a few months ago. 15 foot protection that will damage any vampire that approaches. 4000 credits each."
Bartholemew pauses before taking his first shot turning his head her way with a grin, "Awesome! I'll be wantin one of those, maybe more. There's a raid in the works." Then turns his attention back to the targets out on the field and fires, the shell landing between two targets, not enough to kill em probably, but it still woulda hurt.
Valeriya nods as she fires her third shot and goes wide of her target, showing no one is perfect. She pays it no heed though, continuing the conversation. "I have seven of them available for purchase and I can make more easily enough, one a day." She offers in return before firing another shot from her clip. "The damage they do isnt a lot with a single lamp. But if you have a group of three or more people holding them and keeping within fifteen feet of each other it becomes very significant. Also, they never go out. The fires in them cant be extinguished."
Bartholemew fires two more shots in rapid succession, tearing one target up from a direct shot, the second missing but landing close to another target on the field. "I'd prolly want five. Is it something that need magic to activate or recharge?"
Valeriya fires her last shot in the clip, and nails her last target in the head with a very satisfactory boom. After which the lowers her smoking c-5 to take a break and shakes her head with a grin. "Nope, no magic knowledge or ability required. Thats what I meant about the flames, once I make them, they stay lit, forever."
Bartholemew fires twice more, splitting his targets between two on opposite sides of the field. Both go down which brings a smile to the soldiers face. Turning from the range he pops the clip out of his weapon, "Those fire grenades ya make, I want to get a few of those too from ya. I'm sure they make good vampire killers. Anything else goin on interstin?"
Valeriya shakes her head at that idea. "Fire isnt that great against vampires actually. Magic fire has half the effect it would on a normal target. And in the case of the globes, they could turn to mist to escape them before the damage became significant. Your best weapons against vamps are water and stakes." She explains before turning to pull out her c-5's cleaning kit.
Bartholemew tilts his head slightly with the information, then gives a shake of his head "I still got alot to learn about killin the blood suckers then. What else should I know about vamps? Like, what hurts the mist?" moving over to be able to see what she is about to do with the cleaning process.
"Direct sunlight, water, the shadow of a cross." Valeriya answers simply as she lays down her c-5 and opens her kit in prep. "Wire brush, air canister, lubrication canister." She states in the same simple tone, gesturing to the tools of the kit. With these you can clean and maintin the c-5 in brand new condition."
Bartholemew gives a nod, one for each answer. "Ok, so hows this puppy come apart?" sounding a bit eager to get started, the clip already being dropped from the weapon. "Oh, did you hear about some power or something appearing round here?"
Valeriya dshakes her head in answer to his question of power. "Nope, been a bit busy with my other business." She says and starts demonstrating how to disassemble the c-5. "Its a lot simpler than a rifle. Other than the clip the only other part to remove is the breach." She explains before showing the lock that allow the breach to be slid open and off of the weapon. With its absence the comlete iner workings are exposed. "Techincly you could go further than this to take out the smaller parts in the trigger assembly, but with the porper use of the brush and the compressed air that is really not necessary."
Bartholemew nods as he follows her instructions and slides the breach off. With the weapon in three pieces, he sets the clip on the small counter in the booth. As he studies the insides of the weapon, now that they are exposed, angling the available light to see better at times, "Yeah, heard a rumor out there about some power or energy fading in an out someplace nearby, I couldn't find it though. If you didn't hear anything I'm guessin its probably nothin."
"Could be something. Want me to tke a look?" Valeriya asks as she lays out her parts as well. "Cleaning tip number one. Start cleaning with the gun completely dry. If you're in a hurry, put it in an oven on low for an hour. That will insure all the moisture is out and make the dirt much easier to remove. Other than that once its disassembled you can get right to scouring every accessable nanometer of the gun with the brush. Squeeze the trigger a few times in this to rotate the parts so you get them all."
Bartholemew listens to her explain the process, taking mental note of the tip, "If you could, it might be worth something. I got something else I need to talk to you about, an item I acquired. Can't talk about it here though. Has to be secure, but I think you'll find it interesting."
Valeriya nods in understanding. "The school is secure, just upgraded." She offers as she takes the brush to her c-5 just as described. A few minutes later she hase the first pice scoured and takes up the air can. "Tip number two, dirt goes out the same way it goes in. Start with the trigger assemply, puting the nozzle under the trigger to blow the dirt out into the breach. Wiggle it a bit so you get it all. Then move the the breach and blow the dirt out both forward and back. And lastly to the magazing chamber, blowing the diry out."
