From Chronicles
Very late or very early, Vyvian is lounging quietly in the garden. As is often the case, her broad fur cloak is spread out near to the fountain with her laid out casually upon it. Round about the last time that Kesslan found her here. Laid on her side, she has a small children's book set down beside her, at a comfortable eyeline. She stares at it hard, as if by pure weight of focus she could make the words on the page easier to decipher. Only it isn't so easy, though she keeps at it, working over the largish words on the page at a laborious pace.
His days and nights having recently been rather restless, Kesslan finds himself drawn to the generally tranquil garden. He's not entirely sure what he means to do here, perhaps meditate or otherwise find some peace of mind. All he knows for certain is that the stark and spartan neatness of his own appartment was getting to him. Ideal for him most of the time, there still remains other times when he seeks.. more. Perhaps a reafirmation of why he finds this world a decent one. Perhaps simply needing a place to be for a while that embodies hopes, dreams, beauty and all the good things in life that he so often denies himself, especially uppon this world where his very presence is litterally harmful to others should he but linger too long.
With a low sigh Vyvian shuts the book, blinking her eyes a few times to soften the strain of her intense reading style. A touch restless herself, she rolls from lounging on her side to laying upon her back. Eyes closing as Kesslan makes his entry to the garden. She won't notice him at first, her senses dulled by the unnatural nature of the city. But a fortuitous turn of her head and slow half opening of her eyes will set her attention in the right direction. Spying him, she grins broadly and makes a languid rise into a seated posture, legs curled in to the side. "Hey there, Kess!" Called out as she waves a hand at him. Not that she'd be too hard to find.
The pantheran does not immediately react, he'd come here seeking... something. He's not sure what. Perhaps a sense of beauty that his spartan quarters completely lack. A reminder of the things he fights for in the end in some vague way he can only but dream of, as he has not touched the soil of his homeworld in several years now. What ever the cause, what ever the reasons, he seems a touch slow to react to Vyvian's greeting. It takes a few moments for those blank eyes of his to turn uppon her in a friendly nod. His bearing initially unusually stiff though he soon seems to shake out of what ever mental state he was in. "Is well Vyvian of Lizardman people?"
"Fine and dandy, honey," Vyvian replies, her overall lightness of self easily reaffirming that state. She eyes him a moment and offers, "You're lookin' not all that loose. SOmethin' wrong?" Of course, even as she's asking this, she reaches out to pat her cloak in simple offer. "Mebbe you come tell ole Vyvy about it and you'll feel better. Can't say I'm gunna have no soothin' words that work, but I can give that a try too." She grins broadly. "Figure it won't make it no worse either way." She shifts just a little to offer up a bit more room, though there's plenty on the broad cloak.
"No is not wrong that know of only.." Kesslan flicks an ear, falling silent for a few moments before speaking again "Is not able to rest." Only then does the radioactive pantheran approach Vyvian, and while his movements are far more casual and at ease than they were before he still seems a touch distracted. His ears dipping down before perking up as he suddenly seems to remmeber something "Have note other leave me, but cannot read language of humans."
Vyvian nods to Kesslan's initial denials, though doesn't seem entirely convinced by those words. She keeps her seat and gives him an understanding nod, however, as he speaks of inability to sleep. "A nice, warm tea can help that, honey. Might relax ya just a bit," she offers. Though the mention of a note brings her to a more interesting challenge. "Mind letttin' me have a look at that there? Been learnin' how t'read. ain't so good at it yet, but mebbe I could help ya figure some of it out." And again she'll pat the cloak near to her in simple offer. Persistent, but not too obviously so.
Kesslan's response to that is to reach down into one of the pouches on his webbing to pull forth a folded piece of paper, merely extending it towards Vyvian as his ears perk up again with a slight added tilt to his head. His long ropey tail swaying behind him slowly as casual as before. "Am not knowing of why one would think Kesslan understand language of human. Can not speak well even of their strange language noise. Is.. much hard to proper form words."
