Kingsdale - Fighting For Life! The ATPDS Colossus is truly massive. Over three kilometers from bow to stern, it is a tremendous maze of hallways, access tubes and many other such passageways. What has made it even worse is that main power looks to be half offline. Lighting is out for the most part, leaving flickering red emergency lights to illuminate the way. Here and there there are signs in an alien language and in English directing one to a gravity lift, a hangar bay or some other things. The ship has been victim of a massacre. Some time ago as the bodies are in a state of advanced decay, which contributes to the charnel-house smell of the place, someone -- guess whom -- boarded the ship and killed off all of the crew. At every corner and every passageway, there are some bodies. Some are robots, some are men. The armored walls are scarred with weapons fire and blast marks and here and there an armored blast door has closed down over a broken port to the outdoors. But once and awhile, despite the horror of this place, something amazing is seen. An intact window shows a slowly rotating field of stars outside -- the inky depths of the great unknown. The ship is in some sort of residual rotation that the robots have not bothered or are unable to correct, and every few minutes comes one of the greatest wonders of nature that anyone could hope to ever see: A binary star. The massive, blue-white shape of a tiny hot star circles the aged and expansive shape of a red supergiant. And then the Colossus rotates some more and takes it out of vision. The ship is eerily quiet and the feeling is taht both sides exhausted each other in the fight to claim the ship, leaving few of the victorious parties still alive. The deckplates vibrate gently too, indicating that the ship is under thrust.

The Park is surprisingly busy today with the Kingsdale Militia having gathered in all sorts of fashion to see the VCF folk off and provide security. Groups one through three have all been organized by Zaphod, or Carl depending and each has a different purpose. The plan is for each to step through onto the vessel in question fifteen minutes apart and to a different location. Team One, or this one, is to be dropped near the bridge with the express purpose of taking the bridge and holding it. Ironically, not destroying it. The purpose for this has been known to the team not very long ago: The command section functions as a life pod of sorts. The vessel must be destroyed, but is too large to do conventionally. Team three is inputting navigational co-ordinates for the jump drive into null space -- a place where the vessel cannot exist. Team 2 is seizing the only other place where this can be done, and Team One is securing the bridge and thereby the escape route. As soon as the co-ordinates are input, both other teams are supposed to rendevous on the bridge so that the command center can be seperated from the ship. A very tight time window -- fifteen minutes from when the co-ordinates are input.

Zaphod stands near the KDM represenative who is going to control the device that will call the ship to pick them up and is absent-mindedly feeding rounds into a shoulder-fired missile launcher as he waits. "Two minutes." He says, loudly. "And I want a talk for a second. Team, Huddle!"

Renos, knowing what is coming, has known for a long time, ever since he heard it from the source so long ago, steps up to Zaphod, giving his custom weapons a last check before sliding back the plate. The glowing crystal showing his tw modifications on it. "So...about time." Is about all he says as he walks to the circle, paying attention.

Anita has been lying on the ground, enjoying a catnap, but rouses quickly when she hears their commander's voice. She rises to her feet and trots over to Zaphod. "Sir!" She has a shotgun ready by her side.

Celaeno moves toward Zaphod, staying slightly farther back than might be the norm, but she's listening. She double checks her equipment idly as everybody else assembles.

After hearing about this mission, Rune was quick to volunteer to go. Dressed in his odd bug like armor, has a carrying case strapped to his back, a Wilks pistol on his hip, and some miscellaneous gear. As everyone starts to get ready, Rune makes his way towards the designated spot near Zaphod.

Hayate stands at ease near the outskirts of the milita, but he hears the call and he slips through the crowd to appear more or less at Zaphods side, anonymous in his custom repainted armor. "I'm here. His black visor is seen to pan around at everyone and he nods slightly at each one, a hidden smile on his lips.