Bartholemew picks up the brush, but continues to watch her using the air can at first before he starts the brush scrubbing part with his own weapon, still glancing between his weapon and hers to keep an eye on what she is doing during her step. "Good, I'm looking into a building myself to store equipment and vehicles in. Also big enough to provide housing when the time comes. Was thinkin an old farm or something and build a compound on the land."
Valeriya nods in approval to the acquiring of land. "Sounds good." She agrees and take a moment to brush out her breach and magazine so Bart can catch up. She follows with hte air in the same principle. Once Bart is ready she take up the spray lubircant. "Now the most important tip. A little, is too much. The more of this you use the more often and difficult the cleaning is." She explains and demonstrates on the trigger assembly. She dressses the can's trigger for a small fraction of a second then puts it down in exchange for the air can. The she alternates between squeezing trigger and using the air can to dsitribute the very small amound of lubricant used in the area.
Bartholemew pays a bit more attention to her during this third process, noticing the technique involved to do it properly. He does move on using the air can between the times she is using it to distribute the lube. "Are you able to summon creatures like some other magic types I've seen?"
Valeriya shakes her head to that. "I dont. But I could learn it from one who can. Tricky thing though. Such a spell or ritual uses up a lot of power, and is not always a good investment. The best arrangement of such I know of is with warlocks. The second would be magic constructs. Actual summoning of demons is not a very efficient of safe practice." She offers in reply as she takes up the lube again. and again very sparingly she uses it on the breach, following with a wipe of a cloth and a blast frome the aire gun.
Bartholemew takes a bit to catch up to the lubrication phase of the process, being he is sharing the air can with the teacher. "I'm thinkin of somethin that can provide leverage maybe. Something problematic, easily controllable, but a nuisance to those it is unleashed on." When he does finally get the weapon all blown out and get to lubricating things, he's a bit less delicate than Val was. His judgment on a little is slightly off. The frustration showing on his face.
Valeriya smirks at Bart's attempts in an offer of consolation. "Relax, take your time. The best thing to do if you put in too much lube is bake it and start over with the lube step." She explains for a simple solution before nodding to Bart. "Well then elementals would be ideal. Easily controlable and easily devastating to the enemy. One phantom air elemental would easily be a match for a handful of cs soldiers. And differnt elements offer different benefits. A water elemental would be ideal against vampires."
Bartholemew grins, the look in his eye giving signs the wheels are turning in his head as he uses the air can to spread out the excess of lubricant through the weapon. "Makes sense, how long do ya think before ya know how to do something like that?"
Valeriya shrugs and looks uncertain. "I dont know. Hasnt really been a priority for me. I mentioned when I explained my ability the need for secrecy. People dont like to share their secrets. Thats especially true for warlocks. Their type of magic is like a religion to them. They worship these elementals. So if I steal that from them, could be risky. Not the type of people I want to antagonize. Not without a good plan."
Bartholemew gives an understanding nod, "Well ya know I got your back if need be." moving the weapon into different angles to help the air spread the oil better. "This is a pain if your not careful. I see why ya would just bake it off and start over."
Valeriya nods to Bart on both parts. "I know you do. Its just not something I want to delve into unless I can be sure it will be worth the risk. Or until I find another route to it. I wish i knew where Leonard was. he could be of great help."
Bartholemew gives a chuckle, "I know where he is. Sage and Lite Brite are taking care of him. Well, thats what I heard anyways." The lube isn't perfect, but its the best that its gonna get for now, till he can get to an oven and start over.
Valeriya raises her brow. "Lite brite?" She asks, not following at all as she starts putting her c-5 back together. "I'll have to go give him a visit, and a hard time. What happened?"
Bartholemew replies giving the inside of the weapon one last check before showing it to Val for her approval or not. "The flashy showgirl, Rubidyia, Lite brite. Leonard took a big hit and I'm not sure if he was able to get himself fixed up, but I heard Sage and Ruby were taking care of him. He could prolly teach ya how to do that magic trick, he had all kinds of crazy magic tricks up his sleeve. Last I saw him though, he lost both arms and both legs."
Valeriya gives a low whistle and shakes her head. "No simple magic trcik to fix that. Now i'll definitely have to go see him. Enjoy your c-5." She bids and collects herself to be on her way without further ado.
