Kingsdale - Magic District

Sunday at midday may be a time of rest for some, but not so for Leonard. He exits the Guild Shop onto the street, his business there currently concluded, although he bears no apparent parcels. His cloak and even umbrella are absent in the heat, even with the looming potential for rain or mist.

Zachary is currently speaking with a pair of young men nearby the shop itself. One wearing an aviator jacket much like the elf, while another is clad in a jumpsuit, goggles resting against his forehead as he and the other peer at some scribblings in a notebook Zach is holding while he goes over something with a few poking points of his fingertip on the page, shifting from one place to another with each point outlined to the other two. "You see, it should capture the essence of the power here, to meld it with the guidance here. Theoretically," he ends with, the two other Techno-Wizards considering his presentation carefully after.

The proliferation of leather nearbyis difficult to miss, as is the tall elf. As he nears, Leonard offers an acknowledging nod and a politely subdued "Good day" that is directed to Zachary, but potentially includes all three. Then a smile follows in a more personal differentiation of the neighbor and friend. "It appears you are hard at work again... or still."

Zachary looks towards Leonard, as do the other two when he comes to offer greetings. "Good afternoon, Leonard," the elf offers, smiling in welcome. "This is as much pleasure as work." The other two giving more polite nods in response. The one with the goggles looks to Zach then and notes, "Your plan seems valid enough, but whether you can maintain the fine control or not is the question. Telekinesis wasn't meant for that much force. It may not have the integrity to do more than simple, forceful thrusts." Zachary looks to the other Tech-Mage and a soft, thoughtful frown comes to him. "That is true," he agrees, the third man nodding along with the other two. "But it is a bold attempt, even should it not be successful," he adds.

"It sounds as if I'm interrupting your work, pleasurable as it may be," Leonard is intrigued by the snippets of discussion, still, "and bold, as well. I agree that telekinesis has its limitations, but I expect that if anyone could exceed them, you would be the one to do so." A compliment in light of his interruption, although he does add a caveat. "In my nontechnical opinon, at least."

"Not at all." Zach looks to the other two. "This is the one who gave me the idea for the Anti-Fire Field," he notes to them, the two smiling and sharing a brief exchange over the mention of the device. Zach looks back to Leo as he notes, I'm attempting to make a hand overlay that combines the spells Telekinesis and Superhuman Strength. To harness the power of the latter with the fine control of the former. It would allow one to lift great weights as well as push away aggressors or even deflect their attacks from afar.. well, if one were to have the coordination to do so. It is a difficult mental exercise to execute such quick and fine control of telekinesis. As was noted, the spell was not made to handle such force, but perhaps with a proper enhancement it could. If nothing else, it could suffice to drive away attackers with overwhelming force. Or knock aside obstructions." He smiles, seeming pleased with the prospective idea.

Leonard arches a brow as he considers this. "Interesting. I've never really considered the combination of various effects that seems to be your hallmark. Then again, its not something I'm apt nor able to perform, at least not in the same fashion." A vaguely related thought then comes to mind. "Since I have your expertise present, would you have any suggestions on how one might bestow various effects for another's use? Someone without any mystical nor mental talents?"

Zachary and his two companions consider Leo's challenge to them, though it doesn't take very long for him to note, "Well, for one who would like to use a Techno-Wizardry device without the appropriate mystical or mental focus to do so innately, they can be made with physical switches and controls to activate their powers. But it costs a fair share more as they must have internal power storage. This requires diamonds or emeralds and can increase the cost of the device by several thousand credits, depending on how much power one would store in it. Or, if the device is to be used on a leyline, it can be made to siphon directly from them." The other two nod to back up his explanation of the simple facts. "The usefulness would be, of course, limited by how much power is stored. But it could be recharged by anyone who has the proper mental or magical focus."

Leonard nods along with a thoughtful murmur following the explanantion. "Yes, I realize that the power for the effect would need to come from somewhere. I'll keep that in mind for the future. It appears possible to do something similar with invocations crafted specifically for the purpose of sharing, but they are all quite complex."

