OOC Note: Training Desmond in WP: Heavy MDC

Today kicks off with an early morning training slot, along with some rented weaponry from the firing range. Of course, being range equipment none of it is new, all of it is rather battered and scratched, but thanks to the modern materials and manufacturing techniques, it's all at least fully functional. And so Kesslan waits for Desmond by one of the firing line bunkers with a small assortment of heavy weaponry. An old, slightly rusty CS CR-1 missile launcher, a slightly newer but still very heavy NG- Railgun and in this instance to covery the energy side of weaponry a supprisingly fairly new NG-P7.

Desmond arrives on time. Punctuality is a strong suit of his and, given the training in particular, he comes armed and armored in his common battle garb. All the better to become used to using them in battle. He approaches Kesslan directly once he spies his fellow feline, a hand lifted as he calls out, "Kesslan. I see you are prepared." Coming to a pause nearby as he inspects the aged weaponry that has been laid out. "These will suffice for our needs?"

"For now. Yes these things do will. More will you need training on later, but one slow steps first must take. These most simple of these weapons are to learn." Kesslan responds to Desmond with a somewhat unusually clipped tone. Then again he's never been quite the same since comming back from the Coalition Base he raided. Still, there's more to it than that. Though what, exactly it may be is a touch hard to pin down at the moment. It's definately an 'all buisiness' tone however.

Desmond responds to the business tone with his own seriousness, moving closer to get a good look at the hardware. "Let us begin, I am eager to learn the ways of these devices. I saw one used before to devastating effect. A missile launcher, I believe. I hope never to need use such a weapon." He looks to the CR-1 initially, dropping down to get a closer look at it, not yet touching any of them.

"Some good are yes. This one.. not so good. Better ones there are, but common these are and still useful. Much are all the same only better made. Better balance." Kesslan explains as he picks up the launcher in question, though only to shift it over as the item of focus for the moment. "Weakness of this launcher type is need two claws to use proper. One claw can use but slow will be in reloading. Hatch here open you as this." he says demonstrating how to unlatch the rear cap so that a missile may be slid into place. "Load missile in nose first, push in make seated sure is then close top proper and lock." he says demonstrating the action of doing it without actually having a missile in hand. There are however a small handful of training missiles nearby in a well marked crate, but assumably for later use.

Shifting the launcher to it's side Kesslan then indicates the weapon sight. "Through this look you like scope of any weapon, shoulder pad here.." he says indicating the weapon's shoulder rest "over shoulder go so seated proper in is. Trigger is here.." he indicates the fairly standard pistol grip setup of the launcher. "Several launcher type is there for claws to use. This is but one, show others to you will I later." he then gives a brief walk over of the various optics of the sight for the missile launcher in question, showing how to adjust it for range and focus before setting the launcher down once more and backing up from it exactly three steps. "Now show me what learned have you so far."

Desmond rises, listening to the description, his eyes intent, ears flicked forward as he takes in the demonstration and details. "A very basic weapon," he agrees before the optics come into play. Once prompted to show his learning, he steps forward to get his hands on the launcher. "Open it. Insert the missile from the back, forward." Both actions mimed as he speaks them before he hefts the launcher, smoothly settling the heavy weapon on his shoulder. "Trigger.." He brushes the side of it lightly, despite the unloaded nature of the weapon. Ever careful, with the business end pointed downrange. He then adjusts the optics, narrating each action as he was shown. Not done with perfect quickness, but with the careful efficiency of one adjusting to something new.

Kesslan begins to slowly circle Desmond almost like he were stalking prey as Desmond goes about his demonstration, a forceful push reseats the launcher's shoulder rest to a slightly more appropriate angle. There's no words however as he does so, only yet more quiet circling, an adjustment here of how Desmond angle's his arm holding the pistol style grip, the placement of his free hand. Of course, fortuantely for one like Desmond such a weapon is likely quite light, doubly so unloaded. Only when he's fully satisfied with Desmond's posture does he speak once more. "Good. Now with training round do over again." he orders, pushing the case full of practice missiles in Desmond's direction with a rough shove of an armored foot. The longer the instruction goes on the more and more it starts to take on abit of an eerily similar method of instruction as the Coalition States employs.. yet.. perhaps even more harsh. Dulled only slightly perhaps, but not much at all if indeed dulled it is. Certainly Kesslan holds nothing back in his force, for he knows Desmond is more than capable of taking it, but he's certainly never before treated Desmond in such a way. WIth agression and pure, cold, calculated yet somewhat feline like ferocity in direction and instruction.

Desmond does not complain about the adjustments, his carry of the weapon and posture adjusting as nudged. His eyes do flit to one side or the other, as if to study each adjustment, though the feel of it is more important than any visual observation could be. However, even after being told to do with a practice round, he holds the corrected posture for a few moments, letting his body learn it a bit more before he lowers the luncher. Indeed, it is light in his hands, less effort expended to raise and lower it than the average person might require. He goes about the same process with the practice round, loading the launcher a bit slow, but intentionally to get a feel for how much force is needed for the missile and how deep before it 'clicks'. Studying even as he does. Lifting the launcher to his shoulder once it is securely in place, though he does not pull the trigger just yet after checking the sights once more. An ear flicking towards Kesslan once he reaches that point.