Vyvian reaches up to take the paper. "I'm thinkin' some folk just like t'think all know what they do. With all the writin' that folk do 'round here, I was figurin' mebbe I should learn." She'll eagerly flip open the paper and then lay it down before her on the spread out cloak, carefully smoothing it with her palms a few times. A bit of an elaborate ritual, it doesn't take too long before she leans forward and peers down at the squiggles on the page. Then comes to focused concentration as she tries to decipher the words. It will quickly become obvious this isn't going to be a matter of moments on her part. But she seems set and determined to puzzle her way through it.
The feline stands by paciently as Vyvian examines the note to the best of her ability. Only now does he take the offered seat. Though even as he sits he comes across as a touch.. stiff. Indeed he almost never relaxes out in public, even in private he can be a touch stiff at times too. Not that many know that of course. Still it's something easily immagined of him given his present and usual bearing.
Tirzah enters the gardens carrying a few books in her arms. Reading the back of one as she walks she is barely aware of her surroundings. Relying on her memory to guide her to a seat in the gardens. Thus she would may have bumped into those present, if she hadn't heard the conversation and steered clear. Taking a quick glance from the book she nods at Vyvian, and gives the feline only a slight glance. Like the other feline she knows this one makes her slightly uneasy. But not from his mere disposition like the other one, the air feels wrong around this one. Its weird and slight, and she has no idea why, or if its even real, its just a faint feeling, that deters her lingering around him.
After a minute Vyvian looks up towards Kesslan. "Y'goin' somewhere? Cause.. that's 'get to'," she states, pointing at the two words in particular. She then looks down again and stares at the words on the paper. "S.. sou.. South.." She pauses a moment, then a light bings on and she seems ever so pleased with herself. "I seen that word a lot, that's America," she states, grinning broadly. "Says you're goin' to South America.. and that's a question mark.. means whoever sent this is probably askin' if you're goin' to South America." She pauses then as the euphoria of reading gives way to actually processing the words. Her expression turning thoughtful.
Vyvian and Kesslan are near to the fountain in the garden, both sitting on her spread out cloak. She has her fine dress on and is currently amid trying to decipher a written note that's spread out before her. Tirzah is just passing as the talk goes on and when she nears, Vyvian notices her. Her thoughtfulness doesn't stop the lizard woman from greeting the girl warmly. "Heya there, honey. How you doin'?" Though she does give Tir an odd look as she seems apt to wander on a bit.
Kesslan gives a light flick of his left ear as he listens to Vyvian reading the note for him. Or at least doing her best. He's not annoyed, though one might call his bearing a touch focused to say the least. As if by staring at the peice of paper she's reading from long enough he coudl some how decipher the meaning of the words. It's only once Vyvian gets distracted by Tirzah's presense and adresses her that he actually looks up to regard the newly arrived Warlock with his milky eyed gaze, both ears swiveling to point in her direction a moment as well. A gaze that's held longer than most would likely find comfortable as the feline blatantly studies the apperance of this new arrival with a certain sense of detachment. However in the end he gives her a greeting nod, though he doesnt fully turn his attention away from Tirzah either.
Tirzah puts her books down before turning to return the greeting. Keeping her distance she just lets her voice carry from the spot she managed to wander to. " I'm good Vyvian, you? Any luck finding a geologist?" She asks with a polite smile.
Vargus moves into the garden from the library and oddly enough, has a few books under his arm. He makes his way to one of the stone benches around the central fountain. His ear quirks again and he looks over at Vyvian and Kesslan at Vyvian's sounding out of the note. He looks down at the note, then up at the pair again and smirks a little. He sets a pair of books out ahead of him, one an import from Lazlo, and one or Erin Tarn's more popular.
Vyvian blinks as Tirzah brings up the the topic of a geologist, something she hadn't thought a great deal about in the near term. "Oh.. y'know, I just plain forgot 'bout that there," she admits. Though she does so with a laughing quality to her husky voice. "Been too busy with them little ones t'really get back in that there." She pauses, then glances at Kesslan. "Y'wouldn't happen t'know any geologist sorts, would ya?" For the moment the note is forgotten as that new topic fills up her distractible attention span. Which ends up with her looking towards Vargus when he's peering at the note, which gets him an odd look in return. "Somethin' wrong?" Sounding more bemused than bothered.
