Newton Tech Industries
From Chronicles
History
Newton Technological Industries is largely an enigma when it comes to its own history. Details are generally very scanty and it is said that those who pry too deeply go missing very quickly. What little is known about the company is that it was founded in 104 PA as 'Cyberdyne Engineering' by a Jim Walby as a software design and 'freelance research' company operating out of a small office building on Steel Street. In a matter of not quite three years it has gone from a poorly funded and staffed operation to a multimillion (some say multi-billion) arms production and research corporation. Their success was due to them attracting the interest of Ishpeming Multi-Billionaire George Newton who transformed that company along with Omega Labs, another smaller R&D firm into the giant that it is today.
Most believe that their success is due to massive grants from the city but darker rumors of George Newton stumbling onto Alien Technology have surfaced. Indeed, during the Manhunter Incursion of 105 to 106 PA, Newtech brought online 'OPSaDOS' online on Febuary 26th 105 PA -- an artificial intelligence meant to head their research and development programs. Newtech is quite honest in that she has Manhunter circuitry in her construction but has 'rigidly defined ethics'
Nonetheless, as the company becomes more and more cut-throat and advanced many wonder if it is George Newton, or OPSaDOS that truly pulls the strings.
Personal Body Armor
Shortly after their initial attack, a local mercenary unit provided NTI with a pair of alien robots for study. After analyzing the armor compounds that protected them, NTI developed ‘Ronanotium’ – an advanced metal alloy.
Much stronger than many heavier materials, it is an ideal compound to forge body armor from and it did not take NTI to come out with two designs. All three are almost identical in look, but the lighter NTI-BA-1 suit does not have a heavier, secondary layer of protective weave. The BA-1 and BA-2 suits are ‘no frills’ environmental armor and do not feature any enhanced optics or gimmicks. They do however, boast superior protection for a relatively low cost. It is interesting to note that NTI is willing to custom-build armor for a fee to fit unusual body styles and has already taken several requests from 10 foot tall + D-Bees and those with odd body shapes. NTI Carapace armor is available in black, urban camo, and woodland camo, with black being the standard option.
NTI-BA-1 “Carapace” Body Armor:
M.D.C: 75 (Helmet: 35, Legs: 40, Arms: 35) Weight: 16 Lbs Mobility: Excellent, -5% prowl penalty. Cost: 45,000 credits, available only through NTI.
NTI-BA-2 “Carapace” Body Armor:
M.D.C: 100 (Helmet, 45, Legs: 45, Arms: 40) Weight: 23 Lbs Mobility: Fair, -10% prowl penalty. Cost: 55,000 credits, available only through NTI.
NTI Diplodicus
Rumor has it that the NTI Diplodocus is a carbon copy of a pre-rifts vehicle discovered somewhere in North America. Whether or not this is true the public may never know but few question the production of this clever design. The 6X6 drive is made possible by a complex and unique transmission system. The second set of rear wheels features a second transfer case, the original designers were able to come up with a solution to deliver torque to the two rear axles equally. A standard driveshaft powers the second axle which is linked to the third by an over-the-shoulder, chain-driven driveshaft. As a result, power is shared between all three axles almost equally enabling the Diplodocus to negotiate terrain that would stop a conventional 4X4.
In addition to better overall traction, the 6X6 platform boasts excellent cargo capacity – the eight and a half foot long cargo box can carry over 5,000 pounds – and is easy to drive with a four speed automatic transmission. The monolithic 8 liter V-10 engine is not the most fuel efficient of choices, but at over five hundred horsepower provides all of the power one could ask for and then some – up to 26,000 pounds of towing capacity. A computer controlled adaptive suspension system means that even while carrying loads of near maximum capacity the truck remains level and the ride comfortable. Solid rubber military style standard tires also prevent blowouts, further enhancing cross country travel.
The Diplodocus is available in two versions, the standard cab (as pictured) and an enhanced cab version that can comfortably seat a driver, passenger and three others. It also comes standard with a 25,000 pound capable winch mounted to the front bumper and a heavy roll bar.

NTI Razorback Chain Weapons
The Razorback line is a new take on enhanced personal melee weapons. Inspired by the Juicer Chainsaw close-combat weapon system.