Zaphod continues feeding his mini-missile rounds into his launcher thoughtfully. "Wipe the smiles off your faces." He says, quietly. "If I see any excessive braggadocio, gallantry or anyone puts anyone else at risk; I'll send you back to Kingsdale. I'm not interested in carrying a message, I'm not interested in looking cool, and I'm especially not interested in theatrics. Most of you, I haven't fought with before -- but I'll make this clear. If you jeopardize the mission and get yourself hurt, I'm going to leave you there and leave you behind. Because it's going to be the only way that this gets finished. So don't be stupid, don't get yourselves killed. We have a relatively easy job. Take the bridge, kill everyone and everything on it and hold it. As far as we know, there aern't many robots left on the ship. Collateral damage is to be kept to a minimum. If we damage the wrong equipmnt in there, we're all fucked. Any questions?"

"No, but one comment." Renos says quietly. "This is unlike most battlegrounds you have faced. If you miss, you are likely to hit the wall. This is not normally a problem, as the outside is most like the inside. However...if you hit a wall in HERE, we can all die. Its a vacuum, and you won't be able to breathe on the outside. Keep your shots sure, and your aim steady, if you must fire. We might be forced to go into melee. Take this as an educated guess, but better safe than sorry."

Anita offers Zaphod a sharp salute, but it probably doesn't help that she says, "Yes, sir. I will make sure to be very careful and a good team mate for everyone. I am very glad to be on the team." The thing here is that she sounds sincere. She sounds really quite happy to be on board.

Celaeno just shrugs, remaining quiet at the call for questions. Renos seems to draw the bulk of her attention, as she looks over his equipment at large. With her hand running to her vibrosword's hilt, an unseen frown lingers slightly, and she turns away from the group, taking a few steps back away from everyone.

"I may need an extra e-clip or two for my Wilks. If that is do-able?" This is all Rune asks since he only has one, from the last mission. The armored man seems serious to the point that its clear he has no intention of going against anything Zaphod has stated. As he turns to ask this question, a very unique looking sword can be scene. Hayate nods, and he shakes his head at the request for questions. His shoulders flex and he folds his arms across his slim chest. "Just point me in the right direction. I don't use guns ayway." He says, motioning at the blade hilt sticking up behind his helmeted head, despite the small unfamiliar looking pistol holstered at his side.

Zaphod glances sidelong at Hayate. "If you melee with the wrong one of these things, then you're going to wish that you did. Use your brain when it comes to it." He reaches into his belt and tosses Rune an E-Clip and then slings the missile launcher over his shoulder. He adjusts his vibro sword, along with the alien blade sheathed upon the other hip. "I will go first. Followed by Renos. I want you there to keep an eye on technical things. Anita, you will come third and guard renos. Celaeno, stay way back. Rune, after Anita, Hayate, you will be responsible for guarding Rune and Renos. Stay with the group and handle anything that comes into it. I will float. Renos is correct -- the hallways will have a risk of exposing us to vacum. The bridge is well armored, but we wish to preserve teh controls there. Do not stop to frig with things."

He nods to the person with the control unit and a blue beam descends from the air and a small rift opens, just big enough for Anita to squeeze through that opens onto a hallway. Zaphod steps through, missile launcher at the ready as he adopts a defensive stance for everyone else.

Renos hefts his rifle at the man and his missile launcher. There is a small shake of his head. "Hope he isn't packing explosive rounds." He then steps through the rift as if the thing doesn't even exist and he is taking a somewhat strained stroll. His rifle pointing up at a 45 degree angle, and in his right hand. He puts his left hand into his mouth to tug off the glove.

Anita nods eagerly. "Yes, sir! I will guard him with my everything!" She immediately moves considerably closer to Renos, and will follow him as close as possible without actually being in the way. She raises her shotgun and looks alert.

Nodding, Celaeno slides her rifle around, reading it for use, waiting for everybody else to move through before doing so herself. She is, indeed, staying well back, - 15 to 20 feet - from everybody else as they move through the portal. Her rifle is pointed down slightly, but she doesn't seem especially concerned.

Rune grabs the e-clip as it is tossed and then nods to the instructions. With that Rune, waits for Anita and will follow right behind her.

Hayate nods breifly, not bothering to comment on the melee suggestion. But his orders are clear now. Bodyguard for Rune and Renos. He could handle that, and then some. He follows Rune through into the rift.

