Roulin is happily eatting, noone disturbing him for the moment, though that was not the case not too long ago. So, he sits there, chomping away at a simple burger of meat between buns and a slice of cheese.
Kid slips into Happy Burger slowly. Her first pause coming outside, a glance around the street before she pushes her way in. Nudging the door open enough to peer in for a moment before she seems satisfied she can come in all the way. Still in her somber black dress casual, seeming the only thing she wears these days. Once in, she makes for the counter directly, sparing no attention for anything but the menu. Lucky enough, there is no line for the moment. The kid at the register gets all tense when she approaches, but is spared Kid's acerbic nature as the girl starts rattling off things. Ordering two burgers, two fries, a mess of chicken chunks and a huge drink. Fishing for credits after placing the hefty order.
Roulin dosn't seem to notice Kid at first, but eventually looks up from where he eats, his view giving him a sight of people in line as he spots Kid. He really dosn't say a thing at the moment, instead just watching to see what she had ordered.
It becomes obvious as the items are piled onto her tray, Kid seeming quite satisfied as she gets fooded in good order. Once she has it all, she hefts up the tray and starts off at once towards a nearby table. So focused will she be on the food itself, that when she settles down at the first table to catch her fancy, she'll find that she's plunked her tray right down on Roulin's table. She pauses just before she might have settled down to stare at the man with a little frown. "What are you doing here?"
Roulin looks up at Kid, putting his own burger down as he says "Very likely the same thing you are about to. Eatting. Though...trying not to get big and fat and wide in doing so." indeed, in front of him is the second half of his burger, a salad, and a drink that looks like iced tea. "Still drunk?"
Kid glances down at Roulin's choice in food and smirks, emitting a snort. "Right.. cause this is the bastion of healthy eating." Her casual sarcasm the precursor to her just settling herself down. She starts popping open boxes and positioning her array of fatty foods with practiced precision, all within easy, simple reach. "No I'm not drunk.. what makes you think that? Or are you just being an ass?" Her eyes sliding up toward him as she pauses just before starting in on her own food.
Roulin holds his hands up. "Sorry Kid, I don't need to be an ass. Already one at the table." as he forks some of his salad and takes a few bites of it. "Mmm, what's your attitude malfunction anyways? You always want to confront me about something. " he gently waves his fork in a small circle in the air, "I mean hell...I do honest work, get paid for it. Not like I've somehow screwed you over."
Kid snorts at the rejoinder and starts to eat, letting his question sit for a brief time as she snaps up a few fries, then takes a casual bite from her burger. Washed down with a sip of her straw, she states, "You poking at me about being plastered for one. And I don't know you so who knows what you do day to day." Her shoulders roll as she picks up a chicken chunk, waggling it between to fingers as she wonders, "What about you? What's with being so.. limp when it comes to doing stuff?"
Roulin looks at Kid, "Limp? Well, if that's what you call doing demolition derbies and hunting vampires. I'd hate to hear how you're hard." he pauses as he picks out some more of his salad, nearly half gone before he continues "Why are you plastered all the time then? I thought it was just because you could be the other night in the bar. But if it's more, I should find you a support group."
"I'm not drunk," Kid reiterates. "I don't walk around smashed or stoned, I save getting a buzz for when I'm relaxing." Her eyes given a slight roll. "And I don't mean all your macho, gun bunny stuff, I mean like with talking to Cali and stuff like that. Not hard for you boys to go out shooting stuff and driving your cars around."
Roulin rolls his eyes at Kid in reply, before he says "Simple, because I'm not like you, and I don't go in and spout off how I 'feel' or any junk like that. Caliopa can handle herself. If she wants to stay put, then damnit, she has that right." Roulin puts his fork down for the moment, drinking his tea. Kid frowns, poking a fry at Roulin. "So just cause she wants to, you'd let her walk merrily down the path of a bad idea? Sure, if Cali knew the first thing about the Dregs, I'd let her, but you know how she is. She's not stupid, I k now,w but she's not street smart and she thinks the best of people, even when she shouldn't. Bad combination for doing business in the Dregs." She snaps up the fry and shakes her head slightly. "Maybe you can sit back and just let her make that kinda mistake, but not me. Not without making sure she knows what I think."
Roulin looks at Kid. "The fact that she's been hurt and Desmond has been hurt...honestly kid, if Caliopa hasn't 'woken up and smelled the napalm', then she ethier is in for a very rough time there, or she knows what she's gotten into and she won't budge from it. I know you like to tout off how great you are on the streets, and of course how noone else is as street smart...but Caliopa is strong, she will survive."