"Now lower launcher. Show you will how to unload proper. At times this thing must you do. Sometime missile launch will not proper. Other time must you unload because no longer need have you to fire." Kesslan says, as he waits for Desmond to lower the weapon, continuing his instruction once this has been done. "First open rear as shown you have." once that's done Kesslan will reach over and unseat the missile slowly pulling it out part way "This how unseat." he says, seating the missile in place and unseating it again before seating it fully into place once more. "Practice this few times. Then more shall we do." But while Desmond practices Kesslan continues on with other portions of the instruciton. "If missile fire not right away, careful must you be. Fuel for missile may burning be and ignite moments later. Insantly these never fire even when work proper. Big blast of flame from back of weapon trhough vents here." he says indicating the vents in question on the rear of the missile launcher. "Almost all launcher vents as this have. Blast burn will all behind you for some distance. Large missile burn great deal, small missile as this not much does. STill careful must you be or risk you set friend on fire, or other thing around you such as ammunition. This not good thing is. Ever must you be sure with such a weapon that behind you clear is of things that danger to you or fellow claws posed could be if fired."

Desmond lowers the launcher carefully when asked, laying it lengthwise. Opening it up as dictated, watching as the round is unseated, then reseated. He nods his head noce as he starts to practice unseating and removing, then replacing the test missile. Repetition is a strong part of learning, moreso with this. Learning just how it feels to do it. To need to think less and simply do. "Yes, I have seen some of these weapons in the field. I will have to, when I purchase one, see that I know the level of flame that comes from the rear."

"Good. Remember well then this." Kesslan instructs before ordering Desmond to reload once again. "Now, tank there at 500 marking of, aim for this and fire." he says, pointing to the indicated shot up tank. Though as Desmond prepares to fire he starts to slowly circle, and delibeately before Desmond is actually ready to pull the trigger goes to stand directly behind the launcher. Testing to see if Desmond is actually keeping that necessary little bit of attention behind him before actually pulling the tirgger. Afterall with a mini-missile the back blast is relatively minor, and he's wearing his armor so at worst he winds up with some scorched paint, but a good demonstration of why one must be careful. When told to, Desmond prepares the launcher again, repeating the prior process learned. With more authority than before, though still holding some of that slow deliberateness. And when he does lift it back to his shoulder, settling into place and firming his stance, there is a sense of awareness of Kesslan's circling. He glances back towards the smaller feline, a brow arched slightly. "You will step to the side?"

There's a hidden almost feral grin beneath Kesslan's helmet at that question as he does as requested. A light pat offered on Desmond's shoulder as a congradulation on catching that move. His gaze then shifting studing Desmond's preperations to fire right up to seeing how well Desmond does at trying to hit the stationary target itself. His posture every bit subtly pointing to strict military training. Held.. just so.

Desmond allows his eyes to scan teh area behind him before he faces forward again. His accolade taken steadily as he focuses on firing the weapon once more. It's different than any he's had before, firing from a braced position atop the shoulder. Thus when he does finally fire off the launcher, the aim is off considerably, to the side and low a few degrees.

"You must improve." Kesslan says with a demanding and somewhat chiding tone. But it's still got a certain edge of understanding. Or perhaps sipmly expectation that Desmond would not do quite so well with his first shot. "Will show you too now how as team to work with other. Kneel you but hold in fire position. Keep track on target. I reload for you will for two shots, so see you how working with other improve time for loading of weapon." As he says this he moves over towards the box of training missiles, picking one up and shfiting so that he's slightly behind and to the side of Desmond.

Desmond does frown slightly at his own poor shot. "This is quite new," he muses aloud, though it does not stop him from responding to the next step in his training. Dipping to a knee, holding the launcher in the ready to fire position. He will shift the launcher just a bit, to let him turn his head and regard the actual act of reloading from the back. Unless told not to, of course. Natural curiosity, but he keeps the launcher up either way and is ready to firm it on his shoulder and fire once it has been loaded. They're still off, but with each new shot he'll work to steady his aim and zero in on the zone he needs to find.

The large battle cat will no doubt note that once Kesslan reloads the launcher, which does indeed go faster with one reloader and one person to fire, that he gives Desmond's helmet a good rap. Enough to catch attention but not actually cause any shift of Desmond's head or helmet. "Always make sure you must to let other know proper loaded and set the weapon is. So too when aim you, squeeze triger slightly as if sniper rifle firing were you. Take time, range target proper. SOme launcher have laser to help range set, some guided by laser. Other only say what range as this, and then sight use you to follow and strike target. Calculate too must you to small part for wind if high. Most such weapon not laser follow, but larger ones find can you that such things can do." Kesslan explains, going so far as to load a third round before moving away. "Now rest reload on your own do you. So proper feel can you have for such a thing. Try to improve on speed of this best can you."