Zachary nods his head once. "It is something to keep in mind, should you seek something for someone who does not have our gifts. And you might also remember that with Techno-Wizardry, the mingling of spells is part of what we do. To make something new and unique. So should you consider devices you might need in the future, consider spells you have and what shortcomings you see in them. Then consider how they might be improved upon where other spells are greater. Therein lies one of the strengths of Techno-Wizardry."

"Quite a potent strength, as well." Leonard admits. "Your latest theory is quite intriguing and I'd be interested to see how that progresses, success or not. I'll also consider other possible combinations, even if directed energy and other ...unsubtle effects are not my focus." He looses a mildly amused chuckle. "We are at somewhat opposite ends in the realm of application, but I suppose that offers the benefit of a varied point of view."

Zachary nods his head once, though his response is delayed as the two peers of his note their need to depart. He turns to exchange some final pleasantries before they head along, chatting at each other rapid fire. With that done he looks back to Leo. "I welcome alternate insights as they're the path to seeing those things that I cannot yet see. Or bringing forward ideas that I might not otherwise consider."

Leonard bids the other men a simple farewell before returning his attention to Zachary. "Should you ever have specific need in the focus of time, space or transdimensionality, I'd be happy to assist. Regretably, it seems a field rarely as actively pursued as much as others."

"I can't say I have any such needs. Travel was never something I had a great deal of interest in," Zachary replies. "To Tolkeen or Stormspire some day, perhaps, but for the moment such things are more a distraction. A passing fancy. Perhaps some day I might need to procure components from a distant place, but even that I don't yet anticipate doing in the near term."

"Tolkeen is a destination on the lists of many," Leonard smirks with not quite the mirth from before, "althought it's now pushed farther to the future, I'd expect." Rather than delve into the overly bemoaned topic of those current events, he asks, "What brings you to the district, today? Just the consultation with your peers?"

Zachary nods and lifts his head to glance about slowly. "Yes, I come here from time to time to seek the thoughts of my peers. Sometimes they provide an insight I did not have. Or I can provide one to them." His attention shifts back to Leo and he adds, "Much like with matters purely mechanical, there is a benefit from seeking such council. Though today there was no greater insight than that which I had already considered. Even so, it is good to have my concerns confirmed."

Leonard nods with an exhalation that is not quite a sigh. "I am still seeking the opportunity for more similar council and even peers, myself. As I said, mine is not the most sought after study, so I've begun to seek inroads into what is generally considered improbable." A hand motions to the nearby and ever-looming monolith.

Zachary glances towards the Monolith and frowns faintly. "You as well? I spoke to another who had similar thoughts. I would say the same as I did to him. I don't have good feelings about the Guild. You recall the ways of the Keeper. And the state of that man that was brought before the place." She shakes her head slightly. "I have no interest in seeking deeper into that place. None at all."

"I won't claim to be especially fond of the bureaucracy and agendas that certainly lie within," Leonard rolls his shoulders slightly, "but such is true with most any establishment. The incident was odd, to say the least, but I can't dismiss everything on that one event. I won't be able to make a suitably informed decision until I know more, and that requires some effort on my part."

"I can respect that, I suppose," Zachary allows, though his brow remains furrowed with concern. "Just tread carefully, Leonard. I would not be happy if you took that poor man's place one day. If you feel you are in trouble, do not hesitate to ask after me. You have given me help in the past, it would be a poor thing if I could not at least return the favor."

Leonard's smile makes a return with his nod. "I'll be cautious, and thank you for the offering. The events that transpired might not completely dissuade me, but they'll be kept well in mind. I don't envy that man, whatever transpired prior to his arrival."

Zachary nods his head once. "Very well then. I should away now. My break is nearly done and I have some more planning to do and some work to turn out devices for sale." He smiles, seeming pleased with what lies ahead. "Remember, if you need any devices, common or custom, you can now come to Cali's Garage for them." Of course he does have to plug his own. Though it is done lightly, without a waver of that friendly tone.

"I won't delay your return, nor will I forget," Leonard chuckles, "and will refer others, as well. Do try not to become /too/ absorded in your work, however. I'm sure we'll speak again soon, perhaps concerning a fresh concept for a device. Enjoy your day, Zachary."

"A good day to you, Leonard. And a pleasant evening." Zachary dips his head towards the other man before he turns, folding closed his notebook as he starts to walk along. Heading north on his way back to work.