"If you wish to assume that I don't know what I'm doing you are welcome to return to Kingsdale while the way is still open, Renos." Zaphod states. "Likewise, if you wish to question me again." He then turns to point down the hallway. "Seventy meters in this direction, then one turn to the right and that will bring us to the main airlock to the bridge. Move out. I don't expect any resistance until we reach it." And so, he begins to march; keeping his weapon at the ready until eventually the party comes to one of the windows. There, even he can't help but take a split second to look out at the view before moving on. Tick.

There is a bit of a smirk to Zaphod from Renos. "Relax. It was only a comment. we need to keep a bit of our wits if we wish to make it out. Besides, who will save your skin once things go wrong?" He then looks over to Anita and sees she is rather close. "Look, relax, miss. Just take a few deep breaths, and try and relax." He then holsters his rifle and pulls out his pistol.

Anita sticks real close to Renos, but she has a question on her mind, but it doesn't stay there. It's voiced. "Sir, if Renos is sent back, do I have to leave with him?" It's an earnest question. She looks down at Renos and nods rapidly. "Yes, but I will protect you." It still doesn't stop her from looking out the window for a few moments, but while the sight delights her, a smile filling her face, she quickly looks away, she has someone to protect.

Celaeno follows the group at her own pace. Really, if one were to look at the group, she'd be counted separate. We're talking unpopular girl at the party distance, here. Of course, she doesn't seem especially concerned about this, and when she finally gets to a window, she takes her time looking out, beginning to hum a rather up-tempo and discordant song under her breath as she goes.

Rune follows through, as he makes it, he reaches behind his cape and brings out his sword. This sword carries a certain baroque attractiveness in form and style, it is clear that whoever made it was a master bladesmith. The sword appears to have been out fitted with vibro-blade technology as well. As Rune takes this blade out, he too is caught by the stars outside and is caught by its beauty. But as the other start to speak his attention is turned to the hallway. His eyes go from one side to the other, trying to take note of anything that might catch his attention.

Weather at Thu Jan 28 13:45:16 106 PA (-2.39C, 27.69F): The dense fog obstructs a view of nearly everything, permitting only objects at most a few meters away to be seen. The utter uniformity of view, pure white fog, only intensifies your dwelling on the cold.

Hayate keeps his charges safe, yo. And looks cool doing it.

True to Zaphod's word, at the end of the corridor is a large airlock that has a control panel on it. Waiting for everyone to be assembled and ready, he clears his throat. "Enter hot. Shoot anything that moves . . . . . just mind the walls." The button for the airlock is pressed, and a warning tone sounds and the doors refuse to budge. "Renos, see if you can figure out what the issue is. Everyone else, defensive perimiter." Zaphod glances at Anita sidelong. "Correct. You will escort him to team two's rift-in point along with any wounded. We can hope that this will not be an issue, however."

"Right." He then moves to the door panel and looks at it for a moment. "Hopefully, the Earth of this Universe is still using american." He then starts to check out the button and then looking around for a moment. He moves to a console and starts to tap it. "Well, thats good....Bridge is unpressurized. Probably to keep us out. Robots wouldn't need it." He then starts to do something with the keys. "Hrm, can't seem to get atmo to it..."

The airlock is big, too. About fifteen feet high. And about fifteen feet wide.

Anita nods rapidly. "Yes, sir!" She kneels, reducing her profile and keeping her shotgun ready. At least she keeps her mouth shut.

Looking slightly on edge as they get to the airlock, Celaeno moves into it, still edging away from the rest of the group - she must really dislike you guys. At the statement that, hey, things aren't working, she moves a little ways out of the airlock, waiting for things to get themselves sorted before coming back in.

Without being on the bridge yet or to the doors that lead directly to the bridge, Rune keeps the sword in hand, instead of the pistol. His hands grip the base firmly as if in a past life he was some sort of swordsman. Odd for one wearing Magus Armor.

Hayate still keeps his charges safe. And god damn it, does he look cool. So he looked a little less cool for a second.

"Right." Zaphod says to Renos. "Do what you need to do. We'll need to get it open. If you can't get atmosphere in there, we'll have to look at other methods."

At this point, a sort of creaking sound is heard from the depths of the dead ship along with a rhythmic metallic banging. It is quite slow, maybe a bang every three seconds or so -- but it does seem to be getting closer. "And you'll want to hurry with that." He says.

