The Log
Kelley takes another bite of sundae and says, "I'm hoping to get either Qur or Officer Raina to give me their parts, so that I can do more analysis. I suspect that tracking is possible, but I've yet to confirm such. Excellent question, though." Kelley looks thoughtful for a minute or two. "I would not expect that the robots have anything more than a passing acquaintence with the dinosaurs. Although - these rifts that keep poppng up - perhaps they are coming from the same dimension, somehow?"
Atticus gets his new bowl of chili with onions and cheese and stirs it all in, fixing his tea just so - the right amount of sugar, stirred in just so before he takes a sip from it. "You're already well beyond my capabilities. That I don't know at all," he adds.
Raina hmms softly at that, then shakes her head. "Think they are form the same dimention. There are reports of very similar dinos far to the south and east. Big swamp of them. Do these rifts allow hop-scotching of distances? And Mr. Kelley, the part will be availible shortly, I'm sure. It was a couple of the motor pool guys wanted to measure it to try to mock up something for practice targeting."
"Mr. Atticus, what's with the sugar packets?" Kelley asks after a long period of trying not to pry. "Yes, I suppose it's possible, Officer Raina. I've done my share of dimensional tra- er, rifts can be very unpredictable. I wouldn't rule out the dinosaurs coming from the robot world, or the other way around. It just doesn't quite seem to fit, enormous biologicals coming from an obviously highly technological society."
Kid nudges her way into the door, nearly knocking over a man who was on his way out. The young woman has a purpose and she takes a few steps in before scanning the room with intent attention. Spying just who she's after, she starts forward, cutting right in front of another group of people without an ear for their protests as she leaves them behind. Won't take her long to roll right up to the where Raina and her conversational partners are settled. Not given to politeness at the moment, she interrupts, eyes on Raina. "I have a proposition for you," she states, arms crossing over her chest. The serious look on her face mixes oddly with her fanciful manner of dress, especially since she hasn't taken the time to divest herself of her winter accessories.
Raina lets her gaze swing over to Kid as she lifts her mug for a sip. Both brows arching upwards as she asks after the sip. "Not certain I'm used to being propositioned, miss." a small grin showing for a moment before she sips again. "What might it be? And how much trouble?"
Atticus eyes the sugar packets, arranging one just so, "It helps me relax. To have them in order and stuff. And I like making little images with them," he points out to Kelley. "I know, it's a bit .. I don't know the word. Weird. But I did live alone for like fifty years, basically in a hut in a tiny village. So that's my excuse," he adds before falling silent as Kid speaks.
Kelley nods at Atticus, feeling slightly sorry for the man - not terribly sorry, but slightly sorry - and smirks at Raina's comment. Taking his bowl of sundae in his hands, he leans back in his chair and eats, clearly eavesdropping, but also genuinely interested. He's never seen Kid in a 'take command' role before.
Kid responds to Raina with a smirk, but leaves her level of amusement there. This is business after all and she breaks things down straight. "I've seen and heard of your work. I have some information related to some potential bad news in the Dregs," she states, her voice lowered for the table alone. "I plan to investigate it, but I'm under advisement that it could be dangerous. Not being all that enamored with physical violence myself, I'm in need of the tough sort to provide back up." She tilts her head slightly and grins. "Given that you have some connection to official sources, I believe what's going on there could be of interest to you and your superiors. Even though the government officially keeps civil and military forces out of that region of the city."
Entering uppon this fine scene, with his usual cheerful burst of radiation is none other than Kesslan. Once more the alien feline makes his way over to and unoccupied table and sits down. Notably in the same clothes he's been in for the last few days, though at least he smells clean enough that he must wash them occasionally. Once more the small translator is taken out and when it comes time for him to order he orders the same thing as he did the last time as well. Simply water, and 'meat'. The only change to this is that this time he asks for the meat not to be cooked so much. Such are the dietary adventures of the Pantheran.
Raina hmms softly at that and nods. "The Dregs have been pretty much off limits so far. And to go in, I'd have to check with my superiors as well. Else it would be off duty with little to no back up if that were needed."
After listening to Kid's comments with interest, he dismisses it as something that's not all that terribly interesting, and shakes Atticus' hand. "Mr. Atticus, Officer Raina, it has been a pleasure speaking with you today. Perhaps we will meet again soon. For now I must be off, my company is digging a new revetment on the West Side, and I need to be there to supervise. Good day!" With that. he pulls his hood back up over his head shakes a little to prepare himself for the cold, and exits the room.
