Armor Failure

How armor fails on Rifts:CoK is slightly different than in RUE. Please see Combat_Rules#Armor_Failure.

Armor Fitting

Standard Armor can fluctuate between 5 ft 10 inches and 6 ft 2 inches without serious modification. Anything shorter than that or taller than that will require a skilled tech to modify the suit of armor. It might even cost additional funds to make the modifications if the person is of too tall of a height.
Unless specifically stated, you can wear light types of armor under normal body armor. For example the Resin Armor or leaf armor can not be worn under other types of body armor.

Armor Features

Unless a feature is standard as part of all common varieties of armor (RUE p267) or is described in the book description of the armor, it is not part of that armor(heat buffering for example)

Armor and Magic

As long as a mage is only in Standard Class body armor he/she suffers no I'll effects from the armor he is wearing, even if it is EBA.

If a mage is wearing, Heavy Class body armor then there is too much material between him and the outside world to focus the required energy to cast a spell. As well as too much 'stuff' to correctly allow yourself to gesture or vocalize to cast the spell.

Classes of Armor: Standard Up to 80 MDC (Can Include both Light and Medium) Heavy 81 and over.

NOTE: If the description of the Armor (reguardless of class) describes the extensive use of metal it is considered Heavy Armor. Unless TW modified or Magic. (See Note #2 for Specifics)

NOTE 2: If the suit of armor has two or more Techno-Wizard modifications, or was specially designed for a mage to wear then the armor is considered Standard Class. This is due to magical link that is created while modifying the body armor. This only applies to Body Armor, and does not apply to Power Armor or Robot Armor.

EBA

The Environmental portion of Environmental Body Armor (EBA) fails at 20% of Main Body armor.

It is important to note that this means that area of effect items will harm those inside of the Body Armor

Unless the specific suit of EBA states different, all EBA has the list of built in equipment listed on p267 of RUE.

Fury Beetle Armor

For a player to create Fury Beetle Armor, MDC Hide armor, or other natural based armors out of MDC leather they must do the following:

Purchase 10 feet square (10 ft x 10 ft) of MDC Hide or using Skin & Prepare Animal Hides skin an MDC Hide creature at a -10% until 10 feet square are created. This will allow you to skin one creature, small or large. A failed roll means half of the material was lost in the failed attempt.
A second attempt may be made, but another failed roll means all skin is destroyed for use in Armor.

Note, one must use a cutting tool capable of cutting MDC flesh to skin an MDC creature.

Once MDC Hide is acquired, the builder must have one of three skills:

  • Leather Working -5%
  • Weapons Engineer -5%
  • Field Armorer -15%

Note, should a character has any two of these skills, then the penalty is removed for creation of a suit of armor. If a character have all three then they receive a +10% bonus.

A standard 10 ft x 10 ft piece of MDC hide sells for 10,000 credits. An additional 5000 credits of material (Common Economy +/- Flux) is required for building the armor suit to fit a human sized person. To create one suit of armor takes 80 hours of work.
A failed means 5 feet square are destroyed in the process and another 2500 credits (Common Economy +/- Flux) in material is required. It also will require another 40 hours of work.

Armor Examples: Super-Hide Armor (JU p71), Fury Beetle Armor (CAN p192)

Optics

No goggles, binoculars or other optic items may be used with the faceplate down, unless specifically stated. Neither can they be worn inside the faceplate.

See Equipment#Multi-Optic_Helmet for additional details.

Repair Costs

See Repair Costs

Salvage Armor

Someone with Weapons Engineer can recover armor plate from suits of damaged Body Armor. One successful check is required for main body, helmet, pair of arms or pair of legs. For the arms or legs you only claim half of the MDC from the total for parts for future repairs.

Sensor Jammers

Question: How does the Sensor Jammer unit which can be built into body armor combine with the NG Stalker Suit?

Answer: The Sensor Jammer can't be built into the NG Stalker Suit, but as the Stalker Suit can be worn under Body Armor it could be combined with the Sensor Jammer to some extent.

If the person attempting to detect the wearer successfully bypassed the Sensor Jammer, and was using Thermal based detection equipment. The penalty which the NG Stalker Suit puts upon the Read Sensory Equipment roll would apply. Otherwise it would have no effect.

Body Armor can not be repaired if it has less than 10% of its main body left.