Kid frowns faintly at Roulin. "You don't know a thing about me, man, so don't pretend like you do. I'm not saying I'm all great.. yeah, I know the streets. Better than some, not so good as others. But I ain't talking about everyone else, I'm just talking about Cali, you dig?" She settles back in her chair, holding that frown. "I know Cali pretty well, she's the sort to look on the bright side of just about anything. She and the elf don't plan to pay protection forever and short of that, I don't see them having an easy time of it there unless he can pull some kind of trump card out of his ass. Gangs don't just roll over when you say you don't want to pay protection. They lose face when people stand up to them, which is what got her poked in the first place."
Roulin gives a nod, "And I'm sure Caliopa does too. Tell you what, I think your energy is misguided...instead, go talk to Atticus if you want to change a mind. He's just as bad as Caliopa, but his idea is that he should peacefully negotiate with the gang."
"Maybe.. but I doubt he'll do anything if Cali doesn't want to move. Gotta get both of them convinced.. but even then they'd probably just stick it out." Kid's expression souring. "But they can't say they didn't get warned.. I said a long time ago this was a bad idea." She breathes out lowly and mutters, "Figure most people would have common sense in this kinda thing." Delving back into steadily devouring her spread.
Roulin looks at Kid, and says "There we go then. You've got a pair of people who /should/ know better, but don't act on it. Staying where they both know it's dangerous. So, you want me to stop being limp, divert a river, clean out a kings stables, and convince the pair of them to move back out?"
Kid just shoves that pickle aside as she states, "The point is the attempt. The point is showing you care enough to say something rather than just quietly letting people walk into a wall they don't see," she states. "That's why I said you're limp.. cause you just want to say nothing, knowing it probably won't do any good. Way I see it, you shouldn't just look away when that happens and hope for the best."
Roulin looks at Kid then says "Fine, fine. I'll speak to Caliopa about it tommarow, I've an appointment with her. Just don't expect any results or sudden changes of mind."
Kid shrugs her shoulders slightly. "And the next time something like this happens? Just going to sit on the sidelines and hope things work out ok or are you gunna do something? That's the key." Glancing up for a moment from her eating to ask that question.
Roulin looks to Kid, "It depends. If I see you doing something in the future, that I think is stupid. Want me to stop you?"
Kid returns the look, giving Roulin a smirk. "I guess that depends on how much you care, cause when it comes to friends, you don't just let them fuck up their lives without saying word one. But then, I don't even really know you, man. So I ain't going to expect you to say anything about me." Her shoulders given a slight roll at that. Her eating resumed, one burger down, just a few chicken chunks and fries left to deal with.
Roulin just laughs to that, and says "Sure, whatever you want. Anyways, in this case, don't eat so much, it's bad for you. In fact...don't eat any of it left, you've already had enough." as he puts a hand out to ward Kid off from her own food.
Kid casually slaps at the back of that extended hand. "Hey, screw you, man. I ain't been here for weeks. So don't you get your fingers near my tray unless you're looking to lose them." Her eyes given a slight narrow as she eyes Roulin. "I eat here all the time, usually. I know my limits."
Roulin looks to Kid. "Strange how those words sound just like what Caliopa says. In fact Kid, I don't think these are good for you at all. Throw them in the trash, buy a salad. Eat better. It's better for your body, even though you know the risks of eatting all these greasy stuff."
Kid rolls her eyes slightly at that. "I'll take your concern under advisement," she replies just before taking a rather large bite out of her remaining burger. She Swallows that down and smirks faintly. "You can stick with your salads, I'll stick with my burgers. But trust me, I don't usually eat this much. But after a hiatus, I need to catch up for lost time."
Roulin gives a nod, "Yup. and Caliopa will stick with her Dregs, and you may stick with your uptown. And she normally dosn't have that much trouble, but Caliopa is just catching up for lost time with the gang."
Kid rolls her eyes slightly. "Yeah, cause a few burgers are a fitting comparison to pissing off a bunch of gangers that like to stab women. Spare me your attempts at dismissing my concerns. You're going down the wrong path for it, man."
Roulin shakes his head as he stands. "I'm not dismissing your concerns, but trying to get you to think. Not to mention, doing to you what you want me to do with Caliopa. Convince her what she is doing is wrong. First, convince yourself before you'll ever be able to get her to move." as he leaves the table towards the trash can, dumping his junk into it.
"Never said convince her, just tell her what you really think," Kid states, leaving that particular line right there. Breathing out a low sigh as she digs back into her second burger contentedly. She still has a bit more to do, lingering at the table as she keeps steady on her work.
Roulin gives a wave of one hand back to Kid, as he slips out the front door. He dosn't seem overly concerned though.