Atticus listens quietly, taking a few bites of his chili. "Is that the bad area of town?" he asks Raina and Kid, shaking hands with Kelley before taking another bite. "Hi miss. I'm Atticus - big flowery elven name, but we can go with Atticus. I'm not too great at the physical stuff either, even if I am knowledgable with my pistol here." he adds. He rubs his jawline. "Any investigative work needed?"
"Personally, I'd prefer if this little excursion were off the record as much as possible," Kid clarifies. "As well, I don't plan to get into any trouble. This is strictly an information gathering mission and as such, I plan no contact with hostile forces. But.. well, you never know." She grins impishly. "I'll need an answer soon, as I don't fancy waiting too long. If you decide to take me up on this, feel free to contact me by this number." She plucks a few slips of paper from a pocket in her duffle bag, set and ready to be dished out quickly and hands one to Raina. "Further information will be available then." She pauses then, letting her attention drift outward, absorbing Atticus' expressed interest. She gives him a mildly condescending look as she states, "Yes, the Dregs are the 'bad part of town'. Who are you and what do you do? That'll decide if I can use you."
Raina nods slightly as she finishes her mug of broth. "I could go inquire on that right now, if you wished. I have to file a report from the flight last night as well." She takes the slip of paper and nods. "Off the record then. I'll be in contact later this day. Have to go retrieve the claw anyway."
Raina walks into the Elevator.
Atticus takes a bite or two of chili and offers a smile from where he's sitting across from kid. "Well. I'm Atticus, I said that part already. I'm an investigator - well, trying to learn to be one anyway. I have some mental powers - surgery, healing, sensing danger, speaking to spirits, forcing spirits away, clairvoyance, supressing fear, viewing places far away. And magic too. I can make smoke, sense magic and see people's auras, make some blinding faces and turn dead and see invisible folks," he adds. "Plus I'm reasonably good looking and I can speaks several languages."
For his own part Kesslan keeps to himself for the time being as his food arrives. Though he does notice in passing the presence of Kid. As he does so the feline's ears perk up slightly. As he does so one hand resting on the table begins subconciously clawing at the tabletop. He doesnt even really realize he's doing it untill it becomes somewhat audible, at which point he quickly takes his hand away and places it on his lap under the table. That however doesnt stop his gaze from drilling in Kid's direction. Now and then the tip of his tail can be seen flicking out from behind his chair while he seems to be trying to make his mind up about... something.
Kid is actually standing next to the table Atticus is at, which as cleared out pretty quick all of a sudden. But Kid got what she wants for now and pays little mind to the fleeing. She nods once in return to Raina's answer and lets her go without another glance. Instead, she focuses her attention on Atticus as he lists off his qualifications. Going from mildly interested to mildly amused as he goes on. "You could be useful, yes," she decides at the end, tone remaining business-like. "Someone who knows magic will probably be necessary." She hands him one of the phone number bearing slips of paper. "Contact me in three days at this number. I'll have further information for you then."
The door opens quietly and Cali, dressed in jeans and a vest, under a large duffel coat, walks in. She hesitates, looking around warily, the shadows under her eyes lessened by the hours of sleep. "Kid!" She turns, heading towards the table as soon as her eyes light on them. "Um is it alright?" Her gaze slants briefly towards Kesslan, slightly nervously.
Atticus takes the slip of paper, affecting a half-assed sort of salute, "Sure thing. Um. What's your name. Kid, right? She called you kid. Hey Cali," he says as he lifts his hand and waves, "They have chili, it's good with this onion and cheese thing, you should try it. You haven't been sleeping. I told you about sleeping, you gotta sleep or you're gonna fall asleep under one of those huge vehicles."
Kesslan changes his gaze to his food shortly after Cali arrives. And even though he begins to eat the steak that arrives, he does so without the use of utensils. The steak still juicy, just cooked enough not to be called raw making a slightly wet tearing sound as he bites into it and rips a chunk off. Almost as if he were eating the carcas of an animal freshy killed. Of course in some ways he's not too far off. Even though he lacks pupils, one can still get the sense that those dead milky eyes of his are still watching Kid as he eats.
"Yes, that's what everyone calls me," Kid replies as she glances back toward Caliopa. The change that comes over her expression between eyeing Atticus and glancing back toward Cali could be startling. Business done, she greets the woman with a casual grin. "You look better. And its fine, yeah. Just handling a little business, nothing you need concern yourself with." She seems unaware of the carnivore that seems to be eyeing her, returning her attention to Atticus to add, "Don't go blabbing all around either, got it? LIke I told Raina, off the record." A bit of that business returns, though not quite so much as before.
