THE NUT AND BOLT

Sometimes loud places are good places to be, and Pavel looks right at home up at a place he's found on the robot leg bar counter. He's chatting it up with a few people around him, though clearly the "chatting" is fairly difficult if not impossible considering the severe accent and general noise. On the other hand, this is one of those places with a lot of tech, so electronic translators are everywhere. Sure, two in the afternoon might be kind of early for proper society to consider it time to drink, but his swinging of a glowing, neon-green drink belies the issue.

Erica walks into the bar wearing her urban camo fatigues. She looks around for a bit before spotting Pavel. Seeing the large man she walks up to him, and she leans against the robotic leg. Gesturing to the bartender she calls out for a beer before turning to Pavel, and smiling at him in greeting. "Hey. How are you doing?" She calls out loud enough to be heard.

Pavel's head turns in the direction of a known voice, and he smiles widely spotting Erica. In Euro, he announces, << I'm good, I'm good! People like you, other people are starting to order more items. I'm in the middle of negotiations to buy a horse so that I can get around better when things come up like knocking around lions. How are you? Early drinking? That's what I'm being told by these jokers. >> He gives the man near him a strong push, which seems to be well-taken.

Erica returns Pavel's smile with a smile of her own. "Good glad to hear you are starting to get some business. How is my cross and knife coming along?" She ask before flashing the bartender a quick smile as she gets her beer. She takes a long pull from the pint glass before setting it down. "I thought I would have an early start and go to town."

Pavel leans his head back and shouts something in Russian that is probably not very kind. After another shake of his head, he peers over at Erica - takes a drink of neon fizz - and says, << The people selling me the silver? They still haven't gotten back to me. It should happen soon, though. I have been working on my horses, so I have a beautiful one for you, and a design that looks good to surround it. If you think it's acceptable, I'd like to emboss it with >> he transitions to Russian - Pokazát Vash vrag Kuz'kinu mat'. << The cross and necklace, I haven't started yet. Other jobs to take care of that need to be done first. I have to put the people ahead of you sometimes, I'm afraid. >>

Erica waves her hand dismissively. "I am sure whatever you come up with will look great. I look forward to looking at the designs. Of course. Do what you have to do. I am in no rush. Not like there are a lot of vampires about." She shrugs her shoulders briefly and then takes a sip from her drink. "So what kind of horse are you going to buy?"

<< What, you aren't even curious about what I'm going to carve into your blade? I could be insulting your heritage and laughing as you strap it to your thigh and wade into combat! >> Pavel is joking, of course. Well, maybe. He does have a curious sense of humor, and really isn't known terribly well by people yet. He toasts Erica with his neon fizz. << I need a strong horse. Big horse. Brave horse. A Friesian would be perfect, but I don't know if there are any around. Basically something that can carry me and carry my heavy things, but do it quickly and not bolt if something unexpected jumps out at us. Not for combat, just not running away from combat. >> He offers a wide and toothy smile. << I know my horses. I've been riding them since the day after I proved that I could walk. I'm sure that you'll smirk about my method of transportation though? >>

"Sure I am curious. I am just saying that what you design will be great. I trust you to do something that looks nice." Erica says with a smile after taking a long sip from her pint of beer. "I am sure there are plenty of big horses about. Plenty of need for them. Horses are great animals. I have nothing against them. I just prefer a little more speed out of my transportation."

<< Yes, I know. They won't keep up with one of your flying things. Trouble is, I can buy a good horse with all of those qualities save for not spooking at loud noises for 2,000 credits. But the man trying to sell me the exact same horse who won't bolt at a loud noise wants ten times that much! That's usury! I'm not riding the damn thing into battle with a lance and a shield. >> Pavel shakes his head in complaint. He then smirks and offers, << A good thing about horses? Fuel is free, and you can find it anywhere you go! HA! >> He moves on to explain the saying, which may or may not be a good explanation. << What I'm putting on your blade, it means 'Show Your Enemy Kuzma's Mother' >>

"I like horses a lot, they are really pretty animals. I just haven't had much experience with them. I guess there is just a lot of demand for combat trained animals." Erica says after shrugging her shoulders and then taking a long drink. "I don't know what that means. What is a Kuzma?"