"Defensive perimeter. Anita, Hayate, Celaeno, up front."

"Like I had a whole lot of time anyway. They were bound to notice us." Renos smiles a little. "Hrm, well...lets see. They are probably better, but lets try some conventional things. I would hate to try and physocally force the doors open." He then takes a flat head screwdriver to pry out the panel access below the console, in case he needs the wiring. Once done, he will stand up, and start hooking some equipment up to help him bypass security locks.

Anita rises again, but only to obediently scramble up in front, where she once more kneels. It no doubts reduces the odds of catching some friendly fire too. She shoulders the shotgun, ready to deal with anything bad that might stick its evil head up and say hi.

Celaeno grumbles slightly into her radio as she follows the others to the front, still trying to maintain her distance. Her rifle brought up slightly, she doesn't seem to be especially excited about being stuck. She keeps glancing back at Renos and the others. Mainly Renos.

Rune simply holds his blade, but does look over to Renos, "..Renos if you need help I do know programming and operations in such things.." The man says from under his helmet.

Hayate looks really cool as he moves to protect people.

The rhythmic, metallic banging is getting a good deal closer. And faster. Eventually it is revealed to be footsteps - just from that distance, only the more dull sounds and waves were getting through the deckplate. Though well before they arrive . . . . something very large flies through the air near to the party. It is a vaugely humanoid looking thing, though from the pelvis down is only a giant ball. The left arm is a giant, multi-barrel gattling gun of some kind while the other one ends in in a standard, humanoid-configuration hand. Whatever it is is fast, too. Very, very fast as it takes up a firing position; hovering in the passageway near the airlock as the banging continues.

Drifting as though upon some anti-gravity engine (And, surprise surprise it actually is), this oddly shaped robot orientates itself to properly face the group and raises the tri-barreled gattling weapon that makes up the left hand. It begins to spin, and then with a soft trilling sound a series of ruby-red laser pulses go downrange towards Renos.

Zaphod is down on one knee. No, he is not asking Hayate to marry him. What he is actually doing is sighting in his boon companion, the WI-23 Missile Launcher that has seen him through so very many fights against these mechanical nasties. Looking through the eyescope he waits until the Robot is against one of the internal bulkheads and not something that might vent them all to space. A loud woosh is heard and the hallway fills with white colored rocket exhaust as a missile goes streaking downrange.

As the Robot flies into the room, Rune would attack but noticing Zaphod, Rune doesn't want to get into hand to hand with that thing, not yet. Instead he makes his way towards Reno's direction to see if he can be of any assistance.

Anita aims her shotgun at the robot. She fires. It's considerably less impressive than that thing Zaphod just fired, but every little bit helps. Right?

Celaeno brings her rifle up as the robot's shot rings out, hitting Renos. Content to keep her distance from, well, everything, she backs away slightly, nestling her shoulder into a corner before lifting up her Chameleon and squeezing off a triple-pulse at it. She's still grumbling, though. Apparently being trapped in an airlock with a rabid robot and missile exhaust wasn't what she was hoping for.

"Look...this is hard enough without your inp...OH...shit!" He then dives to the side as a massive arc of electricity arcs through the console panel, the lights seem to flicker, and then the whole thing just turns off. "FUCK!" HE then runs over to it, and slams his fist against the wall. "Dammit!" He throws his weapon to the side and pulls out his electric tools. "Going to have to rig this back up before I can do anything. Why did they make the cords all the same color?" There is a grunt of some pain as he gets shot by a laser. A hole in his armor is burnt. "Keep that thing off me."

Hayate looks up finally from the medative semi trance he had been in, focusing himself through his long years of intense training and focusing his powers through that. "You fucked with my charge... big mistake..." He mutters, though likely noone hears him as his external speakers are off. The pistol at his side is snapped from it's holster and he takes but a moment to line up the weapon and he squeezes off a shot.

Quite thickly armored, this particular flying metal beastie. Zaphod's missile crashes into the left side of the torso where it explodes and makes a nice little divot. Anita's shotgun therapy gouges out another crescent near the pectoral and Celano's rifle makes some of the armor glow over the navel. Hayate's pistol shot hits it in the ball beneath the waist that seems to be the source of it's locomotion. Naughty comments will be spanked. Either way, it points teh humanoid arm at Renos and lets go a little beam of coherant light as the gattling blaster recharges.

