>From the door of Renos' apartment, a soft knocking can be heard of someone requesting entrance.
The apartment, and indeed the hall, has a number of TW devicesthat do different things. One is lighting. Which gievs it an almost magical glow to the place, though its not really a glow but more like magical light reflecting off different things. But it gives the building an otherworldly air. Its not a wonder why many magical folk find this place comfortable. There are applainces and such that are also TW designs, but Renos's place is otherwise stock bare. There is a desk, a bed, a chest of drawers for clothes, and a closet. Most of the space is taken up by parts, tools, and other such devices of technological in origin. renos is looking tired, sitting behind his desk, flipping through schematics, when he hears the knock. "Come in?"
Upon hearing permission to enter, the door to the apartment slowly swings open. There, Robert stands and gives a small wave before entering the apartment. He takes a moment to take stock of his surroundings and gives a low, appreciative whistle. "Nice place, Robert. It puts my apartment to shame," he says as he closes the door.
"Huh?" He then looks around at the stark apartment, and looks a bit blankly back to Robert. "Oh, well, I suppose. Did you come for the See Aura spell? It will take a while to learn." He then groans as he gets up out of the chair, and puts his hand to his back. "Ah...goodness."
Robert gives a slight nod. "Yep. I figure that having that handy would be good just in case we have another issue like that last one I heard about." He offers an appreciative smile, "Thanks for teaching me. If you want, I can also help give you what pointers I can on that Cloud of Smoke spell."
There is a nod of his head to the man. "I would like that very much. This is the essence of a guild, to be honest." He then rubs his eyes, and blinks, then walks over to the bench. He then grabs a crystal and a flashlight. "Sure, don't worry about it." He then walks over and puts them into Robert's hand. "Put them together. AS in shine the light through it."
Looking at the items he just received, Robert frowns thoughtfully. "Ok," he starts to say as he shines the flashlight through the crystal. "I'm not sure I see the point of this, but you're the one teaching." He looks as the light on the opposite wall is split up into its colorful components. "Well, that's pretty."
"Light is white until you shine it through a crystal. Hence 'white' is the way our eyes perceive the colors that make up the light. White light is actually all colors of light mixed together. Normally, our...being. Our essence, is the same way." he then gestures to the colors. "But you need a prism to see some of the...colors or the essence, or aura. THe aura radiates form the body a little way. This spell acts like a prism to see some of the individual parts of the aura around someone."
As he turns the crystal around in his hand causing the rainbow to shift and shimmer, Robert slowly nods as he considers it. "Ok. So, it's energy that comes off of a person, and the spell takes the place of this reflective crystal." He chews at his lower lip as he thinks about it for a moment. "Is that anything like how I can see PPE concentrations if I concentrate hard enough?"
"I suppose...what...what is your profession?" he asks, a little mildly curious, and then walks into the kitchen. "Sensing PPE is like a vague way to feel the energy around you. Instead of taking that feeling, you shift it to your eyes, and reveal the energy around you. But its not only PPE, as you can view people who have never used theirs."
Robert cocks his head to the side quizzically. "Huh, I thought I had told you." He then shrugs it off before saying, "I'm a Leyline Walker. You get a feel for magical energies early on in your training. Later, you can see it if you concentrat." He then gives a slow nod. "I think... I get the general gist of it. So what I'm doing is more like reading the general mystical emissions that people give off naturally. The spell just lets me see the specific 'colors' from the 'white light', right?"
Nodding softly and then reaching into the fridge, "Oh, well, I don't work on the concentrations in the PPE stuff. I work more with machines." He then looks to Robert. "Want something to drink?" He then nods softly. "Correct. It seperates some things from others." He then looks bakc to Robert.
Robert seems mildly enthralled with the color patterns that the light being refracted through the crystal create. He blinks a bit and looks over at Renos. "Um.. just water if you're offering. I'd almost be afraid to have anything else while practicing." A very sheepish grin follows that statement. "Right," he then continues. "You said you were a techno-wizard, so all your spells work best through machines."