NTI has taken that concept and refined it to a more elegant level. The concept is very simple: construct a very small chainsaw in the shape of a melee weapon and then give it teeth. These teeth are made from recycled scraps of armor (usually from destroyed robots and power armor) and are thus relatively cheap to come by, though the near mono-molecular sharpening process is still extremely expensive. Then, one simply needs to add a trigger and an E-Clip powered motor and a new level of brutality has been created.
Featuring high damage output, these weapons are nonetheless slightly awkward to use in a combat situation as they behave differently from what one would expect. They are also very heavy compared to vibro weapons of similar size. A sword slash is a straight and even cut, whereas a swipe from a chainsword ‘chews’ into a target and leaves an ugly, jagged wound. The damage is impressive though, more than making up for their relative difficulty to use.
One of the biggest problems in growing accustomed to these weapons is that they actually provide a sort of recoil. When one swings a sword, the blade bites into the target on its own. The sharp teeth of a NTI Razorback weapon will do limited amounts of damage, but one must pull the trigger to activate the motor to truly harm the target. The moving blades push themselves away from the enemy, requiring that pressure be maintained during the entire cut. Despite their inherent inaccuracy, NTI’s Razorback weapons are developing a following among especially brutal mercenaries and men of arms.
A single e-clip powers each unit for 60 minutes of use. (Double for Chain-Saber)
Chain-Saber (Short, one handed sword): 3d4 MD, 11,00 credits. (-1 to parry, -1 to strike under PS 20)
Chain-Sword: 3d6 MDC, 15,000 credits. (-2 to parry, -1 to strike under PS 20)
Chain-Axe: 3d6 MDC, 15,000 credits. (-2 to parry, -1 to strike under PS 20)
Giant Chain-Sword (Pictured): 6d6 MDC, 35,000 credits. (Requires an augmented PS of 24 or a normal PS of 28 to use at all, even then must be wielded with both hands and is -3 to parry, and -1 to strike. The blade is six feet long, and to use effectively the user should be at least eight feet tall himself. This weapon is really only suitable for heavy, full conversion cyborgs and very heavy suits of power armor.)
NTI Carnivore Projectile Weapons
Although they do not look especially high tech at first, NewTech’s Carnivore series represents a quantum leap in projectile weapon and manufacturing technology. The similarity between the various weapons of the line is intentional and almost identical. NewTech has perfected a modular manufacturing process that sees each rifle first built as a ‘frame’ and then mated to two semi-modular barrels. The end result is a very flexible weapon system that, while cannot be changed once assembled enables the company to produce these weapons cheaply and very efficiently. For the consumer, this means low cost, ease of maintenance as well as a variety of weapon options.
The actual weapons technology used in the Carnivore series is mostly relatively proven technology, the cleverness coming in miniaturization and adaptation – many say that the shotgun system used in several weapons is a direct rip-off of Northern Gun technology. Nonetheless, NTI breaks new ground with its experimental pulse rifle technology. Made possible by the use of strong but light barrel alloys, pulse rifle technology uses case less rounds of hardened MDC metals that are surrounded by a plasma based propellant. Electronically fired, they are capable of reaching almost rail gun-like speeds in a small package. Their small size means high magazine capacity but also has the downside of doing relatively little damage per shot. NTI’s technology makes up for this with an extremely high rate of fire.
Due to case less ammunition and few moving parts, NTI's pulse rifle technology is considered extremely reliable and is becoming a favorite despite what some call a relatively low damage capacity. It is also highly identifiable on the field, with the gun producing a neon green muzzle flare and a rapid popping sound in copulation with the small booms of the supersonic ammunition.
Finally, NTI is reasonably quiet about the only real downside to its weapons: Ammunition must be purchased from NTI and NTI only, as even the shotgun rounds come in sealed magazine that are factory made. Allegedly, this is due to the plasma propellant involved. It also means that the shotguns cannot carry varied load outs -- an entire magazine of fragmentation, plasma, or APPP rounds must be used.

Additionally, any target hit by the plasma will burn for 2d6 MDC every melee round for 1d4 minutes. (melee round=15 seconds). The only way to extinguish the plasma is to roll in dirt or sand for an entire melee round (15 seconds) and rub it off. Water will not work and the substance does not require oxygen to burn.
