Kingsdale Museum (Library)
A monday evening and Zachary is hard at work. Well, to a point. He's got a well used and weathered book open at one of the tables, a pad open beside it. The book is a manual of common spells and he's making notes on one of them in neat Dragonese. His brow is softly furrowed, the library itself ignored before the quick jotting that he does.
Bookworms of the world, unite. Oddly, the stereotype is perhaps lessened in Kingsdale as much as it is exacerbated most everywhere else. Leonard enters the library with a casual smile attached to his face and a corvid avian mounted on his shoulder. The former might even be more conspicuous than the latter, given the cloloring of feathers and cloak.
"Yes.. I knew it was so," Zachary murmurs lowly to himself after flipping a few pages. The book left open as he leans back slightly. A subtle frown touching his lips. Thoughtfully as he taps the eraser end of his pencil lightly upon his pad. But a few moments later his eyes close and he lifts his other hand to rub his fingers over his own brow. Taking a few moments away from the text and his studies.
Leonard moves for the tables, seeking one open for his own use. It is in this process that Zachary is noted, along with the telltale signs of closed eyes and fingers upon brow. "You're not working too hard, I hope?" The inquiry is given as he nears the table, along with a soft chuckle.
Zachary lifts his hand and his eyes open when Leonard addresses him. "Hmm?" Seeing the man his expression relaxes somewhat and he shakes his head. "Just a great deal of reading. I'd not much considered seeking spells before and now I wonder if it's perhaps better to not. And yet.. there is such potential." He looks back to the book, which is open to an entry describing Lantern Light. And so many names I have heard of, yet know little about."
"The possibilities are all but infinite." Leonard nods, grin remaining. "Rather overwhelming, isn't it? I've had the frustration of trying to design formulae from scratch, and wouldn't recommend it." The book and enough of the entry are perused with a brief glance. "You're seeking illumination, as it were?"
"Well, it seemed a proper one to consider for purchase, as I have made an item recently that offer sup light," Zach replies. "Though perhaps I should seek something else.. what I am unsure of as I find myself at a loss for what my next project may be in the mixing of magic with technology. And truth be told I would rather not try to make such a thing up on my own. I have ways I would prefer to spend my time."
Leonard chuckles anew at his mention of his leisure time. "I can imagine. I would gladly offer to share what I know, but I can't help with that particular effect. Despite what some might presume, I'm not of the flash and bang sort. I'm glad Vixen carries a flashlight."
Zachary considers Leo for a few moments after he speaks. "I suppose it would be easier.. I don't know that I would have much to offer in return. I'm not even sure if you have a spell that would suit my needs. Though I suppose for now something simple and practically useful would be best. Right now small devices seem more practical than anything too grandiose."
"I suppose some of what I know could be considered grandiose," Leonard rolls his shoulders, apparently dislodging his fine feathered friend, whom alights upon the table just before the man, himself, claims a seat, "but I'm uncertain what you would think is such. Dimensional manipulation and travel, the means to keep at bay the things one might find in said travels, and some defensive invocations, just in case. That is the bulk of my repertoire, whether practical for your uses or not. As I can barely operate my pocket comp, I've almost no notion of your craft."
Zachary glances at the bird, giving it a brief, odd look before Leo gains his full attention once more. He shakes his head and murmurs, "I don't think dimensional spells are of much use to me.. from what I have heard, they are costly in their power needs. When I consider simple, usable things I think to those which are low in the need of power and practically useful to one's day to day life. Such as Globe of Daylight. A simple spell with many uses."
Leonard nods with the rumored fact. "They can be tiring, impractical most times, then indispensible on occassion. I really should learn something as simple and practical as creating light, but never gave it much thought since I try to avoid stumbling in the dark. Maybe my studies are a bit /too/ focused."
"I could not say," Zach replies, considering for a few moments. "It really is hard to decide what to get when I am not quite sure what all I wish to make.. have you any spells that you might wish to see melded with a device in a practical way? An example would be the spells Ignite Fire and Fuel Flame, which I have. I have considered a device that would let you light a flame in an instant with just a small investiture of magical energy. Both spells are relatively minor and mix well together."
"That does sound to be useful," Leonard now smirks, "which may be why I know neither. Should another horde of undead from another realm attempt to assault the city, I can help. If someone needs to light a cigarette or a candle, I'm apparently useless." A bemused chuckle interrupts. "Maybe I'm not suited to assist you, as you said."
"Perhaps.. I suppose I shall have to figure out what i wish to do first before I go looking." Zachary considers quietly before there is a soft chime from his bag. He glances towards it, brows lifting. "Already?" Murmured to himself quietly before he looks to Leo. "I must go.. evening plans," he says, rising up to gather his things quickly. "I will keep you in mind for talk over matters magical in the future."
Leonard nods as Zachary excuses himself. "That does help, but I do understand the difficulties in deciding. When you see Amber again, tell her I said 'Hello?' I've not seen much of her lately." A possible presumption on the evening plans, or just the fact that they are coworkers.
Zachary looks to Leo when he mentions Amber. "Oh.. I will. Have a good evening," he offers with a dip of his head before turning with the book, taking it back to the shelves before he slips away to his evening plans.