Zaphod doesn't hesitate. "Anita, give Renos some cover. Go park over top of him or something. You have to be easier to hit than he is." And then, he'll press the firing stud -- ooh, stud -- and another missile will go zipping off. It is very curious that he has painted the nosecones of them with a gigantic yellow smiley face and 'To Robots, With Love, Zaphod.'. Someone has had too much time to prepare for this.

As the Robot takes another shot at Renos, Rune attempts to get in the way of the flying beams, but is to slow to be of any effect. Turned now to face both the robot and Renos, Rune places his sword away and pulls out his pistol now, but just not enough time to use it.

There may be rockets and gunfire filling the air, with lasers and plasma exchanged between the robot and her team, but Anita keeps her cool and remains kneeling. She lines up another shot, calmly but she doesn't waste time with elaborate aiming; the important thing is filling the air with flying hurt, isn't it? She hears the order, but as she has that tempting shot lined up, she squeezes the trigger quickly and rises. "Yes, sir!" She trots over to Renos and places herself between him and the robot. It's nice to be used as mobile cover. "I will protect you, Renos."

So, the stupid robot won't just go down? Okay, fine. That's fine. The door may be closed, there may be exhaust everywhere, but at least it's shooting at somebody else, right? Even if that somebody else is the one who's, y'know, trying to get them out of this place. So, she squeezes off another triple-pulse, still squeezing as far away from everybody else as possible.

"SHIT!" Renos gets another hole burnt into his armor. "Yeah..." He then shakes his head. "Hope you do. My armor can't take much more of that." He glances down only a moment, seeing two holes perforating the armor. He then takes one tool in his teeth, and the other two in his hands, and begins to try and patch some power to get the panel working again.

Hayate eyes Anita taking cover over his charge, he nods as he can't be in two places at once, and he does the same for Rune, putting himself between the bot and the the other man, to take any damage thrown his way. A few more shots crack into the heavily armored torso plate of the flying machine, gouging out armor in all directions. It weaves and bobs a little through the air and then the gattling cannon begins spinning again . . . . though this time a luminsecent crimson glow begins to build. Whomever gets this one is going to be getting something quite nasty by the look of it. "Organics will not be successful." It states. "Renforcements are coming. You cannot possibly hope to hold."

Zaphod is lining up his missile launcher to fire again when the thing opens fire on him first. A wash of rapid-fire laser beams sear him from toes all the way up to the top of his helmet. Thankfully, the armor holds but it has seen better days. It looks a little like someone has scorched the entire front of his mass with a lighter. Even his visor is half melted. "Armor at twenty percent durability." He states calmly and collectedly, recovering and launching another missile.

Well, it doesn't count as the third time if it misses. So once more, with feeling! Or not, as the gun's pointed at Celaeno now? Well, that's certainly new, and bad. She's seen what that gun can do, so she does a rather graceful leaping roll away from the wall, right smack-dab in the middle of the room. Of course, as she looks around, she realizes where she is, surrounded by everybody else. So she tries, as quickly as she might, to get back to her now-scorched corner.

"Ya know...I doubt that you could. Can you jury rig an unfamiliar system with no colored wires to bypass the damaged areas to make the system force a restart? Now, when you blow that hunk of junk apart, then you can do something useful. Otherwise, shut up and let me work." He says, a bit shortly, clearly irritated. Hayate swears under his breath at his inability to use a firearm, or the firearm's inability to function... either way he's pissed. The gun get's dropped and the juicer takes off, moving with startling speed, running full tilt at the metal monstrosity, pulling the seemingly small blade from his back sheath as he runs. He reaches the wall, and impossibly, up the wall he goes, running along it and up for several steps before leaping off and stabbing out with his blade.