Shotgun: Varies with Ammo Type
Solid Slugs: 5d6 SDC Single Shot
Explosive (Frag): 2d6 MDC to 10 Foot Area
Explosive (Plasma): 3d6 MDC to 8 foot area
APPP (Armor-Piercing Plasma Propelled) Rounds: 4d6 MDC per Single Shot
Rate of fire: Single shots only, weapons may not be fired together.
Maximum Effective Range: 400 Feet, Plasma Flamethrower. 300 feet, Sdc shotgun shells. 500 feet explosive rounds. 750 feet, APPP rounds.
Payload: 6 rounds per magazine, shotgun. Internal plasma tank holds enough plasma for 30 short blasts/15 long blasts. Each 10 foot area covered counts as a single blast. Requires 15 seconds to swap out a tank.

Rate of Fire: Single Shot Only
Maximum Effective Range: 100 feet, SDC shotgun shells. 200 feet, explosive MDC rounds. 300 feet, APPP rounds.
Payload: 5 rounds per magazine.
Notes: This is a very heavy pistol, firing full-size 12 gauge shotgun shells. PS of 18 required to use or the firing individual simply cannot keep hold of the weapon under the recoil and is -3 to strike on that shot. He or she is in grave danger of breaking their wrist as well. This is really meant to be a cyborg's pistol. It really should be stressed that this pistol kicks like very few things can and that even if one has the PS to use it it will become uncomfortable very quickly after extended use.
Black Market Cost: only available direct from NTI. 25,000 credit cost.
WP Required: WP Handguns
NTI-02C "Ramphoryncus" Sub-Machinegun
The NTI-02C uses the same principle as the rest of the 'Carnivore' line of weapons -- a plasma charge accelerates a slug to near rail-gun like velocities. What is remarkable about the Ramphoryncus is the relatively low calibre. At first, NTI struggled with minaturizing the technology enough to develop a compact, low-calibre weapon but eventually succeeded with the NTI-02C. The actual projectiles are only slightly larger in mass than a .22 long rifle round but are diamond hard and accelerated to hypersonic speeds. The small size enables the NTI-02C to carry a good payload of ammunition as well. The fully electronic ignition system means that it rarely jams. It is also quite accurate.
While there may be more damaging choices out there, when you want to throw up a wall of plasma-propelled lead and still be reasonably compact, the NTI-02C is your best choice.
Weight: 5.3 Pounds
Mega Damage: Variable rate of fire, electronic ignition. 2d6 for 3 rounds, 3d6 for 5, 4d6 for 7 and 6d6 for full auto burst of 10 rounds.
Rate of Fire: See Mega Damage. Burst only.
Maximum Effective Range: 1400 Feet.
Payload: A single 120 round box magazine.
Notes: +2 to strike on 4d6, +1 to strike on 5d6, +0 on a 6d6. Advanced recoil compensation. Lower calibre than Raptor/Pterodactyl. Rounds are not interchangeable.
Black Market Cost: only available direct from NTI. 24,000 credit cost.
WP Required: WP Submachine-gun
NTI-03A "Achilliobator" APPP (Armor Piercing, Plasma Propelled) Pulse Cannon
The ultimate evolution of NTI's Pulse Weapon technology the Achilliobator is usually referred to as the 'Ay Triple P' or 'Three Pee' by the men and women that use it. It is heavy, a little bit ungainly and chews through ammunition like a five year old chews through candy but the damage sure is impressive. It fires the same rounds that are used by the Raptor pulse rifle and other NTI weapons at almost ungodly speeds. A quartet of barrels are fed by a long ammunition belt.
The only disadvantage beside the risk of overspray due to inherant burst innacuracy is the weight and recoil. It is simply not suitable for most organic beings and requires either power armor, supernatural strength or being a cyborg to handle.
Weight: 132 Pounds for gun. Ammunition belt: 45 pounds each. Takes 3 melee actions to fit and load a belt.
Mega Damage: Variable rate of fire, electronic ignition. 3d6 for 8 rounds, 6d6 for 16 rounds, 1d4X10 for 25 rounds, 1d6X10 for a burst of 40 rounds.
Rate of Fire: See Mega Damage. Burst only.
Maximum Effective Range: 4500 Feet.
Payload: Each belt contains 400 rounds.
