Kingsdale - Magic District
With much of Kingsdale's Population capable of wielding spells in one form or another it is not surprising that the Magic District is one of the busiest parts of the city. The wide streets are clogged with traffic that ranges from typical cars and trucks to the quite bizarre. Techno-wizard vehicles of all shapes, sizes and colors line the streets. Wheels are apparently not standard and it is not uncommon to see contraptions powered by hover devices, tracks, legs and sometimes even more exotic methods such as sails and wind generating magic. Each seems to be regarded as equally valid by most of the community here and even the stranger ones barely get a second look. Mainly a commercial and entertainment district, this place caters to all things magical. One can buy cantrips and low-level spells almost anywhere and techno-wizard devices are plentiful. One can easily get most items of the kind easily recharged here too. Many different mages -- both skilled and not -- offer entertainment and magic shows for the youth of Kingsdale here too, and there is almost always something happening. Though a few of the structures in the district are fairly large and sprawling, none are so famous as the monolith -- a building spoken of only in hushed whispers. The Monolith is a massive, cubical structure that is the home to the Kingsdale Magical Guild -- one of the most powerful groups of mages in North America. Forty feet square, it is composed of simple black rock with a single twenty foot double door. Almost any person in Kingsdale can tell the story of how a few years ago, a terrorist fired a long range missile at the building and did not even scratch it and that clearly, something is more than meets the eye. The public is typically turned away from the monolith and most simply give it a wide berth although many say they feel safe with it watching over them. Most will say as well that if an 'uninitiated' has business with the guild, Guild Shop is the place to get your foot in the door.
Bright and early, is the best time to catch merchants, garage sales, buses, and boats. But not magicians. At least that's what's apparent to Tirzah as she makes her way down the street to find little set up yet. Of course she should know this, being in the city long enough and living near by so why would she be here so long before she's likely to find anyone?
Zachary is not so bereft. Warmly clad in his cold weather finery, he's chatting animatedly with another fellow. A smaller human, dressed in the more classic style of a Techno-Wiard, complete with leather aviator jacket and a pair of goggles and open faced helmet to go along with the light armor he wears beneath. The human produces a folded, well weathered bit of paper that, once he starts unfolding it, Zach moves in a bit closer to peer at, pointing at part of it, he suggests something, to which the man considers as both continue to study the paper.
Tirzah meanders about the street a bit more before she does spot what she's looking for. Luckily, someone still has the bad fashion sense to stick to classic attire. Not that there's anything wrong with the practicality of such arrangements. They're just classic as opposed to classy new or mysterious. Walking towards her find she slows a bit when she recognizes the other she met the other day. Approaching with caution.
"No no.. you need to shift this one here.. the matrix would be weaker otherwise," Zach suggests, his pointing finger shifting just slightly on the paper. "But this," the other fellow notes, nudging another spot as Zach holds the other end of the paper. "This would be wrong.." The elf nods. "Yes.. but this here.." THe human chips in, "..that there." The two nod almost at the same time then look at each other. "Thanks, buddy, that just took an hour off that," the human says, extending a hand towards Zach. The shake is taken and Zach smiles faintly. "A minor help, perhaps. Your idea is good, I think it will work nicely. Good luck. After an exchange of pleasantries, they part and the human starts to walk along the way, peering at his paper as he goes. Zach smiles after him, lingering on the sidewalk for a bit.
Her original interest is walking off But Tirzah has found someone better perhaps, if the last conversation doesn't sully things to much. She takes a moment to consider this discovery, and how she'll let that effect her chosen role. "You're a technowizard?" She asks Zachary, announcing her presence with a calm smirk.