Caliopa lifts one shoulder lightly, her plait falling forward. "I feel better, I slept somewhat, Atticus...I ain't working on any of the trucks until I get more though." She hesitates at the table, glancing around, "If business is still needful, I can ..." She waves a hand vaguely at the door, "Um. Go."
Atticus shoots Kid a thumbs up, "I got it. No talkin' to anyone about it. Zipped and all that. I won't say anything. I don't even know what you're talking about," he says as he moves to dig into his chili some more. "No no, come on over. Business is done. Sit down. Have some ice cream, or chili or tea or something. Would you like some tea? Tea calms me down, it might help you feel better."
Kesslan continues eating, making short work of the steak. Infact such short work it's almsot entirely gone not even a minute after he got it. Even now he's in the process of finishing off the last bits, and while his eating habits are somewhat noisy, and likely considered slightly barbaric by some, it's arguably efficient. Of course part of this is because he doesnt really -chew- his food, rather simply rips chunks off and swallows them down after biting at the ripped chunks just a little bit. Once that's done he's quick to pick up the plate, still swimming in the cooked juices and drinks it down. ONce that is done, only now does he reach for his glass of water. Holding it over his plate he pours just a little bit into his left hand and sets about washing off the last bits of blood from his hands. A slight repeat of this for his chin before he drys everything with his napkin. And yet all the while, one cant help but get the impression he's still watching Kid.
Kid eyes Atticus dubiously as he prattles on, but seems to dismiss it after a moment to answer Cali instead. "Yeah, not reason to not settle in hand have a bite if you're hungry," she confirms. In fact, she'll take Cali's arm in her own and try to lead her over to a seat opposite that of Atticus'. "C'mere, have a sit down." she'll say, should Cali be leadable. But she stops short of pulling the seat out for her. It'll be about then, looking past Cali, that she gets a sense of Kessian watching her. Maybe.. hard to tell with those funky eyes. Far be it from her to assume.. oh wait. "Hey, you got a problem there, fuzzy?" A mild, but obvious challenge to his stare from the diminutive cherub.
Hesitating, before she takes a seat, Cali glances over at Kessian, her forehead wrinkling. She pulls out the chair, curling herself into it, her foot resting on the seat, her arms lightly around it. "How are you?" She questions Atticus softly, "Reckon tea might be nice, but I ain't hungry..."
Atticus waves the waitress over, ordering a tea, "Would you like anything miss?" he asks Kid politely. "I'm alright. Another of those things, you know what I'm talkin' about, I was talking with the doctor and Miss Katsumi and some other guy that she was wrapped around but he got really upset at something and stormed off and she followed him a bit later. I think they're sleeping together. Otherwise I'm still trying to find that agent but I can't and I've tried to search one third of the city so far and I haven't found any evil. It's frustrating."
At first the feline creature does not respon to Kid's challenge. Instead he calmly finishes off his glass of water. That done, the glass set down on the table with a slightly audible clink he then pulls out a few credit notes from one of his many pouches and sets them by the plate in way of pament. Only then, once all is properly sorted does he snatch the translator off the table, get up and make his way directly to Kid. His movements are switf, and likely cause some degree of mild alarm amongst the Inn's security staff. Afterall you have an over six foot tall feline with dead white eyes, kitted out in full armor and obviously armed making a quick beeline for an obviously young girl like Kid and it's only natural to expect something bad might happen.
But nothing bad does happen, rather he instead comes to a stop just three feet from Kid. He presses the on button for the translator and actually delivers a short bow to Kid "Erru-natheri kethculsarr Sijir-Atorian ramfarir grra-sutar-shirr." It takes a few moments for the translator to process it all but it seems to manage as it opens up with "Formal tongue, Warrior requests of little Atorian honor of having time to speak."
Kid ignores Cali and Atticus as she eyes the odd feline. Whether or not she feels any concern when he rises and approaches her is questionable, but she does manage to maintain a firm little expression and remain rooted next to Cali right up until his approach. She does seem somewhat bemused by the bow, but waits for the translation of his words. They get a casual little smirk out of the young woman. "I told you I'm not an Atorian," she starts. "If you have something to say, out with it. I have some things to do, I don't have time for formality."