There is a nod of his head. "Thats correct, I spent my time learning about technology rather than straight-forward magic." He then pours the man a glass of water from the pitcher and slides it over to him. "Well, thats the essence of the spell. It reveals base levels of PPE, presence of magic, psionics, possessing entities, aberrations, or sicknesses. but you have to hold that image in your mind."
Robert sets the items he's holding down on a nearby table before picking up the glass. "I see, so that's why you wanted to show that to me first." He takes a thoughtful sip before saying, "But that's only part of learning this spell."
"The most important part, but yes." He then moves his hands slowly, gesturing the few gestures that it takes to cast the spell. He then speaks the words slowly, which is only a three words spell. "Thats the rest of them." he then looks to the man. "So, feel free to practice."
Robert studies the movements closely before he closes his eyes and repeats the words. They're slightly mangled, which causes him to frown. "That's not right. Can you repeat those words again, Robert? I don't think I quite got the proper pronunciation."
There is a nod of his head as he repeats them slowly once, for pronunciation, and then the speed at which they are supposed to go, to match the cadence of the words and syllables. "No problem, Robert. I am here to help you for as long as it takes for you to learn."
Robert breathes in and then lets out a slow sigh before he tries the words again. This time, they're more what they should be. "Better," he murmurs to himself before trying the words again and again until they feel right. After that, he starts to weave through the simple hand motions. A thoughtful frown adorns his face as he repeats one of the motions. "Robert, do you know what they call this particular motion? I've never run across it before."
There is a bit of a pause, and a shake of his head. "I think its an inverted flip-T, or something. I don't really know. I don't practice gestures all that much. It feels wierd trying to focus through anything other than tech. And it doesn't ever work out as well if I don't focus through tech." Renos then gets a soda himself and drinks it a little.
"An inverted flip-T," Robert intones flatly. "Um, I suppose it would be that. I'll have to look up the proper name of it." He runs through the gestures a few more times working on getting the correct amount of crispness with each one. Finally, he starts combining the spoke words and gestures together trying to bring them in synch. After a few tries, he looks at Renos and asks, "Does that look about right to you?"
Renos blinks a litle at the flat tone of his name to the gesture. "Well, it what it looks like..." He then watches of ra few moments, then does them himself. "Yeah, looks right. Curl the pinky a bit more." He then sips his soda and looks down at the cup. "Give it a try."
With a slow nod, Robert actually focuses his energies together to flow into the spell incantation. As he brings up the flow of PPE, he uses the spoken words and hand gestures to form the mystical energies into a form he desires. Once he finishes, he release hold allowing the newly formed energies to flow. His eyes begin to glow softly and brighten rapidly. Shortly there after, they flash brilliantly before the glow fades altogether. "YEEOWCH!" Robert yelps as he races to scrub the newly formed spots in his eyes.
There is a nod of the man's head as he watches the ley line walker. "well, that happens. You don't get it all at once, but let it more seep in. As if your eyes were going form dark to light. Bright light causes pain, but slowly adjusting your eyes is the wiser course." He then nods softly and sighs.
Robert scrubs his eyes for another minute or so before he regains some normal sight. "Yeah. Got it. Slowly let it out, not all at once." He quickly dips his fingers in his water and then paints the cool liquid over his eyes. "Give me a moment to stop seeing spots, and I'll try that again."
There is a nod of his head. "Of course, take as long as you need." He then sips the soda for a moment and then sighs, rubbing his own eyes a little tired.
Robert blinks a few more times as his eyes finally recover. He takes a sip from his water and sighs before getting into position to try again. Then he notices Renos. "Hey, you been sleeping alright, Robert?"
There is a bit of a shurg of his shoulders. "I am sleeping as well as I am able to sleep." He then sighs a little more and shrugs a bit more. "Its hard to do anything these days. I even have a hard time trying to get out of bed."
Robert nods slowly as he listens. "Still wondering where your girl is then?" He shakes his head. "I'm sure she's alright." He starts to move through the motions as he gets his energy together for a slower release of the spell. This time, his eyes take on and hold a soft luminescence for a few seconds before winking out. "Hmm, I think I saw a bit of it, but it's a bit difficult to hold."