Vyvian's question simply nets her a shake of the head from the feline. "Do not know what geeee-owl-eg-issss-t is. Not of this word have Kesslan heard before." a slight flattening of the ears as he finds something wrong with his own statement, his blank eyes narrowing a little though it's hard to tell if it's at anyone, or even anything in particular. "Kesslan not understand many of these words special of human speak. Still learning speak." He then seems to suddenly get an idea, his ears perking up again and he speaks the word a little more slowly "Geee-ooo-looo-giiiist." and promptly gets a midly confused look "This one does not belive such word exist in language of Pantheran."
Tirzah snickers lightly at the new tangent of conversation. Deciding it would be rude not to fill in the details she starts to explain. "A geologist is a scientist who specializes on studies of rock and minerals." She explains casually as she turns back to her pile of books. "Here!" She tosses a harcover to Vyvian. "I was going to peruse that to see if it would help you but seeing as your here." The title reads 'Basic geology and gemology.'
Vargus opens his mouth to respond to Vyvian, then clicks it shut and points to the note. "...think I left that note." And smirks a little, then his head tilts to the side at Tirzah, and transfers it to Vyvian. "Aren't you sort of a geologist? Or is your stuff more instinctive?" He shifts on his bench to face the others, bracing his arms in front of him on the stone and leaning forward a little.
Vyvian looks to Kesslan with a warm expression, her hand lifting in an idle wave to brush away his concerns. "Oh, don't you worry none, honey. Ole Vyvy's been talkin' this talk for a while and she didn't know what that kinda thing was either," she assures him. When the book get tossed at her, she almost misses it, a bit distracted by the flow of the talk and extra people tugging her attention this way and that. But she spots it before it can tag her and her hand snaps out, rather quick, catching it before it can. She lifts the book up and peers at it. "Ain't sayin' it won't have no good things t'learn, but I'm thinkin' this book is too up there for the likes of me, honey. Ole Vyvy is just learnin' t'read." she notes to Tirzah. "Mebbe you can gimme the gist of it or somethin'." The book gets laid down beside her. When Vargus claims ownership of the note, she looks to it, then picks it up to show it to him. "Y'askin' bout Kess goin' t'South America then?" And an added, "I know gems and how t'dig. Just don't know the best places t'dig."
Kesslan turns his attention to Vargus as he speaks up and claims ownership of the note, the feline ears perking up again as he regards the man with his blake eyed stare. The same sort of treatment Tirzah recieved but moments ago. "Kesslan not read of human language." he explains simily "This one does not have way other than ask other to read to understand what say this. Only recent learn speak of other language, much time before think Kesslan will write of it too." a slight sort of frown then "Also not know what this 'South America' is. Kesslan wish travel to place human once call Caaaallliiiforrna. From notes take seem this is place around where Kesslan first arrive. Much travel on foot needed for spirit portals think Kesslan will not get place proper needed, for Kesslan not certain where must go yet. Must see for self in place, will know when near. So too konw places where ask of other can."
Tirzah nods, but doesn't bother to reclaim the book. "Sure, that's fine by me. May take a bit. I've been reading a lot lately. Its fascinating but really time consuming as most topic take a couple hundred pages to cover. I really wonder where people get the time to write so much." She explains, unknowingly advertising her capability in terms of literacy. "What are you reading? South America? What's that?"
Vargus nods to Kesslan and stands up from his seat, taking one of the books over to where he and Vyvian are. He opens up to a page and leans down to show it to the pair, "We're up around here..." he points to north america, around Missouri, "This is a pre-rifts map... so it's not like this anymore. But, south america is down here." and he moves his fingers down, "I've been around here..." in the north-east of the continent, "..I think." and a small smirk. "From what I've read about other things around there, that's where I ended up."