Caliopa 's eyes widen slightly, trying to keep up with the elf's talking. "Some other guy?" She repeats slowly, before Kessian's approach distracts her, and she twists in the chair, staring at him. She opens her mouth, hesitates and shuts it again, almost with a snap.
Atticus glances over at Caliopa, "He thinks we're all Atorians. The doctor said that he was emitting rads, but I don't know what that means," he confides in her as the tea arrives - set in front of Caliopa - and Atticus digs into his chili some more eagerly.
OOC Note: Atticus had to run for RL
Kesslan seems to be rather insistant on some form of.. well formality however. Maybe it's a wierd alien cat thing, who knows? "Pressir Sijir-jar-Huuuumaaaannrr." before the translator has a chance to finish processing between his brief pause in speach he continues "Effitri..charsutisirr yarrek-ul .... fechrr-far Atorian.." he pauses his ears flattening back slightly "Sasiris jatra Huuuumaaaan. " he fidgets slightly, tail, ears, even his body before finishing "Pasitrish jasamsar fethuyi jarn-nars." Only then does he pause long enough for the translator to do it's job.
- Beep* "Processing" "Formal appologies little one human." "Warrior.. is not used to saying.. things of such nature to Atorian." *beep* "That is to say one of clan Human." "Wish to thank for advice of day before."
Kid is patient. For now. She lets him talk, casually glancing at Cali before the translation gets her attention again. The translated words are answered with a low chuckle. "Just common sense, big guy. You don't need to give thanks for something that simple." Still, as casually as she dismisses Kessia's giving of thanks, she does eye him with a thoughtful little look in her eyes. "However.. if you really want to thank me, you could help me with a little exploratory excursion I'm organizing soon." Out comes another slip of paper with a series of numbers on it, which she offers to the cat man. "You call yourself a warrior and that's something that could be needed. Contact me via this number in three days for further information."
Caliopa 's eyes are on Kesslan, and his translation device. Anyone who knows her well will see her mind calculating how it might work, and also the questions in her face. She is biting her lower lip, resisting asking them. Her gaze wanders to Kid for an instant, meeting her glance, before returning to the translation device.
Kesslan flashes a sharp toothed grin at Kid, and ina voice that comes out in almost a purr, his ears perked high up he responds "Hastiri ugtaja-lar jimsirr eewsta carour." "There is not a gun I do not know how to use." "Estefir ishtu Effitri Kesslan izati. Jamsi tarr fetiso izati." "War is what Warrior Kesslan knows. It is all I know of life." "Jassasar Atorian gwasitir." "Such was my Atorian training." "Ferrak fi-srr jarrmala qwaztir." "Such was my destined caste."
Kid seems entirely too pleased with the positive response from Kessian, the mildly scheming little grin that rises something Cali hasn't seen before. "Sounds good to me." She gives the paper to Kessian. "I assume you know how to use a phone, right? If so, contact me at this number in three days. If not.." She pauses, then glances at Cali. "Cali here can tell you how that works," she decides, returning her attention to Kessian. "I'm not planning to engage the enemy, but I have no doubt you'll be ready if we do.." A slender brow lifting subtly.
Caliopa 's forehead wrinkles slightly, her back straightening at Kid's words. "Phones?" She questions in a faintly confused look, "Kid... what enemy? Did you find it?" The anxiety starts to radiate from her, her eyes fixed on Kid. "Do we know ..." Her voice trails off, as her eyes slant towards Kessian, wariness on her face.
Kesslan glances at the numbers written on the paper before it dissapears into one of his many pouches. "Zastisi hursa-felk rayjur ourrtalf." "Arrangements will be made three suns."
Kid blinks and glances at Caliopa. In an instant, her expression softens and she smiles at Cali lightly. "Oh, no. This has nothing to do with that. Just some issues in the Dregs. Its where I live, so I like to keep an eye on things." She gives the woman a pat on the shoulder, then nods to Kessian. "Good. Now, I have to get going. Remember.. no street fighting," she reminds him. Then she's off without delay. Skirting around a few people before popping out the door.
Blinking quickly, Cali rises abruptly, "Uh... I guess... I'm at the aim if you want..." She backs away from Kesslan steadily, "I... I'll see you around." She bumps into the door, and reach behind herself to open it.
Kesslan gives a nod to Kid, turning to go. Only to notice Cali's timid retreat. His head tilts slightly at her, ears perking up again. Beyond that however he stays where he is untill she is gone before he leaves as well.