Pavel nods along with Erica's statements. << Yes, beautiful animals. Kuzma is a man, not a thing. >> He holds out a hand and clarifies, << A fictional man from a fairytale. In the tale, Kuzma's mother was a horrific woman, a terrible bitch whom you'd never want to meet. The direct translation isn't clear, I understand. Basically, in what you would understand, it means that you will be showing your enemy brutality and no quarter. I'm sure that there are saying in American that are equally meaningless to people who don't speak it, right? >> The large fellow drains his drink and turns away just for moment, ordering something new. Mixing your poisons is apparently not a problem for him.

Erica finishes off her beer, and places the empty glass on the bar. She gestures to the bartender for another pint. "Sounds like an interesting fairytale, but I am not sure that, that motto would apply to me. I am neither brutal, nor would I show no quarter. I only kill when I have no other choice." She says with a slight shake of her head.

Pavel looks at Erica oddly. << This is a silver blade, I assume that it's for vampires. Perhaps I'm wrong? >> He slides his head sideways even further. << I would think that from what I've heard of vampires, when you encounter one, killing them is a given, with no other choice. My information is wrong? >> The tone of his voice clearly allows that yes, he could well be wrong.

"Well mainly for vampires, but there are other things that don't like silver. I guess you are right that would be a good motto for vampires." Erica says after a moment thinking. "I guess I was thinking of it as a general motto instead of just applying to vampires." She smiles briefly at the bartender as she gets her next beer and she takes a sip from it.

The large man smiles and nods, likely happy that he wasn't too far off base. << If you ever want me to make something else for you, or even simply decorate something, I'll make sure to come up with something more.. peaceful? Killing when there is no choice is still killing. I'm not judging. I've seen people kill, and I've seen people kill because it had to be done, and there doesn't seem to be much of a difference. >> Pavel's normally loud and jaunty exterior has quieted down significantly for a serious subject.

"I'll think about what else you could make for me." Erica says with a slight nod of her head. "Yes killing is still killing, but killing when you don't have to can twist up a person. I don't want that to happen to me." She says with a slight shake of her head before she takes a long drink form her beer.

Pavel nods vigorously. << Yes, yes. Mercenaries, they are generally evil people. Not much better than demons, or the armies of the other warlords. Yet all good things follow when you decide to get down, get your hands dirty and accomplish the goal at hand. You can't fight evil without tasting it yourself. >> He thrusts a third drink toward his conversation partner, this time something not just glowing neon, but glowing and fizzing a color that keeps changing. << You will like this! Get yourself drunk like these people, you'll feel better. Perhaps I can make you some armor someday, if you can afford the materials. It's good, something that you can wear under your clothes. >> He gestures toward Erica's urban wear.

Erica looks at the drink with a raised eyebrow, and then she lets out a little laugh. She picks up the glass and takes a long sip from it. "Mmm that tastes good. Perhaps you can. I don't like to wear armor when I don't have to. It chafes, and I try to take good care of my skin. But if it didn't chaff or pinch I could."

Pavel shrugs. << It would be light. You could probably find a seamstress to encase it in something flowing, if your skin is really that delicate. >> Doesn't sound like an insult at all, just a statement. << Sometimes it's good to be able to walk around in public with armor. Particularly armor that people are unaware of? Allows an attacker overconfidence? >>

"It would be a great advantage indeed." Erica says with a smile and a nod of her head. "I try to take very good care of my skin. I don't want it to age too fast." She says with a chuckle before she takes a long drink from the beverage you got her. "I will think about that, but you would have to give me an idea of how much it would cost. I don't think it would be cheap."

Pavel quickly agrees. << No, it would not be cheap. But I did manage to purchase a very large load of common steel, at a very good price. At least that will help in the future. >> He drains the rest of his drink in one long pull, and gets to his feet. << It may have been early to drink, but it's still plenty early to get back out and do my best to seal from associations. There is a woman, Sage, who may be interested in buying my finer crafts. But, nothing will happen unless I speak with people. Please though you enjoy your drinks, I'll cover them for you; you need the money more than I do right now. >> He smiles and places a decent amount of credits on the counter, pushing them toward the barkeep. << That should cover a few bottles of your favorite inebriant. I'll see you somewhere else, some other time, I'm sure. >> He grins widely, attempts to playfully swat Erica's shoulder, and starts to leave.

"Alright Pavel. Thank you. I'll be thinking of you while I get drunk." Erica says with a grin and a quick wink towards Pavel. "Have a good night out." She calls out as she takes a long sip from her drink. "I look forward to getting that cross, and that knife from you."

<< Of course. I'll give you the price when I get the price. HA! >> Then Pavel is officially moving out, soon to be gone.