Strength Requirement: Requires a PS of 26 natural/augmented to use effectively. Robots/Heavy Power Armor/Supernatural can use if at least PS 20. Exoskeletons count as Natural/Augmented normally, unless description states otherwise.
Black Market Cost: only available direct from NTI. 95,000 credit cost.
WP Required: WP Heavy Mega Damage Weapons
NTI-04A "Megalodon" Sniper Rifle
While a good many say that the NTI-03A is the ultimate evolution of Newtech's Plasma Propulsion technology the NTI-04A is just that according to the company itself. It focuses on two simple things: Accelerating a single large projectile as fast as possible as accurately as possible. The projectile itself is quite unique for NTI, borrowing a concept used hundreds of years ago as an Anti-Tank round. Known as an APFSDS Round (Armor Piercing, Fin-Stabilized, Discarding Sabot) it works by surrounding a hardened penetrator in the shape of a finned dart inside a light steel jacket. When fired the jacket is shed by air resistance leaving the dart to continue on to the target where it hits with incredible kinetic energy.
NTI's unique twist on it is that the central core of the dart is surrounded by even harder alloys. When it strikes a hardened target the softer (but still incredibly dense) outer portion of the penetrator is brought to a standstill by the armor but the knetic energy is transferred to the smaller, but much denser inner core which more often than not penetrates the target.
The Megalodon is a very heavy and very large rifle, with a barrel length of almost four and a half feet -- the large APPP rounds requiring a thick and durable barrel. But the round hits incredibly hard and virtually sneers at air turbulence -- accurate out to a very long distance. These weapons are rare and expensive even in Kingsdale. (Considered 'Exotic' for availability, price is as listed however)
Weight: 24.5 Pounds
Mega Damage: 1D6X10 MDC. (yes, this is an exception to the 1d4X10 for a rifle rule)
Rate of Fire: Single shot only. May only fire aimed shots. (2 actions)
Maximum Effective Range: 6000 Feet.
Payload: 1 round, hand loaded. (yes, this means 2 actions per shot and another action to reload. Sniping is not fast.)
Bonus: +2 to strike on an aimed shot with default optics.
Enhanced Critical: This weapon provides an 'Enhanced Critical' and effectively reduces the to-hit number needed for a natural critical strike by one. Since a critical hit is a standard naturally rolled 20, the Megalodon will crit on a natural 19 or a natural 20. If the character crits on a 19, the Megalodon will crit on an 18, 19 or 20.
Penalties: Weapon is designed to be fired in a prone position. Even in prone, a PS lower than 15 imposes -2 penalty. If less than 24 and firing from non-prone position there is a -6 penalty. A PS of 30 or greater there is no penalty to firing in a non-prone posistion.
Black Market Cost: only available direct from NTI. 75,000 credits.
WP Required: WP Rifles
NTI-05A "Paladin" Combat Shotgun
Newtech is known to be a reactive company if nothing else. For some time, plans have kicked around for a pre-rifts automatic shotgun that has not been produced since well before the apocalypse. Popular public domain they actually were to be found at the Kingsdale Library. However in this day and age of M.D.C. combat nobody felt that it was a practical weapon . . . until rumors of an undead issue began to mount. Thoughtfully, NTI produced a few of these ancient warhorses as a test market and found them wildly successful for anti-supernatural work of all kinds. Though it is unknown what the original weapon was, NTI has called this the NTI-05A "Paladin" Combat Shotgun. It is fully automatic and capable of firing up to five rounds a second from a circular 30 round drum. There are those who actually question such a lethal anti-vampire/anti-undead weapon system, beliving that it forces them to adopt new strategies such as wearing body armor and using magic protection. Due to each one being currently hand assembled, the NTI-05A's are costly. The company is still undecided as to weather or not to mass produce these weapons. Ammunition can also be a costly venture if using silver rounds. Weight: 10.5 Pounds
Mega Damage: None, cannot fire the MDC rounds NTI's other combat shotguns can.
S.D.C: 3d6 SDC for a single shot, 6d6 for a burst of three, 1d6X10 SDC for a burst of 6, 2D4X10 SDC for a burst of 10.
Rate of Fire: Damage.
Maximum Effective Range: 100 Feet.
Payload: 30 rounds per drum.
Black Market Cost: only available direct from NTI. 21,000 credit cost.