The robot is surprisingly swift at melee attacks, considering that it is actually geared for ranged combat. There have been hints that these manhunter rhings are fiendishly strong; and fiendishly cunning. What is more odd is that it doesn't even attempt to defend against the incoming asian man and actually moes into the path of his blade. The weapon strikes at the shoulder and leaves a trail of glittering sparks down the length of the gattling gun arm. It bites deep and does not seem to dissipitate, indicating no major damage. But a huge right hand reaches out to catch the man by his leg for his trouble and redirect him towards Rune with utterly terriffic, armor-rending force. The kinetic energy behind the blow is positively ridiculous. Hayate will take damage, but . . . . . . will Rune too?

After pounding Hayate into Rune with such teriffic force, the robot in question seems to have a particular fixation upon this precise but not so controlled Asian man. The gattling weapon is still charging and so, it offers a mode of attack that has not been seen before. It simply lowers it's body and engages forward thrust; meaning to slam the other into the wall with enough force to leave a Hayate shaped dent in it.

The result of the blow is a fairly fantastic one and it does in fact, have the effect predicted. There is a rending colission of metal on body armor and then, not surprisingly, a sort of crunching sound and when it moves away from the now dented bulkhead, a very still Hayate. Team One appears to be dropping like flies.

Zaphod once again issues a command: "Press the attack. Renos, Good God, Man, get that door open!" He then reloads his missile launcher; throwing the now empty magazine aside and slapping a new one into it.

The sudden motion of the robot, and the flinging of the man into the other man seems to take Celaeno off guard, and as she takes her eyes off the target to watch the collision, her grip on the rifle becomes surprisingly circumspect, swinging free from her back hand and swinging a little wildly. Quickly bringing her attention back to the task at hand, she resecures her weapon, glancing around to see if anybody noticed.

Round 2, Action 2:

"YES!" Renos thrusts his fist into the air at the blur his fingers are making over the keypad as he reprograms the life support to get into the bridge. There is a slight sound behind the door, before it stops. "What...NO!!!!!!!!!" He yells out the words. "Fuck...going to have to do this the hard way...if I don't come back out...in 10 minutes...shoot me. I will most likely be lost, or dead." He then puts his hand to the console, and slumps.

Anita turns her head and stares down at Renos. "What? ...Shoot you? Yes, I will shoot you!" Back to shooting the robot. Or at least give it her best shot.

In the virtual world and the real world, things are happening in a nice sort of sync. Outside, Celaeno and Anita put two shots into the robot before Zaphod can even get his pistol clear. Both catch it through the damaged side torso where a plasma fire is already burning and spin it around with the force of the impact. They explode out the back and the thing collapses. For once, there is no building sound of a nuclear explosion to happen. Which is good as there is no Valerie to stand in it.

In the virtual world, the thing that Renos has been fighting has been doing something especially insidious. It isn't just eating him away -- it's merging with him. Exchanging bit of data for bit of data, presumably to return to the 'wetware' that he left behind . . . . only his attempt at defense is doubly successful. In addition to wounding the creature's own body, it also wounds that which has been absorbed from his.... and with a piercing shriek it dissapears. Within the bridge, a pressurized hiss of air is heard and the airlock doors open.

Zaphod's voice is immediatly heard. "Right. Anita, pick up Rune. Celaeno, get Hayate. Drag them back into the airlock and let's go." He takes a quick look in, and fortunatly the bridge is empty. "Once we're inside, adopt a defensive position and Anita will perform medical aid on these two. Stay here until Renos comes out of it, though. Everyone move."

Celaeno does as instructed, moving to pick up Hayate, though she grumbles slightly to herself about being told to stay away, then be near, and really just the whole thing at large.

Rune starts to wake up, but is unsure to what is going on, and just looks around from his hosted position.

Anita shoulders the shotgun and snaps off a quick salute. "Yes, sir!" She trots away from Renos, and instead sweeps up Rune carefully. "Relax," she tells him in a gentle tone. "You were hurt. You may have a concussion. Just lie still and I will get you to safety." If there's no struggling, she carries him all the way back to the airlock.

Renos opens his eyes wide, he then gasps, as the worn parts of his armor shows the struggle of the AI in the world, with cuts and slashes gouged into his flesh, and a gaping hole in his chest. There is a bit of difficult breathing as he crawls up to limp inside the bridge, and getting everything ready for seperation.