Zachary glances towards Tirzah when she speaks, his smile faltering somewhat as eyes confirm ears. He considers her quietly for a moment before he turns to face her and slides his hands into his jacket pockets. "That is one of my talents, yes," he confirms with a nod of his head. His expression balances and he pauses his response there, letting the woman continue. Pose nods, looking over Zachary a new for a moment as she considers her words. "I.. No, Kingsdale, has need of you and your talents." She states boldly, watching closely to gauge his reactions. "Not the officials of course, perhaps they have considered my idea but would you be in there notice if they went to implement it? But I'm babbling. Would you do something for this place and get some notice?" She asks openly, her tone calm and considering.

Zachary frowns faintly as she speaks, though he doesn't interrupt and afterward considers her quietly for a few moments. "Only if you speak frankly and truthfully on whatever you want from me. No doubt it has something to do with my skills at Techno-Wizardry, but I would warn you that I have minimal personal funds at the moment and no resources here." Simply stated before again he pauses.
Tirzah grins widely at that, looking ready to barter. "Maybe you'd like some." She suggests as she considers what to tell him first. "You are no doubt aware of the undead issues the cit is having of late. I have an idea to hamper them, though its feasibility is questionable. Seeing as your trade is the means maybe we could find a way to make it feasible."
"For that you would have to tell me what you plan," Zachary responds simply, his frown lingering despite Tirzah's grin and hints of promise. "I have heard of the issues, yes, but that does not tell me what it is you want. If you could please get on with the details? Otherwise, this talk is worth little when it comes to actually coming up with a means to an end."
Tirzah nods, not looking bothered by getting to the point. "There is a spell across all disciplines of the arcane for keeping the undead at bay. I believe those who study the ways to shape magic call it the Globe of Daylight. My idea is that if some and perhaps eventually all of the city's lamp posts could be triggered to release that spell the undead would not be much of a threat. Though I understand your trade requires gemstones, I don't know which would be needed for the task, or how many." She explains for Zachary.
Zachary blinks as she reveals the idea. But he dutifully supplies some information. "That depends. If you just wish the spell, that would only require a good clear quartz stone. Not very expensive, though there are likely.. hundreds of these lampposts throughout the city." He shakes his head slightly. "More than any one person could hope to install upon and I have a job already." He pauses again, considering. "So too, this would only allow those with magical or psychic potential to activate them. If you wished to store energy that any could use, it would take diamonds or emeralds to effect. Both of which are extremely expensive. Amongst the most expensive gemstones that we work with. The price depending on how large a stone is needed and the availability here.. which I don't know yet." He draws his hands from his pockets to cross them over his chest loosely.
Tirzah nods as she takes note of the gem types but doesn't look set back. "Yes this is probably too big for any one person to implement. Making it feasible is more the key. First I'll find the resources then we can worry about the workload." She counters. "Back where I grew up there are some earth warlocks, I believe they could show me where to look for those gems. And I have another friend who wants to go into mining gems anyway. Perhaps we can find enough, or even extra. Another question, could those posts near the lines here in the district draw from them?" She asks calmly.
"Perhaps," Zachary replies, "Though I have not agreed to assist you in this as of yet." Noted plainly. "Perhaps if you can do as you say, I may. But at the moment I haven't the resources to extend myself without some assurances. I help no one if my performance at work suffers and as a result I lose both my job and my home. It would be a fine thing to help this city, but would such a thing even work? I have heard that vampires dislike these lights.. to a point. But other things? I've heard no such indication. In any project, every angle must be fully investigated and confirmed before it is implemented."
Tirzah nods understanding the skepticism and reluctance. "Well you gave me what I needed for now, I'll get back to you when I have some quartz and perhaps the rare ones too. As for the spell, almost all undead are harmed or significantly weakened by entering its light. I think percentage wise that would be a good investment if the resources are available." She states confidently. "Until later then."
Zachary seems somewhat skeptical, but in the end he nods simply. "Very well. You may leave a message for me at Caliopa's garage when you have more information. That is my place of employment." He glances to the side slightly, considering another person who walks by mutely for a few moments before he looks back to Tirzah.
Her aim accomplished, Tirzah heads north. She has a trip to plan.