"South America's a place that's far from here," Vyvian comments, though it seems an automatic sort of response that sees no further elaboration as she clicks to having actually said it. There will be a short pause before she says to Tirzah, "Anyways, I figure goin' t'see some folks is better than readin' for me. Be faster than tryin' t'figure out the words in those books. Tied pickin' one down off the shelf an' I couldn't get much from it after spendin' an hour on it." Then Vargus brings over the map to show she and Kesslan, the lizard woman peering at it carefully. Though what she gets out of it she seems apt to keep to herself. But given the seriousness that comes into her expression briefly, there might be something.
Kesslan studies the map for a good long while, one clawed finger finally reaching out to lightly trace a line that starts to move down towards the southern US coast and then along with some northerly diversion untill reaching about half way into California. "Have many detail map of many places this. Still not fully figgure out path but Kesslan have good idea of where went by what map have landmark of. Still waiting on new printing of current map from place here in Kingsdale. Think with some work Kesslan will find what seeking." he explains with complete seriousness. "But journey is one that will much time take think I. Kesslan belives that this time with knowing better where going however faster will journey be. So too with ability to understand other of this world."
Tirzah listens to Kesslan intently suddenly very interested. "A trip west to California? When do we leave?" She chirps brightly very keen on adventure. It would be the perfect demonstration of her capabilities for Jelani's. Not to mention the sheer thrill of going somewhere new. Ignoring the strange air she edges closer to get a look at the map. "I'm bursting with excitement already." She giggles.
Vargus nods to Kesslan. "Did you plan to fly or boat down to south america, and search along the way? I can get a smallish group down there instantly... as long as I can target the right spot." he smirks a bit. "But, won't have a chance to search between here and there. He quirks and eyebrow at Tirzah and looks around, then behind and under her. "...there's bursting?"
"Don't think he wants t'go to South America," Vyvian notes, though she points at the map. "But if y'can get him close t'round here," She indicates the general region of south american and southern America, "Might be faster than goin' from one end t'the other." She gestures back towards the mid central location of Kingsdale, having gotten her bearings on the map. She looks towards Kesslan. "If y'can get to a good place near t'where you're goin', would be faster than goin' straight, yeah?" She then tosses a look toward Vargus and Tirzah.
Kesslan flattens his ears a little "Faster in part but too there are point along way where other are dead. Not all die at once in same place. This why time would take more than, but if spirit portal to places closer can opened be, then would try this yes." he admits after a few moments. "Worry is there becuase not wish wind up take spirit portal to other place not wished. Kesslan must able be to return to this place again. Must be here for return of other Pantheran even if not know when such happen might."
Tirzah turns to the man, sizing him up. "Wouldn't you like to know." She scoffs before turning back to Kesslan, furrowing her brow to figure out the speech. "Sounds like we have to travel by normal means unless you know specifically where those bodies lay. If there's one thing to say about the wilds its that you don't want to appear unexpected, or uninvited, into an unknown situation."
Vargus nods to Vyvian. "I've been sorta close to the top area. But, it's still a bit far from central america. Although, going my route it at least gets around all those vampires down there." He stands up and stretches his back a little, then to Kesslan. "Oh, there's no worry about going someplace else. I'll open the rift and check the destination. If it's not where we wanted to go, close it and try again. Might take a bit, since it takes a lot of energy to open a multi-person passage. Might only get one shot at it a day, to give me time to recharge. We'll be able to get back here, that's not a problem." He stops a moment, emitting the 'hummmm' of random thought. "I might be able to rift teleport there. I'll have to double-check the distances and see whre I've been between here and there." He looks at the book, then back at the one on the bench. "Let me go check that out..." he trails off and heads back into the library.
"Well, even if ya don't do it on the way out, doin' it on the way back wouldn't be too bad an idea," Vyvian points out. "That'd cut the thing in half at least, since ya wouldn't have t'worry 'bout comin' all the way back." Of course, by the time she figures that out, Vargus has already left. She looks after him thoughtfully before she fixes on Keslan. "Wish I could be more help, honey, but I ain't never been anywhere out there b'fore. But if you're wantin' anythin' done 'round here while you're off, you just let ole Vyvy know."
