KINGSDALE CITY MUSEUM (LIBRARY)
The library is kind of quiet on this Friday evening. The only person here that doesn't work here is the funny dwarf who is surrounded by large stacks of books. He is muttering to himself a great deal. He isn't doing his three notebook studying like normal, he is just working out a single large notebook at the moment.
There is now a second person who doesn't work here, the very large blacksmith who works outside of town. Pavel's left his huge hammer behind today, and seems to be making his way through the hallway and toward the stacks. He's not muttering to himself, but he's certainly humming along a folk tune. Passing by, though, as there are so few in the building, Pavel can't help but notice Rasputin's much smaller form.
As usual, Rasputin is deep into his study. He is oblivious to pretty much anything which is going on around him in the library. It is a fairly safe place, right? He is going through stack after stack of book. There are a number of books which are off by themselves, perhaps discarded or perhaps yet to be gotten to.
Pavel is a quiet guy, a nice person, but inquisitive by nature. He's no child by any means, but he leads a lively life of a thirty-year old man, and books sitting off to themselves near a man he knows to be a mage? That's interesting, and he makes his way in that direction - not actually speaking and interrupting at the moment.
Rasputin closes the book he was reading and places it on stack which is further away from him. He pulls another book down from the stack, opens it and begins to read it through. He mutters to himself, in Russian of course. "There has to be a way, somewhere, has to be a way."
<< A way? Many ways for what, Rasputin? >> Pavel speaks, as the other man has opened the door. << These books of yours, it looks like scratches. Which is unfortunate, because I know that it's not, what makes it all that more frustrating! >> He sets aside one of the offending books, and looks for something that would accommodate his size. Oh, a couch. It's close enough, and he settles his bottom into it.
Rasputin mutters some more, then looks up with a Russian, "Huh?" He blinks a moment, tugs his beard, and grins, "Net, net. I recently had some success in my research, I can now mend broken bone. Both mortal and supernatural." He smiles a bit, "Of course, it doesn't help me with the tasks at hand. One I've been working on for a while now. Just seems that the closer I get, the further away the answer becomes." He tugs his beard, "Da, what brings you here to da library?"
Pavel wanders over to look at papers, as if perhaps they might be in Cyrillic. << Mending bones is good! I'm afraid that I don't do much in the way of that. But I can fix other things, so I suppose that's something. If you don't mind my asking, what is it that you're studying now? I don't know how you hold all of that in your head. >> He pokes the side of his own skull with a thick blacksmith's index finger.
Rasputin chuckles softly, "Da, da. I'm looking to find a way to remove a Vampire's curse, without killing the creature which holds the curse." He tugs his beard, "It seems that it would be a very good thing to know, da?" He sighs, "I have a few leads, but both are fairly out of my reach at the moment."
<< Yes, that does sound like it would be a very good thing. Also to know who the creature is that is putting on the curse, I would think. >> Pavel crosses his legs and stretches his arms out, making himself comfortable. << Leads on how to do that kind of thing? I really don't know how you can pull off that kind of thing. These complexities - but it's certainly better than having to figure out and work with the technology that so many people of this city like to use, no? >>
Rasputin chuckles and tugs his beard, "Net, net. It isn't any eaiser with magik to do this thing. Just different. Both technology and magiks have there limits." He sighs a bit, "I have two leads, but both are only to free a blood slave. Neither will free a vampire of their condition. Neither will tell me who a slave's master is either. I hadn't thought about that one, actually." He tugs his beard, "Though, I would rather free someone. Of course, locating the master might be interesting."
Pavel nods. << It would be good to know who the puppet master is, wouldn't it? Then you'd know which vampire to kill. >> He shrugs and smirks. << As far as I know, that's the only way to free the captive mind. But without knowing... you can only flail and kill as many as you can, or hunt around as some kind of private investigator. Doesn't seem too efficient. But all I can do is make the blades and such that will bring them down. >>
Rasputin nods slowly, "Da, but if you free the slave. They can tell you who the puppet master was before you freed them." He shakes his head, "Net. I've found two ways to free a slave." He smiles, "Untested by myself, but the research says there are ways." He tugs his beard, "Blades, da. You know how to silver things?"
The blacksmith chuckles. << Yes, I do. I know how to make... just about anything that you wouldn't call electronic. Silver is just one more material, like different types of wood, or different types of magic. >> Perhaps he knows a little of magic, due to the way he phrases it. << Freeing the puppets, yes. I haven't had much experience with the undead directly, but I do fight them. >> Pavel stretches once more, glancing to see if anyone else has entered at this late hour.
Rasputin nods and smiles, "Have you ever worked with material which is like metal, but not metal?" He thinks a bit then shakes his head, "Another time, we can speak about that perhaps." He smiles and tugs his beard, "I have thought about it for a bit, this vampire thing." He sighs, "It is always just out of my grasp, but I keep working at it. It seems you find me here often, was there something you were looking for specifically?"
<< Yes, though I"m sorry, I wasn't coming here to look for you, >> Pavel grins. << No, I do actually have an interest in a metal - a metal that may be like metal but not actually being a metal. It was given to me by a man named Sebastien. >> The large man's brow furrows. << It was given to me as if it had a message that I was supposed to understand when he handed it to me. But... I don't believe that I got that message. So I've come here, to try to figure it out. >> He starts to rise. << I'm sorry if I'm bothering your studies. >>
Rasputin shakes his head, "No bother. These small distractions are nice, and they break up my focus. Which can be good, da." He chuckles a bit, "So metal that isn't metal. Sounds like a mystery I'm trying to figure out myself." He grins and tugs his beard, "I'll let you get to it."
The large man stands and smiles at his dwarf friend. << I suppose I'll be off, then. But if I have any strange stories to figure out, perhaps I'll be back. >> He moves off a short distance, dips his head, and utters, "Do svidaniya, Rasputin."
Rasputin nods and waves to you, "Do svidaniya, Pavel." He shakes his head and goes back to working on the book he had neglected for the brief conversation. He keeps looking at book and his eyes bug out, he mutters to himself a bit and then tries to focus again.
