LANDING STRIP

Galvin is sitting next to his giant ATV. He is leaning against one of the large tires enjoying the shade that the ATV casts. He has next to him a bottle of diet soda. He is idly watching the busy comings and goings on the landing strip. Aircraft land one after another while smaller air borne power armor land just as frequently.

Pavel comes lumbering lithely into the area from the north, apparently having found some odd path through both brush and buildings. Today his eventual landing spot is obvious - Galvin and his giant ATV. The man's voice is beyond that of most men, and he bellows out a deep greeting in Euro: << Galvin, my friend! You have nothing to do but wait until people build your garage for you? Water is free, you know. It's in rivers, lakes and streams all over the place. No one has to buy it. That's a racket. >> That said, he falls quiet and takes his large form closer to the other man and his machine.

Galvin looks up from where he is sitting as Pavel approaches. "I have lots of things to do, but right now I am just sitting here. What are you talking about water for?" He asks in confusion. "I don't need any water right now thank you," he responds in Euro.

The large man chuckles loudly at himself once he reaches his destination. He points to the soda. << I thought it was water from where I was coming from. I suppose I should have waited for a closer look. Can you believe that people buy something they can get for free? >> Pavel shakes his head, amused. Another hand goes up toward the aircraft coming and going. << I have never before seen such things. There are people in them, or they are.. robot machines that you talked about? >>

"There is plenty of polluted water around. Radioactive water or polluted with other nastiness, but for the most part Kingsdale's water is pretty good." Galvin says with a brief shrug of his shoulders. "Their are people in them. Most of the robot vehicles have people in them as well." He says as he gestures to one of the Enforcer robots as it patrols the city walls.

Pavel's eyes follow the man's pointing had. << Oh. I learn new things every day! HA! I will talk to you more as friends in a minute, Galvin, but I admit that I've come to you with a question of your own abilities, as you asked me about mine. I'm facing a certain problem with potential theft, and while I can build things myself, I'd prefer what might be a better design that I could come up with. >> The words are left unfinished, cryptic.

"Uh... What is it you want? I know a bit about security systems, but you'll have to tell me what it is you want." Galvin says as he picks up his bottle of diet soda and takes a sip from it. "Being cryptic doesn't really help at all if you want something from me." Galvin says while rolling his eyes.

<< Sorry, I just didn't want keep talking. I have a tenancy to do that, >> Pavel admits as he bobs his head up and down once. He touches the hammers, knives and odd tools on his belt. << These are very important to me. They're far more special than simply being tools for my work. Solid gold? Yes. Solid silver so pure that a vampire would burst into flame if it touched it? Yes. People look at me as if they want to steal them. The tall woman who tried to steal my things when I arrived. I know that she wants them. >> He stops to consider his next words. << I can stop most men from taking them; most women, too. My strength is... not an issue. But I'd rather to not have to bother about it in the first place. I'm going to make a tool belt, that's easy. I'd like to see if you could just design a simple lock for me to secure my things. Just a little latch that I know how to undo quickly, but others would have a difficult time with. I can make the parts if you show me what they need to look like. Maybe we can both fit them together? Could I pay you for that? >>

"Sure that shouldn't take long. I can put in something to secure each tool that will make them more difficult to steal." Galvin says with another slight shrug. "It shouldn't be a problem. I have leather straps around most of my tools since I tend to work at lots of odd angles and don't want them falling down when I am hanging upside down or what not. Shouldn't take but a little bit."

<< I'm going to put something metal around them. Some of the people trying to take things like solid gold hammers can probably deal with leather. You know, something that I can make out of some of that heavy-duty reinforced plate steel. That's easy. I really need the design for the lock, and then help assembling it. I could do it myself, but I'd prefer an expert's opinion, >> Pavel says with a smile toward the other man. << If I make it out of that kind of metal, someone would have to either kill me to get them or lift me up and carry me. >> That bit ends in a heavy chuckle.

"Ok I can do that. I'll be able to help you out, and together I am sure we can work with it all. Just some locking metal latches and hooks to keep everything secure." Galvin says as he rubs his chin in thought. "Ok well that sounds good. I'll do my best to help you out."

<< Many thanks to you! Just give me blueprints, show me how it's supposed to work, and we can move from there. >> Pavel offers a thankful grin. << Your garage, it's being built yet? Have you looked into how much the light plate would cost? You know, the one that I can cover for you, as long as you have time to spare? >>

"No my garage hasn't been built yet. These things take some time. I am not really sure when it will be done." Galvin replies in Euro before shrugging his shoulders briefly again. "I won't be able to look into the plate until I have everything built. And then it will still take some time. I won't have money for a while since I am putting my savings into it."

