Kingsdale - Yakov's Deli
Rasputin's Deli is a lively place, normally a short man is behind the counter serving up orders of beef, brisket, chicken, pork, sausage, fish and just about every other type of meat product you can imagine. Rasputin's is a well known secret to low, medium and high class people of all type. Rasputin has all sorts of customer's coming and going at all times of day or night. He isn't open 24-hrs, but he might as well be.
As you walk into the Deli, next to the door is a small lunch counter which faces out into the street. Opposite to the deli counter are four small booths. Both of these locations serve as eating space for those that choose to grab a quick bite of food or one of Yakov's and Rasputin's famous five meat monster deli sandwiches. Most people don't use these booths, but the lunch counter is constantly being used, as it provides a great people watching vantage.
It is a little before noon on a pleasant Thursday. The dinner is a little slow today, but it is still early for the lunch rush. Rasputin, of course, is behind the counter working his magic, flipping buggers, making sandwichs and humming some Russian tune to himself as he does so. A clean, but poorly dressed boy is clearing tables, as a fairly buxxum young waif of a girl is serving food to the few patrons already seated for lunch.
Making her way into the deli for her lunch break Tirzah finds her usual booth vacant as she beats the rush as per usual. Quietly she waits for the new girls to come get her order while she decides what she would like.
Rasputin continues to meloncaly little tune, or is it just Russian? Do all of them sound like that? The waitress comes by your table with a large glass of clear ice water, "Hello Miss, what can I get you for lunch?" She says with a sweet voice, just a hint of Russian accent, but for the most part free of any difficult to understand sounds.
"I'll have a beef wrap and chocolate shake." Tirzah decides, apparently feeling a bit inclined to indulge herself. Something the waitress could use a bit of if her figure is any indication. "And tell Rasputin Tirzah is here if he's up for a talk. It has been a while." She adds with a charmed mile.
The waitress, a small name tag which is pinned into the hem of the low cut uniform says Lilia, her perky voice says, "Great. I always love a little chocolate myself. Do you want me to put some extra fudge in that?" She grins a bit as she scribles down the order, "Do you want red or yellow onions in the wrap? Oh, and do you want some spicey sause on it, or regular?"
Tirzah smirks and shakes her head briefly at the offer for fudge. "Not this time thanks. But yellow onions and lots of spicy sauce." She confirms before taking a long swallow from her water. Then idly waiting she pulls out a fist sized globe a blue flame. Rolling it about on the table she looks at it with a bit of fascination.
Lilia blinks at the blue globe of flame, "Uhm, uh." She ponders a moment, "OK. Sure." She backs away a moment, then walks over to the counter says something in Russian, perhaps the order perhaps not. Then Rasputin turns around and chuckles, "Da, da." He looks to Tirzah and chuckles more. He nods to the pseu chef takes over for Rasputin. Rasputin watchs for a moment, nods, washes his hands and comes over to sit with Tirzah, "Dobryj den mink friend." Rasputin tugs his beard, "Goluboy fire, magiks?" his voice questions.
Tirzah nods, collecting the globe back up with quick afinity before tossing it to Rasputincasually. "Yep, just don't throw it with intent to harm. That would be bad in here." She confirms with a slight grin. "Its been a bit since we talked of magicks. How have you been Rasputin?"
Rasputin tugs his beard, "Da, da." Rasputin sits down in the chair opposite of you, "Da, been verys longs time. Hows have you been? Magiks doing wells? Da?" He eyes the ball and tugs his beard a bit.
Tirzah nods slowly with a slight shrug. "I've been managing. Not everything is perfect but when is it? I was pursuing the magic, experience, with fervor. But now I've hit a bit of a plateau and I'm feeling unsure." She explains, looking comfortable with Rasputin to share such feelings.
Rasputin nods slowly and tugs his beard. The food arrives as there is a pause for a moment, the wrap is put down by the houng Lilia and the tall shake. She also places down a saucer of warm tea for Rasputin. She grins, "Anything else?" she asks Tirzah.