"Is truth in this yes if reliable spirit door was." Kesslan admits readily enough. "Will into this look more, but all thing take time will. Kesslan is sitll not certain all where was. When more detail map have then Kesslan belive can figgure out where was proper or closer where was. If spirit door can use to travel some then too saver think Kesslan it would be. Much dnagerous thing there were on way here."
Tirzah nods in agreement on that at least. "Subtlety will be key for sure. But I'm not so sure about that guy. I'm not the best expert on locations but he seemed to be stuck on a notion that did not entirely mesh with yours." She says, carefully considering the guy who she now assumes is a shifter. "I wouldn't trust him too far.." She trails off, many things flitting through her mind.
Vyvian shakes her head a little, looking to Tirzah. "Don't know him too well m'self. Just seen him 'bout," she offers. Then she nods to Kesslan. "You do your lookin', honey. Just don't forget Vyvy's offer. If there's folks you're expectin', Vyvy can talk to 'em and let 'em know you're off findin' your friends." Her tone meant to reassure, a hand lifted to give Kesslan's armored knee a gentle pat. "They're lookin' like you, right?"
Kesslan gives a nod to Vyvian "Do yes. Is another here, Rath'tklan. Though buisy he is with other thing at time. Matter not if Kesslan not return, only matter that if return Pantheran to Kingsdale that what all find reach them will. Have other friends who will hold on to things set asside for such a case." the feline points out as best he can in his rather poor english. "Have much to give, problem will there be however if Kesslan or Rath'tklan not around, for others not speak language of this place. Speak own language, but Kesslan find thing to with this help."
Tirzah remembers the time and looks back to her book pile. "Shoot, so many preparations to make. Reading can wait. Don't leave without me kay? You'd regret it more than you know." She explains confidently as she sets out herself. Gathering her books in a rush and scampering off.
Vyvian seems a bit bemused with what Kesslan is saying now, taking a few moments to roll the words in mind, though as she's considering she notes, "Oh, I met Rath. Odd one, that. Never takes off that armor of his." She grins broadly, seeming amused by something to do with that. "Ain't sure just what y'might need me t'do, but I'm game for most anythin'," she offers. She then looks to Tirzah as she rushes off. "In quite the hurry, that one," she muses to herself."
"Rath'tklan is.. different from other Pantheran." Kesslan admits with a certain note of hesitation on his part to say such. Though why specifically that is he definately seems to try to avoid having to elaborate uppon. "Kesslan will see of course plan more." he says finally rising once more. "Kesslan thanks Vyvian for help offered to read of note but now have work to do. May your prey be plentiful."
"Will be when the cold goes," Vyvian replies to that. A pause, then an idle question, laced with obvious curiosity. "Y'know what Rath looks like under all that armor? Ain't seen yet and Vyvy is kinda curious." She tilts her head a little, giving Kesslan a sly sort of look.
Kesslan hesitates for a few moments at that question, his body going back to it's apparently usual stifness, though this time it's something that even seems to extend to his tail. "Rath'tklan is different from other Pantheran." he says simply, repeating his earlier words. As if that some how explained everything.
Vyvian chuckles huskily and waves Kesslan off. "Don't get too tense, honey. Y'can just say y'can't tell me if that's so. Go do your things, but try relaxin' a bit. Or Vyvy's gunna come and help ya do it." a casual tease in her tone as she says as much. She seems quite amused as she shifts, languidly laying back atop her cloak. The reclining mixing easily into a brief stretch before she takes her own advice, relaxing.
"Is not place of Kesslan to say." he says softly as Vyvian dismiesses the whole thing good naturedly. THe feline apparently feeling he owes her some sort of explanation for his vagueness. "Is thing Vyvian must answer from Rath'tklan get. Is not place of Kesslan to discuss such thing." a brief nod then to Vyvian "Be well." and with that he starts to head out at a steady if otherwise unhurried pace.
"Kinda figured," Vyvian murmurs casually to herself. She turns her head a little, eyeing the childrens book she was puzzling over before. Though after giving it a few moments of thought she shakes her head and breathes out a light sigh, sending her eyes roofward again. Not for now.