"Yes, a laser need not accommodate for the effects of the environment, it will take some time to adjust to that, along with the posture this is held in," Desmond confirms. Though he does check Kesslan for a moment to make sure that he's out of the way of the blow back once more before he focuses forward to fire off this next shit, squeezing as he attempts to place the rocket on the tank. This one wizzes a bit high, though is centered, arcing down a distance behind. "In time will you understand how such thing work. Energy weapons on this world there are many, on Seriv untill Atorian had we but rare few. Then when such thing exist only prototype made by those very knowing in the science of things or perhaps what call you here on this world 'Magic'." the Pantheran explains calmly, as if reciting to a classroom rather than just one person. "Practice more shots on own. When comfortable feel you with this thing move on will we to railgun. This more like laser is in some way but too very very different."

"Yes, there will be kickback to contend with," Desmond muses, already considering the use of the railgun, even as he lowers the launcher to start working the next missile in. He goes through the loading process a bit faster, though he still keeps doing so steadily. Not rushing it, for in this moment he has the time to immerse himself in the actions. Imprinting the actions into his thoughts. Lifting after each to aim carefully, then squeeze off the next round. One actually does hit, another glances near, but most of the shots go wide, to right, left, above and down as he tries to find that perfect spot. He nears it, but it is to be the process of days, rather than hours. But he does not despair, each shot taken with care and focus.

A few shots after however, and Desmond will find he is out of ammunition alas. "One thing must you too remember of such weapons. Much damage can they do, yes. And to great area. But ammunition for things as these much room takes up. Even one as strong as you could only carry so many before too bulky became even if weight issue was not. Other modles of launchers much better thing than this. Have magazine that in back go so other need you not to reload for you. Others still made to fire and drop for not ment to reused be such as the one Kesslan often carries into battle." Kesslan explains. "So now move on to Railgun do we when last shots for day with launcher taken have you."

Desmond nods his head amid the shooting. "A weapon such as this is best used sparingly, when it can do the most damage to the most targets possible." Once he has expended the last of the practice ammunition, he removes the launcher from his shoulder for the last time. "I shall have to study what is available and find the weapon that suits me best," he adds, rising from his crouched position to turn and face Kesslan.

"Truth." Kesslan admits "Best such a thing to do is for each warrior." he turns to indicate the railgun this time, crouching by it and a box of railgun rounds. "Now, one important thing must you remember of railguns is that unlike laser weapon have it solid ammunition. Common is fed from clip or belt. Most common from belt. Problems there are with belts however. Twisted wrong way can jam, or snap. Thus run you out of ammo. But good points too, for belts linked can be so much ammunition can have you. One as you perhaps could even entire drum carry so ammunition only small thing to worry of in very large, long fight."

"It does sound to be a more troublesome weapon to deal with," Desmond opines as Kesslan describes a railgun. "For use of belt-fed ammunition, I refer to. It reminds me of why I prefer laser weaponry. Much simpler and cleaner." A simple observation given. "That is not an excuse not to learn, for surely I do intend to tame the unwieldy weapon."

Kesslan shrugs a little, his mood oddly shifting down a few notches from earlier. Perhaps it's simply the slightly more conversational method that he's slowly weaned into or, something else entirely. "STill, much range and power have these weapons, so too are they good against certain targets energy weapons not as good against. Some of those with the ability to weave spells can against energy weapons become resistant to more, so too are there armours made by the Atorian and others that against such weapons mroe resistant are, lasers especially. Less so often for things as railgun however. But even here it is a thing one consider must. But in end, such weapons are not things of elegance, oncept is to put much ammunition into target and tear appart, or supress enemy so affraid are they to return fire lest hit be they."

"You speak truth, my friend." Though Desmond pauses after he says as much, considering Kesslan. "But, before we begin this, I wonder.. is something troubling you? Or do recent events still weigh upon you?" He takes a step towards Kesslan, a hand lifted to be laid on his shoulder. "I do not mind your firm teaching method. In some ways, it is a better way to teach. But I am concerned for you."

"I will be fine Desmond." Kesslan says, simply his tone somewhat kept "As to my method of teaching... it is the only way know I. It is the way Atorian taught me, and remember not do I the way my people teach each other for most part. Too young was I at the time and too much war and blood have I seen since. Too many of the lashes of those working for Atorian." he says softly, before trying to push ahead with the training. "So for making sure the chain does not kink or break have you for many of these weapons a protective feed shell. Helps guide the chain straight and true and armors it so that in battle it is not easily disrupted."

Desmond nods once to what Kesslan tells him and seems to be willing to lit it slide for now. He listens closely to the discussion of the ways of belt fed ammo and nods his head once. "Show me all that you can, I will listen," he states, letting business come back into the equation entirely. And, for this day, it will remain so and Desmond will be a most attentive and focused pupil.