Tirzah shakes her head silently before taking a long sensual draw from the straw of her shake. Finishing with a sigh of relief she smiles. "That's just the thing I needed." she praises before looking back to Rasputin. "You've nee around a while Rasputin, what do you do when you realize you are nearly as good as you ever will be? Then what?"
Rasputin blinks at that comment. Then tugs his beard a moment, "I am not surink. As there are always more skilled beings at the magiks. Ares you feelink like you should be speakink with the Guilds? Perhapsink if you are that strongs, then you could gain membersips?" He picks up his tea and sips it.
Tirzah shakes her head without hesitation at the mention of the guild. "I am nearing that strength, but my resources do not match that endeavor. Plus what would be the point? My capabilities with the arcane is bound to what I grasp about the elemental plane. I use the experience and knowledge to use the arcane to shape the elemental energies I'm linked to. They cant teach me that. No one can. So it'd just be a waste no? The thing is I understand most every aspect of it now. But lack the experience to master it. And even mastery wont be a huge advance on what I can achieve now." She laments before pausing to take a thoughtful bite from her sandwich.
Rasputin nods slowly, "Da, da. True is this. I am not knowink much of earth magiks. Are there ones which you can communes with to learns more?" He ponders a moment, then sips his tea, "Or perhapsink are there other aspects you can explore to learns more?"
Tirzah considers that point and finds in unexplored as she chews carefully. Swallowing she shrugs, not really knowing. "I've never heard of a warlock studying the other aspects to manipulate the arcane. I suppose there are as open to them as anyone, perhaps moreso, already being linked. How would that work I wonder." She muses, realizing she has almost no knowledge to how other people learn magic.
Rasputin shrugs a bit and tugs his beard, "I am not knowink, my magiks are hard learned through study. Not through commune with another entity. So I am not knowink that sorts." He tugs his beard, "Have you learnink spell from other personik before, have I taught you one before?" He tugs his beard, "Plazibo, if I havink, mink menory gets foggy some times."
Tirzah shakes her head with some consternation. "Not exactly. We don't cast like normal mages first. From what I've seen a normal mage uses symbols and words to focus his will and arcane energy to enact the spell. With me I tap the link to the elemental plane and use my arcane energies to shape the creation I make from that link. In fact with the exception of levitation every spell I have learned conjures a manifestation of tangible elemental power."
Rasputin nods slowly and tugs his beard, "I am seeink, that is interestink." He ponders a bit, "Are there more powerful elemntal spirits you be speakink with perhapsink? They do have a mental speakink ability, da?" He takes a sip from his tea.
Tirzah nods between another bight of the wrap and draw from the shake. "Oh quite capable actually. Elemental's easily understand any language. Its the beings that speak them where things go south. A true elemental is a god or at least very near to one. Immortal and likely to exist for millennia after and even before we ask for a moment of its consideration. How does one quantify that to an elemental? Entire generations of mortals live and die in a blink of their existence. And you want a minuscule fraction of that for insight. That's how they are to normal people. Warlocks are more privileged, chosen to have the link to their plane. So they are more indulgent and forthcoming with us, but still it does not null the facts of their situation."
Rasputin tugs his beard again as he thinks, "Da, that would be causink a problems. Evenink a polite exchanink would take days, perhapsink?" He sips his tea as he grins to himself, imagining how boring a conversation with a stone could really be. He sets down the small cup, "Thoughink, the up sides could be very goodink, da? Thoughs, you could be lookinik for other knowledges or wisdoms?" Rasputin shrugs a bit and takes another sip from his tea.
Tirzah nods slowly. "Well I've been working with a technowizard to make some things.." She pauses considering that for a moment. "Wait a moment, I already know elemental magic works with technowizardry. Maybe that's what I should pursue." She concludes before thinking it through as she finishes her wrap and shake. "Well its worth a talk at least I think. Thanks so much for the chat Rasputin, but I better get back to work. Keep the globe, it'll be good for about two weeks. If you want something to burn throw the globe at it with that intention." She instructs before leaving the credits for her lunch and offering a hug to the dwarf and heading out.
Rasputin takes the hug, and then watches you leave. He puts the globe on the counter resting in a cup on display, "Da, perhapsink." He says to himself and goes back to work.