Pavel sets his chin in a raised and cupping hand. << You have been kind to me, Galvin. I understand if you don't have the money right now, and I understand that your place needs to be protected, what with all of the expensive things that will be inside. What if I extended to you the same kindness you have shown me? If you can get an estimate of the area to be covered, I could try to purchase the necessary metal, and put it on for you. When you have the money to afford it, you can pay me back, one for one, no interest or cost for the work itself. >> His face splits into a grin as he adds, << I only offer to do this for you, because you have been so kind. No one else would ever get such consideration. Still, I understand if this offer doesn't interest you, and I won't take any offense, one way or another. >> Pavel's head leans slowly sideways.

"Well I hope it won't need protection. I will just have to do what I can, when I can. I can't afford to get it plated. But heck it isn't even built yet. Have to see how things are after it is built and all." Galvin says with a slight smile. "I thank you for your offer, but it is too early anyway for all this. We will try to figure out what we can do after it is built."

Pavel sweeps an arm before his chest. << I understand. But when you get into a better position later on, the offer still stands - and *only* for you. >> He then stands and looks around, rising to his full height. << There are other things to do here. I *like* the life! Live life while you can! Make it the best it can be! Score with lots of women, and preferably more than one at the same time! HA! >> He breaks down into chortling laughter.. that is probably a very serious comment on what he likes.

"I greatly appreciate your offer that is for sure, but I would like to pay you what I can for the work you do. But we will have to wait until everything is all built." Galvin says with a nod of his head and a wide smile. "And you know if there is anything I can do for you, you just have to ask." He says with a chuckle. "Oh yes there are some nice women about."

Pavel lays a mitt on Galvin's shoulder that wraps it like a Christmas present - but gently. << I understand. Now, on to nice women! I have some nice clothes to meet the ladies, fancier that these things, >> he says, plucking at his funny leather-and-fuzz jacket. << Show me around the city? I've seen the Alibi. Nice place, pretty ladies, easy to pick up. But is there more of a challenge? Or... something very easy? >> He wiggles his eyebrows up and down rapidly, many times. << You could be my personal tour guide, unless you're busy. Which you don't look to be busy at the moment, leaning here against a tire larger than anything I've ever seen. >>

"Well I don't know the city very well, but there are a few places to go. You could try the Nut and Bolt. That is my favorite place. Lots of hot geeky girls there. The Ivory Lady is a strip club. I haven't been there before, but I hear it is a pretty interesting place." Galvin says with a laugh and a slight shake of his head. "Nightingale is the really nice club in town. Have to dress up pretty nice to get in there."

The large man pats his chest with a fist, then decides to turn it into a full-blown King Kong rumble. << Clothes I have. Where to go with the clothes, I don't. A strip club? Sounds like an easy place to pick up many women! But there is the challenge of the hunt.. the Nightingale sounds a little too difficult for me right now. Not that I'll back down from a fight, but unless others can speak your language, a fancy place might be energy expended in a useless endeavor. However! >> Pavel grins and raises a triumphant finger into the air. << Hot girls, that sounds very good. *Lots* of hot girls sounds even better. Geeky? Not sure about that. Geeky is like you, lots of technology and things that I wouldn't understand? >>

"Well you can always try Moe's there are a lot of merc women there. You could pick up someone there perhaps." Galvin says with a grin, and a quick shrug of his shoulders. "Well the Ivory Lady is a brothel too, so if need be you can always find company there."

Pavel quickly waves away the idea of a brothel. << A brothel is nothing more than a large place full of open orifices that you have to pay money to get into. If I'm going to lay down with a woman and her twin sister, I want to work for it. Sometimes it's better to put your worm on a hook and leave it dangling to be rewarded with a fish to eat, than it is to wait for a fish to jump into your boat. It's just more fun! Surely you must know.. you noted the hot geeky women at your bar. You obviously noticed yourself, you dog. >> He grins widely and looks around. << How do I need to dress for this 'Nut and Bot'? >>

Galvin laughs loudly as he shakes his head. "Well if you want to do that then go to the various clubs and bars. I am sure you will do fine. I don't usually hit on women. I don't know a lot about that. I guess I am still pretty young. Most of the people at the Nut and Bolt are mechanics or other people that work with tools. Lots of them just come in there in overalls or what not. Just regular clothes should be fine." Galvin says before finishing off his soda with a gulp.

<< I will go over there, then, and let you be. If you need an older brother to show you the ways of the world, I am here! HA! >> Pavel snickers at himself and the world. << Thanks for listening, Galvin. Hopefully we can work out something quickly. I'm quite annoyed with having to worry about it. I'll go back to the forge right now, take stock of what I have on hand. >> He raises a hand in a civilian, completely non-military salute. More of a large wave, really. << I'll see you again, my friend! >> He then turns and begins to walk west along the Landing Strip.

"I'll see you down there later then. I'll just finish up lunch and go park my ATV somewhere." Galvin says with a bit of a grin. "Don't worry about it we'll get you a solid belt without a problem I am sure." He says while returning Pavel's salute with a nod and a friendly smile.

Pavel waves back to Galvin and smiles, but says nothing further as he leaves the area.