There is a nod of his head slowly. "Yes, holding the image is usually the hardest to do, and then to adjust for circumstances. Its always one of the complications of magic. Maybe I can develop magical principles that apply universally to all magic." He then nods softly,a little sad. "Wondering? no...more like worried out of my mind."
Robert tries the spell again with the luminescence a little less but lasting longer before winking out. He frowns a bit to himself as he tries to work it out. As Renos starts down dark path, Robert moves over to give him a rather abrupt clap on the back. "Snap out of that, Robert!"
There is a bit of a glare as the man slaps him on the back. "Don't hit me. It annoys me." He then watches the man for a moment. "I am allowed to be worried about the woman I love, am I not?"
"Worried, yes. Self-destructive, no," Robert retorts immediately. "Look, if you wallow around here and worry yourself to death over this and she turns up, she's likely going to not be happy with you. The only way we know she's likely still alive is that we haven't found her body." He then holds up a finger as he continues, "Also, what have you done to actually look for her lately? If she is in trouble, your sitting here and moping won't rescue her."
"I have reached all the avenues I have to explore. I don't think that she is in the city. Of if she is, she's so far down in the bad sections of town that there is no way to really find her. Maybe she's hiding for her life...I don't really know." He then takes a deep breath and then blows it out slowly.
Robert reaches out to pat the man on the shoulder in a consoling fashion. "I know. Patience then. I'm sure she'll turn up soon enough." He then sighs before trying to continue in an encouraging voice, "Anyway, don't just sit here in this apartment moping. Go out. Do something. Get drunk or something."
"I have not been moping, I am working. This is my workspace. I have been keeping busy. Like going over those robot schematics." He then gestures to the drawing table. "I lived with her at her place." He then frowns and sips his soda once more. "Do you have the spell down enough? Need more practice?"
Robert thinks for a moment before nodding. "I think I have it down enough to practice it without blowing out my eyes, yes. Did you want help with anything, or did you want to ask me to leave you be now?"
"I don't need any help, but I am not asking you to leave or anything. I just didn't want to be distracted by all of this suplerfluos talk about my personal life form teaching you the spell." He then sips a bit more on the soda.
Robert reaches for his water and finishes it off before setting down the empty glass. "It happens. Spell practice for such spells isn't that difficult. Anyway, you're right. Did you find anything about that blueprint?"
Renos just shakes his head softly to Robert. "No, nothing. Its a well built machine with no weaknesses. Its going to be a real pain in the ass to fight these things. I hope I don't have to." He then chuckles. "Of course, I can't finght anyway."
Robert chuckles a bit and shrugs. "Do you know what the machine does? I'm afraid that mine popped up a total dead-end, so I'm going to try something different."
Renos shrugs a little back. "Its a robot. Maybe even a vehicle for an artificial intelligence, I am not really sure. Its not that there is a real big difference. But you know, general robot that was constructed by other robots suvive in outer space."
Robert makes a face. "Ick. Do we know if they have this blueprint, or if we managed to take it away from them before they implemented it?" He shakes his head. "Robots are difficult to deal with because they don't have a mind to mess with."
Renos shrugs a little at that. "I doubt they care, to be honest. They built their robots pretty good. It doesn't have any weaknesses. Its literally a well built tank in a humaniod body." He then shrugs and leans back against the wall.
Robert grunts a bit at that. "Fun. Guess I should start looking into spells that might be useful against robots, then." He shakes his head. "I don't suppose you know of anything like that?"
Renos just sort of shakes his head a little. "Spells don't really focus on robots in general. If we had a lot of time, I am sure we could try and come up with something that works just against robots. But..." he then shrugs a little.
Robert nods a bit before sighing. "I guess the only think we have to rely on is that they're literal minded." He looks towards a nearby clock and sighs. "Renos, I need to go. My shift comes up at the restaurant here soon, so I'd better get going before the chef decides to put me on cleanup again...with my toothbrush."
Renos nods softly at that. "I have to go work at Draconic Secrets here soon anyway." He then nods to the mage. "Take care, and come by again some time." He then scratches his head.
Robert gives Renos a quick wave before heading out the door. "Be well, Robert. I'll likely see you later."
